Tetrakemy 221 March 13, 2014 Share March 13, 2014 A few things I noticed so far in the middle of season 2 which is where I am at right now. There is a Plathora of normal every day things I have never even seen them reference in the slightest yet. Lets go down the line and see what your opinion on these are. 1. Poop - I know its funny but I gotta ask. Do they have toilets? Or do they poop where they walk and stand? Who cleans up the poop? Do they step in their own poop? OR others poop? Do they ship all of their poop to the farms to be used as fertalizer or does that only work with cow and bat poop? Is there a pony who's special talent and cutie mark is cleaning up other pony's poop? WHERE DO THEY POOP? 2. Do ponies ever say anything about having to pay taxes? Do you think they so? As far as we know today, all economies have taxes. So do they have to pay them? 3. What about careers that do not make sense? Where do all of the ponies get money from? Fluttershy feeds animals which is a useless and pointless endevour because its nothing more then having pets. She is compensating for the lack of any "boy toy" by filling the void with pets etc lol. A bit harsh but its one way to look at it in a realistic point when you meet someone with too many pets and that is pretty much the reason. Twilight probably gets money donated to her from school. So its given to her as allowence. Rarity and Applejack and Rainbow Dash are the only ones who have actual careers. Rainbow dash is more military or public servent style payment while the others work for their money though merchantile goods. What about ponies who's "special talent" is something that no one would pay for? Where do they get money to live? We know they have to pay bits for food. So where does the money come from? 4. Do they ever once reference where children come from? Ever? Many children cartoons do and some even refuse to lie to kids and have a pregs woman somewhere in the background or as the mother to one of the characters etc. 5.What would you say thier level of technology is at? Timeline wise compared to us? 1950's? 1920? Modern but without the vehicles and computers? I never seen a T.V or radio before. So what do?
Scootalove 10,692 March 13, 2014 Share March 13, 2014 (edited) 1. They have toilets, they don't show us how they go to the bathroom. 2. They don't really reference anything to taxes, but we do know they have an economic system. 3. Ponies get their money from having jobs or performing for others, their talent depicts their job. 4. Not really. But, I don't know why they should. 5. I'd say their level of technology is probably when we were still trying to invent technology. But it is hard to tell whether they are technologically advanced than us, or if they are behind us. Andaasonsan 3,205 March 13, 2014 Share March 13, 2014 1. There's an episode where in one part Pinkie desperately needs to go to the bathroom and runs to an outhouse. 2. Taxes have never been mentioned. I can neither confirm nor deny their existence in Equestria. 3. Fluttershy is the animal caretaker for Ponyville, which is actually an important job, because animals in Equestria are too stupid to feed themselves. So presumably she gets paid for it. 4. There's a scene where they're at a hospital in the maternity ward because Mr. and Mrs. Cake had twins. 5. Hard to say. In some ways they're behind us and in other ways they're caught up. Also, the existence of magic makes things more complicated. Application REJECTED!
Cwanky 17,749 March 14, 2014 Share March 14, 2014 Well considering Mayor Mare said this: Unless the show was trying to portray her as some greedy money grubbing person, it seems more than likely that given the disrepair of Ponyville's city hall and its seemingly inept figurehead politicians, ie Mayor Mare, it seems the ponies do have a budget they have to follow to maintain things. This implies some form of revenue, which if not taxation requires some systematic and nuanced management of a budget. The fact alone that mayors and politicians exist in Equestria suggests the need for a higher governmental authority to manage things. Hey, someone has to do the dirty work. Ponyville and the rest of Equestria don't stay happy and colorful all on their own.
SCS 7,537 March 14, 2014 Share March 14, 2014 Hi there , I have moved your topic from Sugarcube Corner to Show Discussion. Sugarcube Corner is the place to discuss various pony-related things such as the fandom that do not directly involve Friendship is Magic, while Show Discussion is the place to discuss the Friendship is Magic show itself. man dude man 555 March 14, 2014 Share March 14, 2014 (edited) With all the princesses and princes, and "king" sombra, the pony world would leave one to believe they live in an constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system like England or Scotland, seeing as cities have mayors, and what not, however it seems like politics vary on location in Equestria, seeing as Sombra was more of a dictator figure, but at the end of the day, it's still a cartoon, best not to over think things to much I suppose. pinkiefan1287 610 March 14, 2014 Share March 14, 2014 4. Do they ever once reference where children come from? Ever? Many children cartoons do and some even refuse to lie to kids and have a pregs woman somewhere in the background or as the mother to one of the characters etc. In the episode, Baby Cakes, Mr. and Mrs. Cake had twins. Pound Cake was a pegasus and Pumpkin Cake was a unicorn. They did not say anything about Mrs. Cake giving birth or going into labor, but they were at a Hospital. Implying that babies are born with a mother and father. Also Mr. Cake did say he has a unicorn relative on his side of the family and Mrs. Cake has a pegasus relative or her side of the family. So that could be another way of saying where babies come from. Made by Gone ϟ Airbourne
Singe 2,111 March 14, 2014 Share March 14, 2014 The economy of Equestria uses bits (gold coins) and gems as forms of currency. It's just a matter of preference which pony will take. Rarity is easily the richest character out of the Mane 6 since she can go finds gems.

Colt 555 March 15, 2014 Share March 15, 2014 1. Poop - As far as i know and under a twitt made by GODDES HERSELF lauren faust there are no toilets on equestira and here is that proof. 2 - Taxes. There is something really interesting to think about and there are two main sides of this coin the one an simple is MAGIC there are no taxes. And then there is the second side the more real one. As you say every economy in the history of this world (as far as I know) has shown something like taxes, tributes or something similar. Taking this into fact would be considered that ponies should have also some sort of tax system, yet! taking this as a simple fact would be not quite right and that is because there is a figure which does not exist in our world and that is Celestia. Take this in consideration, before the Sun and Moon sisters there was a constant cooperation with the tribes to make the world "go round", earthponies, pegasi and unicorns had to work as a unit to get the sustain, weather, earth sun and moon were "managed" by the tribes to survive then everything changed (not because the fire nation attack) two main figures took the place of the Unicorns, Sun and Moon were controled by two and then one sole being. It wont be crazy to consider that all tree tribes would pay some kind of tribute for the ones who control the sun itself, also this could explain why unicorns, or at least those on canterlot are so uptight, after all their "place among the tribes" was taken by the princesses leaving them to just enjoy life most refined hobbies. 4. Reproduction. Well... it is "sugested" foals come from a pregnant mare and also referenced that this foals are to carry the "heritance" of each one of their parents family. The "nerves" and "anxiety" from Mr and Ms Cake on their twins episodes could be considered as a direct reference to "sexual reproduction", some could say that there is no a straight reference and that there could be other "magical means" to achieve this BUT there is more reasons to think the other way. The main reason is the couple we were talking about, this are Earthponies, there is no "evidence" they can use magic out of their bodies (because is a fact every being of the Equestrian world has magic in it) we have to take that there is some degree of "fisical" contact to reproduce.. 5. Technology is something interesting in the pony world taking that there are multiple examples of it but not real "infrastructure" for it to work like in our world. I would say that their technology level is close to that found in 1890 according, to transportation, communication and information. YET there is an amazing leap about their technology about energy sources. Given that there are no power lines or "lightning" on the streets we can suppose that there is not control over electricity or its use on technology, yet! we can see autonomous instruments, speakers, machines and "computers" used in the show how does that work? My money is on MAGIC, this because the propeller of RD's pet turtle Tank, that thing is clearly powered by magic so that would be my take.
