Brony Title (What Makes Someone a Brony?)

Cyan Blue

Recommended Posts

Now we are all bronies here, but how do you earn the title of brony? By liking the show right?

Ok, so pretty much everyone who goes to school with me knows i'm a pony lover. So my friend goes up to me and he says "Hey, I think i'm a brony now". "You watched the show?" I asked. He says "I watched half of and episode and a pewdiepie video, does that make me a brony? I don't want to be one, their weird!" ( He didn't like the show)

He says. I just laughed and walked away.

What do you think makes someone a brony?

1. If you start watching episode after episode until you've watched a whole season

2. When you start coming up with ideas for pony fanfics

3. When you start drawing a bunch of pictures of ponies

4. All of the above

You are a Brony when you call yourself one.

Many people watch the show, many people like the fandom and listen to music made from Bronys.

But even well known people in the fan community don't call themselves "Brony".

You are a Brony when you decide to call yourself a Brony.

A "Brony" is a fan of the show who decides for themselves that they both are enough of a fan to be one, and that they WANT to be called one.

So, your friend doesn't have to be a "Brony" just because he has enjoyed the show. This forcing of the label on anybody and everybody who enjoys the show is wrong. I am not a Brony, I never have been one, and I never will be one.

Something I forgot to add, is that he disliked the show.

I've been a big fan ever since August 2011, but I don't call myself a brony as it's merely just a title, just as there are Star Trek fans who don't call themselves "Trekies" or whatever it is. True, it didn't start out that way and I used the title "brony" early on but as my family came to know about my fandom and was cool with it, they never once to this day called me a "brony", they just know I'm a fan, that's when I willingly decided to just ditch the "label" because I realized it wasn't a requirement at all, it's just an optional title available. Just being "Iron Shield" is good enough for me.

Let's see, there are "fans", and then there are "bronies" or "pegasisters". The "fans" are the people who like the show but actually do something else with their time than sitting around on these forums and talking about all the latest pony news. The "bronies/pegasisters" are the people who have seen the show, like it, and look forward to the next seasons/episodes, possibly seeking spoilers, deleted scenes, and coming up with theories as to how the next episodes are going to be.

So, a brony is, as my brother just said, a "hardcore" pony fan.

I am a pegasister.

It's a title you can take if you want it, man. I'm not a brony, but I love the show. I feel that if you're comfortable in taking the brony title, you're comfortable to going one of those creepy bronycons or what ever.

Why ya gotta use words like, "creepy," and negatively generalize and entire group of people you've never met?

See, now you look silly.

I have met them. That's why I think they're creepy. I wouldn't give a opinion on something I don't know.

I wish I could go, there is only one main reason I couldn't go.

I personally believe that "Brony" is a title that you adopts yourself. I have a friend who likes MLP, but doesn't consider himself a brony. I like to consider myself one, because I want to be a part of one of the best fandoms ever to grace this earth.

I would say that a brony/pegasister would have to be one or more of these-

1. Be a fan of the fan of the show and look forward to the next episode

2. Start wondering about who would make a good pairing (I secretly pair Cheese Sandwich and Pinkie Pie)

3. Start reading fanfics/love stories about the show (The first one I read was a love story with Discord and Fluttershy)

4. Fantasize about what living there would be like

5. Start drawing pictures of your favourite characters

There is probably more that could define a brony but a fan decides if they are a brony or not. I am a pegasister and I am 1,2,3 and 4.

You can only decide if you are a brony. Even if you just have watched 5 episodes and like it, can NO ONE just come and say "You are not a brony because you only watched 5 episodes" or something. You decide. The most important thing is that you love the show. Because if you hate it and watch it, are you not a brony.

Wow, this topic sure has popped up more than a few times in the past couple days.

See topic here (http://mlpforums.com/topic/87073-if-i-barely-watch-the-show-does-that-still-make-me-a-brony/) for a nice debate about this very topic.

In short, my opinion I made in that topic is that you are only a brony if you say your are one. I'm very clearly a fan of the show, many of the fan creations from art to music and videos, have merchandise, and am fairly active around here, but I am not and never will be a brony because it's just a needless title that is nothing more than another way to say "fan of FIM". No matter what fandom I'm in, I'm just a fan. Not a trekkie, whovian, brown coat, furry, brony, or whatever else.

Brony is just a title. I know a lot of people that watch MLP but don't' call themselves bronies. But again, that's all they do is watch the show on occasion. They  don't go on forums or interact with the fandom or any sort.

I call myself a brony because I enjoy much more of MLP than just the show itself....I enjoy original fan made music, art, fan-fics, games, and forums.

  • If you enjoy the show
  • If you interact with the fandom on some level
  • If you consider yourself one

I personally feel that gender or age has absolutely NOTHING to do with whether someone is a brony or not.

That's right, i'm saying a person who would be considered "within the target demographic" (aka a little girl) could still be considered a brony if they do interact with the fandom and consider themselves one.
