Homura Akemi 974 January 28, 2014 Share January 28, 2014 (edited) It has been an awful long time since I last started a topic on the forums. This literally just popped into my mind. Would you ever consider joining your nation's armed forces? Why or why not? If you are already or have served in the military, what is/was your service and why did you join? I do not plan on joining the United States Military. Edited March 13, 2014 by Dismajo
Gone Airbourne 21,977 January 28, 2014 Share January 28, 2014 I would and I even talked to a recruiter in the Air National Guard. I really wanted to do that for my life but sadly I have way to many food allergies so that is a no go for anyone with a certain amount which is understandable. Deesinn 393 January 28, 2014 Share January 28, 2014 Not at all, I think the military is a huge waste of time. Cool cool, you want to serve your country or whatever, but I don't like the idea of throwing a bunch of my time away to do so. They don't screw around in the military, they're strict and in my opinion that's not a very fun place to be in.
Kyoshi Frost Wolf 41,732 January 28, 2014 Share January 28, 2014 No. Never. Even if I did want to, I have Aspergers Syndrome (Disqualifies me), Hydrocephalous (Disqualifies me), anxiety disorder (Disqualifies me), and other problems. Plus, on top of that, I really see no point. I don't exactly feel like 'fighting' for a country controlled by a corrupt government, that is populated by a mass army of robots, reality TV, celebrity worship, and religious nut jobs. Doesn't sound worth it to me, that is why I feel bad for those in the military currently.
Clarity 3,094 January 28, 2014 Share January 28, 2014 (edited) Nope. I'm too fat for the job. And I have feet, so that disqualifies me. Honestly, though, I wouldn't. It's not appealing for me to die for a country I'm not too devoted to, anyway. Edited January 28, 2014 by Clarity
SparklingSquirrels 21,355 January 28, 2014 Share January 28, 2014 Nope, I wouldn't. I'm really nowhere near disciplined enough, and the military is really strict. Besides, I just don't feel like I would be the right person for the job. Despite being an American, I honestly think the US has more problems than positive things about it. I wouldn't want to fight for a country like that, and I don't feel that just because I was born here in the states that I should have lots of pride in my country. Still, I do support women in the military, since I support equality in general; and also the fact that I'm female myself. If I had to join one branch though, I'd probably go with the Coast Guard. 1 ֍֎֍֎

GrimCW 658 January 28, 2014 Share January 28, 2014 (edited) Done served, gotten my benefits, and sadly out on disability (paid for life... but I'd rather my job back). After boot camp its actually not that bad at all fyi. Its a steady job, cheap/free room and board (in barracks its free, if you get a house/apartment they'll pay half depending on rank), and plenty of decent benefits (full medical/dental coverage, educational benefits, most bases have a garage you can use for self vehicle repairs, and plenty of activities to be part of. Tax free shopping at the on base exchange/commisary stores and lots more.). The pay is so/so on the enlisted side, but given the freebies it beats working a "normal" job. The only down side is during a deployment, and the constant moving around can be hard. But its hardly a bad place. And you get paid to travel and see the world/country. As opposed to paying exorbitant prices to do it. They also usually setup tours and such for different places if over seas, and though you pay into it, most of the time you get refunded for it later USO FTW. FYI also, aspergers and such only disqualifies you if your insane enough to tell them you have it, or your nutty enough to be allowing others to pill you up on worthless drugs just to control your actions rather than allow you to be you. I have aspergers and was diagnosed when I was 16, I still signed up and shipped when I turned 18. I served just fine, got my good conduct medal, Battle "E", and several letters of commendation. I'd have a NAMP (Navy and Marine corps achievment award) but I was the FNG when shit hit the fan for the first time, and despite I had to write the report, my participation was excluded since it would've made 2 First class PO's and an Airmen look like idiots to the new guy That airmen felt terrible about it though and when asked about her medal she simply answered "I didn't deserve it" What you don't tell them, they won't find out. Assuming its not gonna show up in your drug screen, any other info won't turn up jack unless your recruiter is trying to keep you out (and they won't). In short.. yes. If given the chance to do it again (or go back) also I'd still answer yes. Edited January 28, 2014 by GrimCW
joecal97 340 January 28, 2014 Share January 28, 2014 I would join Britain's armed forces if this country was ever under threat of invasion, this is our land, and I'll fight for it! But honestly,i have no intentions of joining the armed forces otherwise, we have plenty of well trained service men already (gentlemen, I salute you!) ChoroChii 284 January 28, 2014 Share January 28, 2014 No, that'd be way too much pressure and I'd fail anyways. I also have Autism and take meds for it, so they'd probably figure that out and not let me in.

