Pinkamena-Pills 6,839 August 29, 2014 Share August 29, 2014 (edited) We all have momentary lapses in judgement and speak on impulse regardless of if it is something we should know better not to do -- this was one of those moments. Also perhaps let me present this: Sometimes anyone can be asshole, regardless of if that was their intention or not, even Pinkie Pie. silvadel 1,393 August 29, 2014 Share August 29, 2014 Pinkie Pie was doing a full-on desensitization of Fluttershy during the whole episode on-purpose. She completely set up Big Mac to lose his voice so Fluttershy would be forced into taking his place in the Ponytones. 2 Silvadel, the Pegasus of Insight. Zekromic 1,054 August 29, 2014 Share August 29, 2014 Why can I only Brohoof your post once? This is what I've been saying too! It's not that Pinkie was being a jerk, she didn't know she was hurting Fluttershy's feelings. And in all honesty, Filli Vanilli made me like Pinkie more. Problem is, you can't change the minds of the majority, just let them be and laugh at their ignorance, just like I do with the hate towards the Waifu Thief
Abia 258 August 29, 2014 Share August 29, 2014 Not to mention, this isn't the first time Pinkie Pie acted like a jerk if what I found in my review for 'Griffon the Brush Off' can be used. Also, I was more upset at how she caused Big Mac to lose his voice then her behavior towards Fluttershy anyway. If this isn’t the first time, why are people making such a big deal of this incident and not of others? I don’t think we can blame anyone but Big Mac for losing his voice. He knew that he had a concert the next day— that he was a huge part of it as the baritone voice— and he had been explicitly told to rest his voice. The Apples were the ones organizing the turkey call contest. If he’d asked, surely AJ and Granny would have been able to reschedule the date. It was unkind of Pinkie to flaunt her victory, but it was by no means her fault that he lost his voice. I think Pinkie is different than her friends. I also think she may not have initially realized the harm she was doing, but she's not an idiot and would've been able to realize that she was taking it a bit too far - especially because her friends told her to stop that nonsense and she didn't. Even if she didn't realize it, she's not deaf and was told multiple times to quit. When was she told to quit? “Don’t be ridiculous” isn’t exactly a scolding. Watch this again. The mane six didn’t object to Pinkie Pie’s… encouragement until after she was done talking. As soon as it was made clear to Pinkie that she had hurt Fluttershy’s feelings, she immediately rushed off to fix it, tell Fluttershy that she was great— and nothing else. Hell, the only time Pinkie was actually aware that she was saying anything bad was when she told Fluttershy “you kind of sounded like a dude”. in "Pinkie Pride" she felt really guilty and stopped the Goof-Off because it was making Rainbow Dash, her friend, a bit upset and she wasn't having a good time. At this time, Pinkie was in her element. The Goof-Off was there to determine which pony could make Rainbow Dash have the most fun, so it’s only natural that Pinkie would pay attention to Rainbow’s reaction.

Honestly the more and more I'm reading from this topic, the more I'm thinking that Pinkie Pie's behavior in the 'Filli Vanilli' wasn't so bad after all. Especially since the episode actively punished Pinkie Pie for it, something 'Griffon the Brush Off' never did for a more subtle but similar behavior from her.
paradoxical 1,735 August 29, 2014 Share August 29, 2014 Take the tone of interrogation away from the message: That was totally unbelievable! I mean, the curtain came up and there you were, singing in front of everypony! (I think that you're afraid of people being jealous) And you know, I don't think anypony was jealous, 'cause there certainly wasn't an angry mob! (Oh no I just got off topic!) But it must have been horrible standing there on stage, all eyes glued directly on you! It's like you were living your own personal worst nightmare (and I understand that it was tough)! Now add pinkie back into the statement and it's funny. But in a slapstick/train-wreck kinda way.
