Luffyiscool 397 January 16, 2014 Share January 16, 2014 (edited) It's slightly amusing to see some people in this thread assuming that Pinkie isn't related to the Apples, or expressing annoyance at the so-called fact that she isn't. Firstly, i'd like to point out that Applejack said the book didn't matter and called Pinkie an Apple to the core. By all rights, this should mean that Pinkie is now officially an Apple. Whether it will be specifically mentioned again remains to be seen. Also, when they made this episode they tried to show us some hints that Pinkie is actually an Apple. When Goldie Delicious appeared, the parallels included:- "Helloooo yourself" / "Aaah yourself". - Eating gingerbread houses. Normally irrelevant, but Pinkie is the only pony we've seen eating one before. - Goldie took a book from the bottom of a pile, and the camera focused on the pile as it wobbled and stabilized. This quite clearly makes it a reference to when Pinkie did it with the scrolls at the beginning of the episode.Basically, Goldie shares some genes with Pinkie, and they tried to show us that through those parallels. They're saying "Pinkie is a part of the Apple Family by blood, but the characters don't know that because it helps the moral." Pixel Stick 927 January 16, 2014 Share January 16, 2014 @CosmoCosma - More to the point, they never actually prove one way or another whether there's any real relationship between Pinkie and the Apples. The smudge appears in both Twilight's scroll AND in Goldie's book. It doesn't disprove Pinkie's relationship - it simply teases us (yet again) and leaves that point unresolved. Which drives home the point about Applejack's comment even more, IMO. She says that it doesn't matter what the book says. In the light of "We don't KNOW what the book says", she says that she's perfectly willing to accept that it originally DID say "Pie", and not something else. But even if it didn't, she and her family still think of Pinkie as family, and that's what's important. Which should make one ask, does it REALLY matter if you're a blood relation? Do you have to share a common ancestry to be considered part of one's family (without being married into it)? 2 If you wanna make the world a better place, Take a look at yourself, then make a change. -- Michael Jackson
Fauna Flight 15 January 16, 2014 Share January 16, 2014 I think they made a few nods to the fandom, but it was much more obvious in other episodes that they were specifically targeting the fandom with various references, just for the sake of catering to the bronies. I'm much more inclined to think that their references and brony jokes were more subtle this time around, while keeping the episode centered on the more core message of the series. Well, now that I think about it, there are surely other episodes with brony references. I just think the episode had a great moral, plot, and was worth watching. I'd totally watch this episode again. I didn't think about the other two points, but I now agree that they are pretty good indicators.
Fauna Flight 15 January 17, 2014 Share January 17, 2014 <--- My initial reaction when I realized all of the popular memes and brony references in the episode. (Example: Applelicious and SlenderMane) I couldn't help but post this, okay? I'm just bored. Also, who doesn't need to talk about more Pinkie Pie!? She was awesome in the episode! Do you have to share a common ancestry to be considered part of one's family (without being married into it)? Exactly, which is why i loved this episode so much. They had the wonderful ending of Applejack pretty much saying "fuck the documentation, you're a part of this family no matter what", and yet the show also hinted at it being true after all. It was such a good balance of fact and belief. (I personally believe that those parallels with Goldie were thrown in there just to quell those within the fandom who would take objection against their connection without solid proof. I'm not one of those people of course, but they do exist.) Either way, Pinkie ends up being an Apple, so it's all groovy XD Edited January 17, 2014 by CosmoCosma -Youtube-Patreon-Twitter-
Shadow Raikou 3 January 17, 2014 Share January 17, 2014 This was an entertaining episode in general. I liked the fact that they were making viewers believe that eventually Pinkie won't be a part of the apple family after all. The Pinkie Randomness was not over the top, just enough to be funny. There were a LOT of off screen animal deaths in this episode. The eagle was funny, through. I was completely not expecting a crazy cat lady either. The Applelicious was funny. The Pinkie Duck face... Oh god. Also, why did Big Mack pack lifejackets on a trip that wasn't going to involve water? Is he psychic? ._. Slendermane... Oh god. It just canon-ifies most of every Slendermane story out there. Shawn Parks 1,798 January 18, 2014 Share January 18, 2014 Someone just pointed this out to me. Sorry if it has already been mentioned in this thread. Fawo 1 January 18, 2014 Share January 18, 2014 After me and my friend watched it, we were singing that song together! "We're apples to the coreeee!" We loved it. And when Pinkie said that she was a fellow Apple, I got so exited to see what would happen! I loved it! :comeatus:
roptiriolg 49 January 19, 2014 Share January 19, 2014 Haven't commented it last time, so .. This was a typical AJ episode - focusing on Pinkie but the rest was like an AJ episode. Nothing to impress me that much but it was a nice episode, not fan of this kind of episodes, but like I said it is the kind of plot we have previously seen. Sure it had some funny moments. The 'Pinky' may not be a mistake, or is it... if there had been some pies in the episode, it wouldn't have been, maybe it is a mistake afterall
