Boy Bullied for Being a Brony Attempts to Take Own Life

A friend linked me to this earlier, and it actually brought me to tears. I love kids and it breaks my heart that an 11-year-old would suffer so much over so little.

I also don't understand apathetic attitudes towards bullying or the belief that children should just shrug it off. If they're too young to drive, get married, work, drink, vote, or own property, why aren't they too young to be expected to withstand regular physical and psychological torment? Those things are all too much for them because they're children, but they should be expected to handle being shoved, punched, spit at, stalked, mocked, put down, ganged up on, shut out, gossiped about, and more without batting an eye?

Because is easier to have one less responsibility and blame the kids for being kids. Hell, that's why I lost respect for most adults, and I blame them more than the bullies themselves, THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE WITH THE CHILDREN, NOT LET THEM BE ON THEIR OWN

I suppose it is easier to have one's own personal fairytale land where there's nothing to worry or get upset about when the victims are always their own problem.

I don't believe it's solely the parents' responsibility, though they're also accountable for their child not being a menace to other people or other people's property. When something wrong is happening, everyone who knows should say something - especially when the problem isn't going to fix itself (see: parents who don't know or don't care that their child is bullying). Silence might as well be support in some cases.

I'm especially disappointed when it's the teachers who don't care, but I've known for a long time that there are teachers who only took the position to pay the bills and don't like kids.

sadly, with the parents, it's not always the case, in many times they do know, but they turn a blind eye, and I speak about both the victims's, and the bullies's. But there's something undeniable, school personel are of the worst in those cases, I'm tire of reading and hearing of those cases where they neglect the children. First off, yes I do think the bullies should be punished for doing this.  I don't know what school it was that this happened at, but they should at least get some sort of consequence, within the boundaries of the rules (such as a suspension, expulsion, or other appropriate discipline).  However, I will not condone violence against kids, no matter what stupid things they did.

If it seems like I'm being a little soft on them, it's because of the fact that yes they did this.  And I'm not condoning it or making excuses for their actions.  It is horrible that this happened, no matter how you look at it, and I do believe there should be consequences.

But at the same time, they're kids and they're going to act stupid.  Most kids that are bullies grow out of it at some point.  But when you're 11 or 12, you're immature and you're going to do dumb things.  I know this from personal experience, meaning I had students that bullied me at school when I was younger, and now I'm pretty good friends with them as an adult, and we even hang out and play video games every once in awhile.

However, as soft as I am on the kids that bullied him, I will not be so nice with the adults who ARE old enough to know to step in.  The teachers that were around when this happened should all be fired, no exceptions.  Plain and simple.  You can't really charge them with anything, because they didn't directly do anything illegal, but they should definitely be canned and replaced with teachers and officials that ARE willing to do their job and step in when things like this happen (or at the very least, report it to authorities so that they can do something about it).

Kids these days are so spineless. And parents have no clue.  Have they no dignity? Have they no pride?  Stand the hell up and fight for yourselves. Violence may not be the answer, but it's better than no answer. Just like my dad always said "You don't have the right to throw the first punch but you do have my permission to throw the last." I got bullied in school and I got those f##kers dealt with. I wasn't afraid to speak up. And I think the teachers knew that if they didn't do something, I was going to. Has the entire world forgotten about the phrase "Sticks and stones may break your bones, but names can never hurt you"?

Sorry, but this just hits a nerve. You'd think that defending yourself would be the natural response. It's just mind boggling that it isn't.

I also just read an article about what went down, who Micheal Morones really was, and what, not only us Bronies, but members of other communities and fandoms are doing to help.

Fro example Teevillian.com is selling a custom MLP shirt

Already ordered mine. I get a cool shirt. The Morones family gets my support.

But I think this photo here really drove the point across to me.

Justin Bieber just tweeted his support for the kid.

Not a fan of his. But it would be a good thing if some of his millions of followers donated...

*Eats popcorn* Eh? Oh just, roasting corn over the barely constrained flame war.

Seriously, it seems some people are focusing more on how to beat up the bullies(A heinous idea, teaching kids like that makes them hate you, not fear you. Read Machiavelli)

On topic, oh yes, another kid got bullied to the point where he almost killed himself. Honestly, there should be a thread specifically for "Suicides and talking about them" at the rate we eat through these.  >_>

This has been milked for 16 pages, all of them going either "That is horrible", "Beat up the bullies", or(the funniest) "I hate humans, rah!"

Honestly, I'm just amazed that a community like the bronies came relatively together like that, and for the most part have nothing but support for one of their youngest members of their community.

@,

Oh, no doubt it's impressive. The only problem is that I doubt this thread would even have 5 pages if it was just some random kid bullied for liking Pokemon

Well ya, he was a brony, and this is a MLP website. It's bronies supporting bronies, which given the social status of most bronies is amazing how they come together. But again, human nature is to care for those like you, so bronies are going to support other mlp fans.

@,

I know, just the hypocrisy stuns me. I'm referring to those going around, preaching about how talking does nothing...when they're doing the exact same thing. I'm not sure who annoys me more, the psychos who want to go around beating up kids, or the hyprocrites.

Oh well, ces't la vie

@@Denim&Venom,

Yes, tell the kid to fight back against a group of people who are probably bigger than him. He'd get his ass handed to him and would be in the hospital for a different reason. Even assuming he somehow won, things would get worse after that once they told on him. So yeah, fighting back with physical violence is him sticking a red sign saying "I'm a jackass with a brain the size of a walnut"

Every group of people on earth is hypocritical, being stunned by it is akin to being stunned by the fact that humans are inherently violent. The support for him came because of his choice in shows, via web sites dedicated to said show, and from people obsessed with said show.

@,

Oh god, tell me, if humans are so naturally violent, why aren't pre-schoolers beating the crap out of each other? Maybe humans are social animals and violence is frowned upon because in nature, that'd be retarded?

As for hypocrisy, no, not everyone is hypocritical. I know for a fact that people who choose not to interfere can't by hypocritical

Pre-schoolers do get in violent fights. And violent tv shows are the most watched and highest rated. Violence is inherent to our universe. Violence is only frowned upon when it breaks social order. When it violates the order set about by society. And yes, every group of people ever in human existence can be found to be hypocritical.

Really? Tell me of this sudden rash of pre-schoolers trying to kill each other  -_- It might happen ocasionally, but it doesn't happen most of the time.

For violent TV shows, what does it matter? You sound like that one politician who was convinced that playing video games made you a psychopath. What we watch matters little because it is fantasy.

Why would there be a social order opposing violence if it was really so natural?

Because social order the way we create it, is itself not natural. Thus natural tendencies are frowned upon an un-natural agreement of animals. Your argument relies heavily on a perceived lack of life experience, and your conjuncture to jump from inherent violence such as fighting, to toddlers trying to murder on another again proves this perception of your lack of life experience.

.....I'm still waiting. You claimed

Pre-schoolers do get in violent fights

You have not given any evidence to support this. If you condemn me for jumping to conclusions, condemn yourself for doing the exact same thing