Fractured 2,684 August 29, 2014 Share August 29, 2014 Really, I'd be irritated with this behavior regardless of whether she made Fluttershy cry or not. Hell, I don't even like it when people get all angry because something made Fluttershy cry because she's uber sensitive She's not immune to crying and it probably isn't a difficult thing to do, but regardless, that doesn't really excuse the characterization here, in my opinion. If it were just for a little bit, it would've been excusable. But it wasn't - she kept pressing and pressing and pressing after making her friend cry and being asked to stop *multiple* times, I was honestly confused at it That wasn't anything like her, at least, from what I've seen. Hell, just two episodes back in "Pinkie Pride" she felt really guilty and stopped the Goof-Off because it was making Rainbow Dash, her friend, a bit upset and she wasn't having a good time. RD wasn't even that hurt in Pinkie Pride, it was just stressing her out. Fluttershy was running away and breaking into tears and Pinkie kept going after she had made Fluttershy cry and after she had been told to stop by other ponies numerous times. It has nothing to do with the fact she made Fluttershy cry in of itself - it had to do with the fact she's been displayed to know when to stop these things and she kept on doing it anyway, and it's even worse because others *told* her to quit and she didn't, which made it seem delibarate to me - that's what bothered me about this. The situation would be as black and white as this. In a way, I really want it to be. The problem is that Pinkie Pie truly believes that was she was trying to help. Was it malicious? Undoubtedly. Was it out of malicious intent? No. Thinking about it only leaves me confused. Produced by the phenomenal J.R. Cwanky 17,579 August 29, 2014 Share August 29, 2014 I think this misses the point a bit. Its not just simply the matter that Pinkie was being insensitive or whether she was malicious. In fact this type of trouble making, obnoxious, and insensitive behavior of Pinkie has been around since season 1, with Bridle Gossip, A Friend in Deed, and MMMystery on the Friendship Express, being notable and repeated examples. I would go as far as to say that inadvertently her bad behavior has become so prevalent, that its a part of her character now, much like Rainbow's massive ego and Rarity's vanity. So if anything, Pinkie's behavior in Filli Vanilli might be considered a norm now as opposed to out of character. The problem is not that Pinkie was being bad, and certainly not that she made "Fluttershy cry." She sabotaged Big Mac too. The problem here is that she doesn't seem to be aware of why and what she did was wrong, and considering all those lessons she should have learned in the past, she should have learned not to repeat similar behavior now or at least be more aware of her flaws when she hurts others.

I notice that although you state direct problems on both Rainbow Dash and Rarity's part(rather unfounded, but direct nonetheless), with Pinkie you just cite general behavior. lelouch. 625 August 29, 2014 Share August 29, 2014 At that time I thought it was a laugh, but now that I think about it, pinkie was being a bit of an asshole. But regardless, the mane 6 would never be complete as a mane 5 without her. And think of all the good she's done almost everyone of the mane 6 gets an episode or two inwhich their a total jerk. But death threats over something like this is ridiculous.
Shanks 10,816 August 29, 2014 Share August 29, 2014 Honestly, Pinkie's more than just a smiling doofus who wants to party all the time; she's actually quite the enigma, as evidenced numerous times throughout the series. Yes, that is true which is why the characterizations of Pinkie Pie in some episodes aggravates me and Frilli Vanilli is a very good example of what I am talking about. It is a bit much to call Pinkie Pie a bitch for just a scene or two in a few episodes but there has been a pattern since season 3 (and I say this as someone who has said on multiple occasions that season 3 is the most underrated season) of Pinkie Pie's being dumbed down to make her seem like just a smiling doofus that wants to party all the time. Season 4 was a huge improvement of season 3 in this respect with Pinkie Pie getting some of the best episodes of the season though there are a couple of examples mid and late season of her sort of going backwards. She displays something of a difficulty in understanding others' intentions and emotional states, even to the point of misinterpreting them outright. Also true but there seemed to be no acknowledgement that Pinkie Pie screwed up in the episode at all either by her or any of the mane 6. I can relate big time to misinterpreting intentions and social cues but after Fluttershy cried it should have been obvious even to her. In fairness though it is very easy to make Fluttershy cry. 4 Rarity Get's Cockroaches
Jeric 46,851 August 29, 2014 Share August 29, 2014 Man, I woke up today in a bad mood ... I snapped at my dog and was grumpy. I'm never grumpy. Guess people should hate me now for that OOC moment. There is a such thing as applying the words 'on occasion' to people. Pinkie on occasion has no filter (in character). Pinkie on occasion is sensitive to her friends needs and feelings (in character). When she goes one way and not the other ... It's in character for her. It's called complexity. Since when does an all or nothing approach make for a better more interesting character. Pinkie was just fine in this episode people. Let Pinkie be Pinkie ... Because she was still Pinkie in that episode.Depth in that there Pone!