Singe 2,111 January 20, 2014 Share January 20, 2014 (edited) Someone should tell Applebloom to not draw so much attention to her flank. She could send the wrong impression. She'll likely continue to have image issues for years. Edited January 20, 2014 by Singe
~Brenden~ 11 January 23, 2014 Share January 23, 2014 Time to begin my review. :3 First off, I am really surprised I like thhis episode all because I don't like ANYTHING that is family related due to personal reasons but this epsiode really got to me and made me realize a couple of things: Even though I don't really like my family, I realized, you don't actually need family members to be your family, it can be your close friends and such. ^^^^Ok, stepping away from that... I really loved Pinkie Pie in this episode because she is happy, hyper, and crazy as ever which I really like about Pinkie Pie's character. Just seeing that she could possibly be Applejacks cousin just made her blast with joy! I like the adventure that the Apple family and Pinkie Pie made to go to Applelicious house to find out if Pinkie Pie is related to the Apple family. I really like the song Apple to the Core as well. It is pretty catchy. I also like that Slenderpony cameo. Well, I didn't have to much to say about this episode, so this concludes my review. :
King Kenan 18 January 28, 2014 Share January 28, 2014 I think pinkie and applejack are related its too much coincident that both the genology and applejack aunt book to have a smudge on
Dr. Pie 9 January 31, 2014 Share January 31, 2014 I think Pinkie and AJ are related. True, it's to much of a coincidence about the smudges, but the whole "apple" and "pie" thing just works out. "Apple Pie". . . . that might be the ship name though . . . hmmmmm *twitch twitch twitch*
ggg-2 3,552 February 4, 2014 Share February 4, 2014 one thing i must say about big mac in this episode, (and if this counts as a crowning moment of heartwarming for the show someone PLEASE add it to tvtropes!) is that the thought of big macintosh, easily the calmest and most stoic member of the apple family, being so openly happy and joyous over the thought of welcoming pinkie into the family is indeed, too sweet to truly put into words 1 Don't be a nerd. Rainbow Dash 1,472 February 8, 2014 Share February 8, 2014 "Look, I'm an Apple too! Argue Argue Argue, Bicker bicker bicker!" I really loved this episode....and I know i say I love all the season 4 episodes, but this one is on my top three list. Finally we got to see Aj and her family in a whole episode! Not only that, but we also got to hear them sing....ALL OF THEM!Big Macintosh's deep voice stood out the most to me in the epic song "Apples to the core". Also, Big Mac wasn't his usual stoic self. He actually conveyed a lot of emotion(not counting his love drunk episode).I could definitely see Pinkie Pie being an apple. I mean, she did grow up on a farm. Sure it was a rock farm, but its a farm nonetheless. R.I.P. Lord Bababa and Harmonic Revelations
ggg-2 3,552 February 14, 2014 Share February 14, 2014 so.....if big mac didn't pack the raft, why the hay did he pack the life jackets? (and his floaties and adorable ducky innertube?) Don't be a nerd. Join the herd!
Shawn Parks 1,798 February 14, 2014 Share February 14, 2014 (edited) so.....if big mac didn't pack the raft, why the hay did he pack the life jackets? (and his floaties and adorable ducky innertube?) In case they decided to go swimming while they were on the trip, maybe? Applejack did imply that Big Mac was packing a bunch of stuff they probably wouldn't need. camsterman101 159 February 18, 2014 Share February 18, 2014 Well this is something i didn't see coming. Applejack and Pinkie Pie actually being related.......I can only imagine how this will effect their relationship throughout the rest of the series. And now shipping them will be totally weird....... I know how you are feeling Blu Gunderson. It is a very strange combination, the last one to come to mind even! DiamondTreasure 15 March 10, 2014 Share March 10, 2014 I LOOOVVVEEE the Apple Family song. I ended up memorizing it and singing it. My sisters said it's things like this that make them think I'm strange.
True Rarity 1,240 March 13, 2014 Share March 13, 2014 This was a very nice AJ episode. I especially loved the parts with the sibling rivalry. It took us a bit deeper into Apple family history. I also liked "Apples to the Core" and the part at the end. Favorite part: Sibling rivalries Favorite line: "I just wanted to let you know that I think you're all super-duper, and that I can't wait to make the page in my scrapbook about the huge waterfall we went down!" Pastel 7,630 March 30, 2014 Share March 30, 2014 At first I thought it was going to be really bad, because Pinkie Pie being in the Apple family sounded too random. But it was actually a very solid episode, with a great ending.
FatalRain 108 April 8, 2014 Share April 8, 2014 Ever since 'The Cutie Mark Chronicles', I've thought about the fact that Pinkie and Applejack both grew up on farms and thought it was somewhat bizarre So it didn't really surprise me much when the two were thought to be cousins...of course, we'll never know for sure now!
Dark Diamond 21 April 10, 2014 Share April 10, 2014 (edited) I loved this episode! It was nice to see the whole Apple family together, and Big McIntosh was funny. The ending was a bit rushed, but I liked how the writers kept it open, and we can decide ourselves whether Pinkie Pie is related to Applejack. I think she is. They can both be crazy at times. Edited April 10, 2014 by Rainbow Epic Power Life is way to short, so make the most of it!
