What does your last name mean

Lunas Husband

Recommended Posts

My last name is Hernandez which means son of Hernando.

I remember when I found that out, it blew my mind.

I was like "does that mean Martinez is son of Martinez?".

haha

But yeah, that's what my last name means. Just that I'm from a lineage that at one point had a dude named Hernando.

I wonder if we'd get along...

My name translates exactly to Corns...

It's german, so yea, nothing cool, though from what I was told by the deutsch is that it's just the german version of miller.

My maiden name is in the top 25 last names in the US and the UK meaning both fame and war. Woo.

Married name refers to the area from which my husband's family is from, where they had the most successful paper mill in Germany for centuries, and the type stone found there. Much cooler last name than my maiden name, too.  :comeatus:

My last name is my father's name. My first name means Dove in hebrew.

Nothing, I'm not being disrespectful. The naming works differently. My last name is my fathers first name.

Same here

My last name is Graham and the internet tells me:

From a Scottish surname, originally derived from the English place name Grantham, which probably meant "gravelly homestead" in Old English The surname was first taken to Scotland in the 12th century by the Norman baron William de Graham. A famous bearer was Alexander Graham Bell (1847-1922), the Scottish-Canadian-American inventor who devised the telephone.

Not sure what my last name means, it's Rapisarda, all I do know is it's Italian.

Your surname is actually most likely a coalescence of two different names, one Germanic and one Latin. Perhaps your ancestor was a Roman who married a Goth?

I'm not sure really. All I know is that my last name is very German, and most people butcher the pronunciation, and spelling of it.

My last name is Swiss, so I have the same problem as you do. Add to this the fact that I'm Dutch and we pronounce the name in the Dutch way, with the patented Dutch throaty 'ch' sound the Americans used to use in WW II to identify the Dutch from the Germans (by asking them to pronounce 'Scheveningen'). That pronunciation guarantees that everyone in the world mispronounces our last name, which is Schanzleh. It was originally Schanzler, apparently, but I haven't the foggiest clue what it actually means. If anyone here happens to know I'd like to hear it.

It's not really my biological name, though, since I don't actually know my biological father.

As far as I can tell, my last name comes from the word 'drone', which is the term used for male honey bees. That, or someone in my family drowned once, and the name stuck.
