Hello There!

I would absolutely love to make some music for the Fandom. I just don't know how to start. I am a Game Programmer so this is kind of out of my range.

I know of some good programs such as Mixcraft, but what would you recommend to a new-bee!

Glad to hear you want to try out music writing! Unless you start with something very simple (eg. Garageband), digital music composition can be quite a daunting task (similar to how programming would be for a beginner). I'm not familiar with any beginner programs on Windows, but professional ones available include Reaper, Reason, Ableton Live, Pro Tools, and as previously mentioned, FL Studio (which I personally use as well). I suggest, if you plan on getting a bit more serious with music production, to step away from Mixcraft, since the program itself isn't too efficient and definitely more limited in its capabilities.

I recommend that you learn a little bit of theory behind digital sound to begin with. This can make the more complex looking tools appear much less intimidating and more familiar. For example, it's extremely useful to know the difference between a sine, triangle, square, and sawtooth waveform. With that knowledge, you'd be on your first steps to figuring out subtractive and additive synths and creating your own sounds with them. It's not absolutely necessary that you know these things (though infinitely helpful), online tutorials on how to get started work too. Don't expect yourself to do anything fancy like Skrillex though; it's only natural to go back on your earlier work months later and realize how terrible you were. We've all been there! You'll improve for sure though!

I highly suggest you cover a bit of basics on mastering though. This way, you'll know how to make your track sound clear and loud, and improve the overall quality of the song.

If you want me to go over some basics on sound or FL Studio, feel free to PM me or add me on Skype (username is on my profile, just let me know who you are), I'd be happy to help you out a bit. Otherwise, good luck!

Before you even think about picking software, try to learn some basic music theory.

After that, put some thought into what kind of music you're wanting to make.  Look at what others have done, and try to do something unique with your own projects.  If you churn out some generic Ableton junk that sounds exactly like everybody else's generic Ableton junk, you will probably have a hard time finding an audience.

Still, walk before you run, and all that.  Best of luck!

The question here is: What kind of music? Rock, Pop, Techno, Hardcore or even acustic?

Information: Don't step away from rock or acustic music just because you can't play them. There is software that simulates a pretty good sound for that.
