Would we really do what misanthropes say to the Ponies?

 

As in many misanthropic Bronies say even when Humanity peacefully makes first contact with the MLP FIM Ponies, but afterwards we just either enslave them, commit xenocide on them or even do Warhammer 40K exterminatus on their planet.

 

That it is literally impossible for Human and Ponies to be friends and errr lovers, at least according to misanthropes. I'd like to think we wouldn't be such jerks like Lotr Orcs or Darkspawn. But what are your views?

I don't think there would be xenocide but some governments will without a doubt try to perform experiments on the ponies ET style which could lead to some conflict. Some racism will exist on both sides as ponies have clearly been shown to be capable of this in the episode Bridle Gossip with their treatment of Zecora and with how Rarity and Pinkie Pie called Iron Will a "monster" in Putting Your Hoof Down. Human and pony friendships and even relationships will happen and there will plenty of people and ponies that will have problems with that. Some humans will condemn these relationships as "bestiality" and although I don't think there will be as many ponies using that argument against it as I suspect that inter species relationships probably do happen in Equestria but may simply be afraid of and suspicious of humans due to the two faced and manipulative nature of some of them as well some of their own prejudices.

I doubt holy Terra would perform an exterminatus on Equestria... considering how many valuable resources they have... Gems seems like something you can find if you just dig a little. So an exterminatus would even seem foolish from a warhammer 40k perspective.

 

Make it to a forge world after the purging maybe.

 

But in all honesty Equestria has orbital friendship cannons that would kill all humans.

 

And I mean we arent nearly as xenophobic as warhammer 40k. So I in all honesty dont think we would make war on them.

I highly doubt we would have the skill, intellect or technological prowess to enslave an entire race of magic talking ponies. More likely it would be the other way round.

In all seriousness though? I think America would hate Equestria because it is probably the closest thing in fiction to a functional Marxist Utopia. But that's not humans, that's just America and a small part of it at that.

I do not consider myself misanthropic these days, seriously, but I don't see humankind taking the high road as much as some would like with this one.

I don't really base that entirely on human nature, as a lot of my belief in this comes from history.

I think it's possible for a good 80%+ of humanity to get along with ponies once the first hitches get sorted.

However, I have yet to see any notable case where a dramatically different foreign nation wasn't warred/disputed with over differences in culture/location/government/community/heritage/resources.

 

I think we're too opportunistic to NOT strain relationships on key points.

And really, if memory serves, if something is a threat to us, we arm up. If something is weaker than us, we petition for influence and/or resources.

Hence the beginning of WWI, some moments in WWII, how the Cold War started, and other unnamed conflicts beyond that. I'm kinda working my way through US history this year, from start to end, so it's kinda fresh in my mind how telling history is of human nature.

I do think we'd be more accepting nowadays then we would've in the past.

But.

I don't think we've moved far enough away from our history to not repeat it.

To list a few darker cases: the Native Americans in North America treated the settlers as friends. They truly did. They even taught them how to survive in their lands and not die from starvation/etc. The settlers returned this for a time, but when they got a foothold and grew more powerful and numerous, they gradually used it to their advantage over their former friends. Radicals came along and acted as a catalyst, sure, but overall the general progress was "we're bigger and stronger, and we deserve more land/resources because we would make much better use of it."
A lot of treaties were signed theoretically just because the US lacked the manpower and will to clear the Indians out. SO many of these treaties (Black Hills, off the top of my head) were later voided when it became more and more inconvenient to keep.

 

I DON'T think we'd go exterminatus on them by any means--definitely not--but I DO think we'd eventually vie for power/influence, and a strong hold on their resources of all kinds, if not setup small 'colonies' in the less-claimed areas of Equestria, and drill/mine/experiment to the earthly nations' contentment.

I feel like they would be slowly welcomed into society, but there would be radical groups, like the Westboro Baptist Church, which would condemn them as demons or something. There would be a lot of speciesm, there are just so many people who are closed minded, ignorant fools who hate any form of change whatesoever. If we can't get along with our own brothers and sisters, what makes you think we'd get along with another species?

 

I know most people would be accepting, but there are far too many radicals out there.

I'll speak for myself because I consider myself to be a cynical a-hole, but I wouldn't go as far as to say that I'm a misanthrope today.

 

I operate on a basis that people are different from each other. So I can imagine people that would go to Equestria and delve in the wonder of pony goodness as much as I can see some people that would just go there to "make cupcakes".

 

I think humans are selfish by nature and the only think that makes us good is the fact that we need to live in society and we learn our morals from our peers. Most of the people are moral enough to just get on with their lives trying their best to make enough money so they can have a comfortable life and most of them will not try too hard to get any unfair advantage. Not very different from the ponies, if you ask me.

 

So I don't think that humans are good or bad, other than they'll look for their survival and that of the ones they love. They are what their environment makes of them. If they are taught to be murderous beasts that care for nothing more than their next diner, then that is what they will be. If people don't have the need to look for ways in which they can have the advantage, then there is no need for them to lie, cheat, rob. And this is why, I think, criminality is born off social inequity.

 

So, if humans went to Equestria, I hope to Celestia the ponies have ways to deal with all the bullshit we'd be taking with us, like ultra-rich jerks that think the universe is theirs to rip off, power-hungry politicians that think that their times in office is for sale to the highest bidder and people that think that it's acceptable to kill someone because they are having a bad day or simply because they have something they want.

 

TL; DR... Humans are not good. They may not be bad, but they are not good either. So I think that if humans went to Equestria, a part of them would find ways to rip off the planet of any natural resources and abuse the political system and social structure for their own gain, as much as some people would just want to live their lives normally.
