Does anyone think Giygas is disturbing?

OK, So i have never played Earthbound. But, I think Giygas is probably the scariest thing ever created in a video game. His soundtrack is disturbing and pleasant at the same time. Do you remember Giygas? And do you recount your experiences? I Love Giygas because he is one of my favourite characters in a game. And also, do you compare Giygas to Discord?

Never played the game, but I know of Giygas. Got to admit thats one surprise of a boss considering how the rest of the game looks like.

 

It would be like a cannon episode of MLP ending right at the very end with a pony dying in a bloody gory way. You'd just be stunned with a "WTF is that" look on your face.

I've never played Earthbound and even though I've heard the horror stories about it and why it exists I still don't really think there's much to it. Maybe it was shocking to people when it first came out but it just doesn't seem like something that would bother me whether I knew the truth about it or not.

Not exactly disturbing but it was surprising. Didn't expect to run into anything like Giygas. Now I find Giygas more funny than anything; "You cannot grasp the true form of Giygas' attack" is such a classic line and a little exploitable too.

Has anyone read any of the old theories on Giygas? Supposedly the games creator Shigesato Itoi came up with Giygas after witnessing what he thought was a rape scene in a movie he walked into by accident when he was young, many ideas have circulated around the internet about what Giygas is and what he means but one of the most famous is the 'ol "fetus theory". This image is one that I've always found intriguing and really calls into question the nature of your final actions in the game:

As someone who has played Earthbound and the other games in the Mother series (what it is called in Japan) Giygas is far from being the only WTF moment in that game or the series. There is this one other boss you fight named Master Belch for example, and there are random enemies that range from hippies, drifters,  crooked cops, buses, cars and even street signs come to life. The only thing that even begins to compare to Giygas in terms of WTF is the ending of Mother 3 although it is not nearly as disturbing as Giygas though even if it is pretty sad.

While I have never played the earthbound series, I have heard a lot about this scary monstrosity.

He is also the final boss of Mother 1 (Earthbound is Mother 2) and once I played Mother 1 my opinion of him changed dramatically. His backstory is a lot more tragic than scary, his name was originally going to be translated as Giegue in the unreleased English translation of Mother 1 (the same one that was leaked on the internet and called Eathbound Zero years later) which is why he is called Giegue in instead of Giygas in this video.

Ahh, the infamous fetus theory. Never liked that theory, never believed it either. The whole looking like a fetus, I believe, is purely coincidence -- never really noticed until someone pointed it out; I just saw a bunch of distorted faces.

As for Giygas...That red swirl onscreen is not too disturbing. The concept underlying the character is very horrifying though. A being who grew so much in power that it destroyed his own body and mind, leaving nothing but a raving eldritch chaos behind.

Giygas and the world around him is supposed to represent childhood innocence, the world is innocence itself in that it is cute, funny, and quirky. Giygas is, in a sense, the loss of childhood innocence in that he's huge, sudden, and scary. I thought he honestly was a demon because you can only defeat him by praying. I would compare Giygas to Sombra more than Discord though. His music, besides sounding somewhat like a theme for the Changelings, was inspired by the NASA Voyager recordings.

Okay. So. This is straight from the creators mouth.

 

The creator thought of this when he accidentally snuck into a movie theater and stumbled upon a movie where a pregnant woman was beaten by soldiers until she had an abortion.

 

This scarred him for life.

 

When creating this lovable quirky series, he heeded to create the face of true evil and horror, so called upon that horror he witnessed when he was little and created Giygas.

 

Yeah, it's creepy.

But I think the fight against Claus is creepier.

His boss theme is a bit creepy and Giygas himself is a little creepy, but he's far from the creepiest video game enemy I have encountered (or seen for that matter).
