S04:E09 - Pinkie Apple Pie

I find it to be a pretty decent episode. Unfortunately, Pinkie holds it back from being great for me though. She's just too much for me when she goes all crazy. I like the idea of her being the ponies pony, wanting to make everyone happy and being all care free, I just don't like the overly 'cartoony'(that the right way to describe her?) way they use her.

 

The song was obviously fantastic though, but we knew that from the animatic.

 

Probably would have been more pleased with it if they actually stated that Pinkie was related mind you. The whole leaving it open thing gets old. Granted in my eyes they would barely be family anyway if they did.

I don't know. this episode was okay I guess but, it really made me realize how much I don't like Pinke Pie. You see, for me the problem with Pinkie Pie is that she doesn't act like a regular human being; she more acts like a alien from outer space that's just done a bunch of space cocaine.

I liked this episode but mainly cause I like friendship is magic. not really a bad episode not one I would use to introduce the series. noting really stood out to me. good moral nice little family conflict that shows in my mind the true strength of a family.

I also think it's one of the funniest of the series thus far. And, if hard-pressed to show someone a single episode to define the series, I might suggest this one. It's by no means the best, but it's emblematic of everything about the show that's fun (for me).

Just watched this episode,, pretty decent. The only problem I have is the song.... I CAN'T STOP LOVING IT. It's a great attempt at folk/country, has that old timey cartoon feel goin on, and the lyrics are possim grade. I've been stuck on a youtube tab with this song playing since I watched the episode. Is it me or is this song addicting?

Ok, poorly timed livestream ads in addition to other distractions ruined the ep for me on the first run, but upon rewatching, I loved it

 

Pinkie was awesome the whole time, right from hiding in Twilight's book case, to the Jenga scroll, and "I knew in my heart it was true" just melted my own heart The cop-out ending was annoying (especially after Flight to the Finish's cop-out ending), but that line was reason enough for me to believe the answer is yes, as well as the little hint of Goldie pulling the bottom book just like Pinkie did.

 

Applejack's wanting everyone to be on best behavior seemed a little forced, like it was just there to cause a conflict. For being the "family girl" of the show, Pinkie sure did beat her in terms of understanding what family is really about. The pep talk while waiting for Goldie was one of the best Pinkie moments we've had in a long time, showing real emotional maturity and intelligence behind the silly facade. And I love the bit at the end when she's cheerfully arguing with them

 

Big Mac was also great in this episode, at least attempting to say a lot more that "yep" or "nope". And Pinkie taking a picture of his plot makes me giggle.

 

The song was definitely the best of season 4 so far (although I like the bat song a lot too). I'd only heard it once before in animatic form, and wanted to save it until now before listening it to death Very cool to see the animatic come to life in full quality animation, and the song just gets better the more times I hear it. Top notch singing by all of them, and great lyrics/melody too.

 

One thing that amuses me in this episode is how much animal cruelty there was First there's a squirrel stuck in tree sap and Granny leaves it to die, then the fish gets eaten, then the duck gets trapped in the wheel (Trixie was right!), and then that gets snapped up too But at least didn't get eaten, since it flies by (still stuck in the wheel) shortly after.

 

The scary cave was funny. I especially like that we get to see some of the creatures that were in there at the end. Flying fish is awesome

 

And then duck face Brilliant. On top of the Twilightlicious shoutout, this has to be the most internet-hip writing crew I've ever seen. Yes it's pandering, but it's funny and not detrimental to the story so I just enjoy it.

 

And then, we get to the crazy cat lady. I'm reminded of this:

And her house looks like my basement Except with more food scraps... and cats... and decomposed cats. Although we did have 6 cats at one point, and I did find a dried rat carcass underneath the box mountain last time we did a major cleanup. I wish they would have taken some of those Apple family heirlooms home with them. Nobody understands how much cool stuff you can find in a hoard, among the junk.

 

And lastly, the Pinkie tail camera operator. Hilarious Pinkie physics, but I kind of wish Goldie had been freaked out by it since she's not used to being around Pinkie yet

 

So, despite its few shortcomings, this episode did what it was supposed to, giving lots of warm fuzzy feelings. And if they revisit the question of Pinkie's genealogy, for example asking her parents if she ever visits them, then this episode will be vindicated as almost perfect. But regardless, I think it's tied with the opener for best of season 4 so far.

I've seen in blind commentary on youtube about this episode, and so far they've shockingly reacted to Applebloom's short number when she took the map but then dropped into the water. I sort of understood what she was saying but maybe I was ignoring to what was referenced to.

 

Can somepony please clear that out for me?

I made the mistake of watching this on the train. I had people staring at me and inching away from me with the "She's CRAZY" look on their faces. It was an EPIC episode.  Five out of five Derpy faces.