Fluttershyfan94 5,742 January 28, 2014 Share January 28, 2014 There is no army in my country, even so I'm not sure if I'm qualified. But if I would, I think I would join the Air Force or drive a tank, maybe the navi or submarine. Galen 1,354 January 28, 2014 Share January 28, 2014 Probably not, mainly because I don't believe society ought to create walls between each other to strengthen the illusion of separation and thus the need for warfare. As things are now, I would only join if the military wasn't used by a corrupt govt and was instead used for the purpose of self-defense, as is the case for the JSDF. On the whole, however, I don't see a reason why people should tie themselves down to a place they didn't even choose to be born in.
King 5,625 January 28, 2014 Share January 28, 2014 Im in the Australian Army atm, though Im leaving to pursue a career in game design. (Take a 2 year course soon :3 )I decided to join because it's a career that sets you up for life really...good money, great benefits, discipline and skills depending on what corp. Not to mention the friends you make. Though the training IS demanding, so its not for the faint of heart. 2 Goddamn right, you should be scared of me Twitter
SwigglySwiggly 358 January 28, 2014 Share January 28, 2014 I would if I could (not because of patriotism, pride or any other nonsense). I'd join the army because the pay is good and I'm relatively fit, one thing that's a problem here, even though the army wont admit it, they cherry pick the new recruits by their ethnic background. BUT I don't like my Government, where can I sign up to the Mercs? 1 Click on the links!: Here! & Here! Check out my drawings! ^^^

NomDeSpite 452 January 28, 2014 Share January 28, 2014 (edited) In its current state, absolutely not. I am not a pacifist or a globalist; I would fight for my country if the cause was good. But the U.S. Armed Forces are not being used for good causes and they haven't since probably 1812. Pretty much everything the U.S. Armed Forces does falls far short of the Just War criteria laid down by Saint Augustine more than 1500 years ago. Most of what we do is for Israel's benefit, not our own. Anyone interested in joining the military should read "War Is A Racket" by General Smedley Butler. It's written from an American's POV but it applies to all countries. Most people already instinctively understand its thesis but he speaks from shocking firsthand experience. Actually, I take that statement back. All people living on Earth should read this book. It should be one of those things that "everyone owns", just like a computer. Here's a link to the text: stop whatever you're currently doing and read it. It could save alot of lives. ( http://www.ratical.org/ratville/CAH/warisaracket.html ) While I hope that "the troops" come home safely, I don't support what they're doing. I also don't think military service makes a person inherently more respectable. HeroSparks 232 January 28, 2014 Share January 28, 2014 Not for me. I think that I would easily do extremely well just because of how I am/think, I just really don't handle structure too well. I'd be fine in the field but the problem would be getting to that point with all the training and order and stuff. I'm better off doing something else with myself and leaving it to those that can go through training When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree next to the river of truth, and tell the whole world"No, you move." Seaweed 596 January 28, 2014 Share January 28, 2014 No way, the military is for chumps and losers. I have no respect for them at all. Especially those snipers, just a unch of pussies with fancy guns. That's all they are! Oh...wait a minute. 5 MLPforums resident marksman. Mathlete/Badass MC
MyLilPony 39 January 28, 2014 Share January 28, 2014 I often want to, But It's out of a hatred for mankind and death wish that stems from the criticism of who I am which likely wouldn't be a good reason. I'm a handy gunsmith, mechanic, electronics specialist, carpenter, programmer and trained in various jiujitsu and police fighting styles. I've been in hundreds upon hundreds of hand to hand combat situations with civilians, police and military personnel and only lost to a Vietnam vet who is kinda like my dad and a few times when like 10 or more cops got on me. But sometimes it hurts me to smash a cock roach and I've found myself crying just over the fact that we all have to face natural death. Also I have an alter ego named jade that becomes a little girl to escape the hostile and violent side of myself and just wants to brush her pony dolls hair, play with makeup and take pictures that is becoming more and more my main ego by the day. So I guess it's probably not for me, Although I do think about joining every day...

Envy 6,192 January 28, 2014 Share January 28, 2014 No, because, to be honest, I don't want anything to do with the military.