Kuyon 43 August 29, 2014 Share August 29, 2014 Sometimes I hate this fandom Stuff like this is not exclusive to this fandom. Every community and fandom has the nut jobs and over reactors. As for the episode. I agree with the OP. She wasn't doing to hateful or mean. I believe she just got carried away and started blabbing not fully realizing what she was saying. Honestly though everything she said was true I believe she did just make a lapse in judgement and forgot who she was talking to and got over dramatic. I think she was still in character for the episode though it wasn't her proudest moment. 2 Always looking for RPs and partners. Feel free to approach me to chat or set up RPs. paradoxical 1,735 August 29, 2014 Share August 29, 2014 What about what she said (not how she said it) was mean? Try saying the actual lines in a soothing tone (like a mom to an injured child) and tell me what was so unreasonable? On the other hand, try saying, You did great, and I'm glad you are able to do something to overcome your fears -- like pinkie did (attitude [not words])
Kawaii Besu 28,011 August 29, 2014 Share August 29, 2014 While I kinda feel bad about Flutters in that episodes, I do see that this fandom's gone OA on how Pinkie was portrayed in that episode.I mean, seriously, death threats to the writers who worked hard trying to make a quality episode? Seriously, bronies, especially Fluttershy fans, are probably getting more violent and OA than the anti-bronies themselves! Something similar happened to 'Griffon the Brush Off', where a very well-written episode was disliked by a lot, simply due to Fluttershy fans acting OA over Gilda and her violent encounter with Fluttershy. I, too myself, also felt bad about Fluttershy, but that's the point of the episode, and if something different than Gilda's encounter with Flutters happened, the overall climax would have been weaker. Pinkie's just probably getting her sugar rush during that time, and probably too excited to hear Fluttershy sing, so the scene kinda made sense. I know making Fluttershy cry is an automatic reclusion perpetua, but seriously, stuff likes this also happen in RL. Yep, even the most sensitive of your friends will get that treatment from even her own best friends. It's life, you know... :ahihihi: 4 Count to numbers with 7 digits! And remember how angry she was at how gilda treated fluttershy? Get a grip on yourselves people!! Pinkie was just really insensitive. Singe 2,111 August 31, 2014 Share August 31, 2014 (edited) It's no surprise that Pinkie Pie most of the time will be oblivious of the sensitivities of others. Also, it's no surprise that Pinkie Pie will forget the minor things like Fluttershy being sensitive. Finally, it's no surprise that Pinkie Pie half the time will not notice that she's crossed the line. What Pinkie Pie put Fluttershy through is lighter than what she did to Cranky Doodle Donkey. Nulln 755 August 31, 2014 Share August 31, 2014 Whether she was trying to be mean or not, she was really really mean. Fluttershy was crying halfway through her rambling with pinkie staring right at her, and she still kept going. and she did it TWICE. If she pays any attention at all to her friends, she'd know that what she was saying was the very thing that Fluttershy fears the most.
Ziggy + Angel + Rain 11,302 August 31, 2014 Share August 31, 2014 I find it very hard, in general, to hold much of anything against the Mane Six. They're the most developed, strongest, and most important characters in the show. Not one of them is without notable virtues or entirely free of faults / weaknesses. So I don't really feel Pinkie even needs to be defended; she didn't do any lasting harm to anypony, that I can ascertain. Sure, I can empathize; particularly concerning Flutters fans. I can understand why some people would have been bothered or outright upset. But I don't understand much less advocate condemning a colorful, animated pony for a few lines of dialogue in a single episode. A pony whose primary pursuit is making other ponies happy, anyhow. I don't hold "Lesson Zero" against Twi, I don't hold "Putting Your Hoof Down" against Flutters, I don't hold "Filli Vanilli" against Pinks, etc. So, I reiterate: I won't defend Pinkie. Because she need not even be defended. Ppl say things that can be interpreted as insensitive - unintentionally or otherwise, people make mistakes... Why should well-developed, increasingly fleshed-out ponywomen characters be any different? If you condemn Pinkie you might as well condemn the entire cast, because not one of them is perfect. Or, rather, it's their imperfections that bring them closer to perfection, character-wise; because it makes them more believable and relatable. 4 "It uses the faculty of what you call imagination. paradoxical 1,735 August 31, 2014 Share August 31, 2014 It's also possible that Pinkie is emotionally illiterate. Look at the actions of laughing uncontrollably: shaking on the floor, crying and odd hoof motions. Well, Flutters was doing that. If Pinkie cannot decipher others' emotions (excluding Maud) that would explain why she kept going thought Flutters was crying.

I have see people turning on each other over silly things in other groups.
