Prom/Formal Experences

Where I live end-of-school dances are never really called "proms" but "school discos". My high school never had overly fancy discos in which people had to find dates and dress up, but merely dance parties where people could just wear casual clothes. I attended one in 2012 (it was held during school hours) but in 2010, 2011 and 2013 they were held at night and I didn't bother going.

My high school had a prom, it basically amounted to me looking like a complete idiot on the dancefloor (and also doing Gangnam Style with my friend), drinking a LOT of J2O, and then fof the last part just sitting around looking for someone to talk to. Then realising that I will never find love and posting a long Facebook status about it.

So yeah... Not a very good one.

Also, while everyone else turned up in style, I deliberately turned up in the least amount of style as was humanly possible - an old Nissan MIcra. Just to go against the herd.

I know some members here may not yet have had their first prom, but for those who have, how was it? ^^

Mine was pretty bad, my girlfriend and I had a huge fight in the middle of it, and it completely ruined the romantic feeling of the night. We left early, and broke up about...2 days later, I think. Things just weren't the same after that, so it didn't last long at all. ^^"

How about you all? :)

Yeah, pretty similar. Teenage drama trainwreck start to finish. Doesn't matter now; barely mattered then.

I honestly never went to prom throughout my whole highschool career. Never got a date to one. Some people said it was awesome and it was a shame that I missed it, and others said it was a very smart thing that I missed it.

I was the same way.  I never got a date to one.  Actually, in high school and college, I asked girls out on dates quite a few times.  None ever accepted.  After college the opportunities ceased.

What I can say is college is the LAST place where there is even remotely a "social place."  Once you are outside that ivory tower, you will find it far harder to find people.  Keep that in mind.

(45 and never went on a date...)

I didn't go to any of my Proms.   That is b/c my town was way to "cliquey", so instead I went clubbing.

However, I can tell you this, Im glad it didn't go and waste money, b/c both Proms were horrible, b/c the DJ had been repeating songs, someone brought Alcohol (don't ask how they did it), and the lights were never changed so they were flickering to a point where one of them blew out.

It was ok. I couldn't bring my date since I didn't get the ticket in time, so I went with some other friends.

Aside from that, it wasn't bad. I ate, I laughed, I danced, and erm. I can't recall it completely.

I didn't go. I probably won't go any other year either. My schools prom isn't the best and I'd rather get some work done rather than go to that. :P

I've never been to prom. It never really interested me that much.

Last years prom was at the Mall of America. It might have been kind of cool. Oh well. I had better things to do anyways. (Ponies and video games of course.)

Went to a prom in a huge, historic theatre building, had a mandatory dance, mandatory "Blah blah" from the shool director, more "blah blah" from school teachers and then we swiftly left along with few of the cool teachers, went to a music club and got  horribly drunk while badmouthing bad teachers, arriving home midday the next day, moaning about hangover and inherent coolness of getting drunk in fancy clothes.

All in all, not bad. Ah, the nostalgy.

Agreed! That's exactly what I did on the prom of my senior year! ^^

(Well, no ponies. I wasn't a Brony yet! ^^")

I went to my first prom in sophomore year in High School. We actually sat and chatted about for 2 hours and watching the white people "dance."

I hate to put it that way but you'd have to see them dance and our group was laughing at how silly they looked looping their arms in the air like fools.

I was with my group DA which stands for Dance Appreciation, but really DA stands for "Dancing Asians."

Man it was still a blast seeing friends at their best. We did end up showing the place how to properly dance.

To be honest, it was really awkward.  I'm not a social person at all, and I don't dance.  My 'date' was a friend who somehow agreed to go with me (and thank goodness for that, since she's infinitely more socially useful than I am).  However, I'm still glad that I went (if anything, the food that they served was good).  Not a life-changing experience, but it was still fun.

I didn't have a prom.  It was some weird location for a high school prom.  The high school was close by while the location for the prom was up in some hill country.  When my Mom dropped me off, it looked to be a pretty bad thunderstorm and sure enough; KABOOOM! Power goes out.  So I called my Mom to come pick me up because during that time there was no sure sign of alternatives for music.  So everyone sat around in silence.

It was meh. I was alone most of the time during Prom. The person I was going to take to Prom was dating someone already. The other person I was going to take now lives in North Dakota. Also, it was at school. The design was a little poor. We had a mini arcade, but some of the arcade machines didn't work. Someone broke the pool table. But there were some positives. My date was an Umbreon, (Don't know whether or not thats a positive but...), I got to look Faaaaanceeeeh!  It was the first time I ever wore a suit. Sweets galore! good food! Everyone else had a good time at least, thats all that matters. Oh yeah and I danced! (For good five to seven minutes.) My friends either had dates or found one. But not little ol' me! It was okay though.

*ahem*

*shudder*

The main thing I remember about prom is that everyone was grinding, and I wanted no part of it. I pretty much sat on a couch outside the main room all evening. Also, thinking about that reminds me of my ex-girlfriend, whom I've scarcely seen and almost never talked to since we broke up, and that's not fun to think about.

The food was good, though, but that was about the only positive thing about it. All in all, it wasn't really worth it to me.

Oh man, mine was HORRIBLE. The girl I went with was nice when I first met her. We never dated but I just took her to prom since my mom wanted me to go and get photos. She expected WAY too much out of prom. She turned out to be a narcissist and only talked about games to get guys to talk to her. She's one of those types that constantly need to talk to someone in order to feel good about her self. She is a hypocrite and tends to contradict herself a lot. Almost anything offended her easily. She turned on her legitimate friends who was nice to her (like me) when nobody liked her and tried way too hard to be like 'mainstream in crowd'. I eventually told her straight in her face of all the terrible things she did and took for granted right in front of her. It made her depressed for like a week. This was like 3 to (almost) 4 years ago.

I never went to a prom. Part of it was that I dropped out but I probably wouldn't have gone even if I was still in school. Waste of my time. I'd rather spend it playing video games.

Didn't go. My friend and I went to dinner and two movies instead. I've never been much for dressing up and I definitely don't dance so prom seemed like a waste of time for me. I had a good time with my friend though and I regret nothing!
