do you think we will get "That episode"

I see commercials for the intended female audience. These girls look like they're 10-12 years old. So even though younger girls watch the show. You think we will get "that episode" the one that has a topic that we need to know as kids growing up in life. Kids have questions that pertain to the episode topics.

Where do ponies come from?

Moms breast feeding kids.

Puberty.

LGBT

Politics

You think the show can subtly pull these topics off?

I doubt it. There are some cartoons that choose to be revolutionary, but those cartoons are typically not as corporatist as Hasbro. They won't introduce topics like that until they are accepted in the majority.

But... ponies don't have breasts...

Thanks a lot for putting that image in my mind.

But seriously though, the pony world doesn't actually seem to have the quote unquote "resources" to pull a lot of those topics off.

The show wasn't able to subtly call one of the supporting cast "Derpy" and get away with it. They still refuse to directly acknowledge something like disability or the deaths of one's parents even though that is probably an everyday reality for untold numbers of the show's audience. They won't touch any of those subjects with a ten foot pole.

Nahh. It's nothing really that's needed, anyway.

I dunno why people worry about the lesson it teaches so much; sure, it's a nice element, but I know I watch this show because I find it entertaining, not because I want to learn about puberty and what not :derp: I'm sure most kids who watch it feel the same way :D

Besides, Hasbro isn't going to let the writers risk something like that; it can damage their credibility, after all :D

Maybe

The first two are completely unnecessary, I don't think the 3rd is needed either. The fourth one I feel is too controversial for the show to tackle. As for the 5th one, many kids shows have taken a shot at political themes, but it's usually things like elections or more low key issues like bans/strikes/petitioning issues, there's really nothing they have to lose making a more political episode, but it really depends on how they go about it

But in all, we're more likely to get an episode about death before getting any of these

Thing to note: My Little Pony is supposed to be on for at least five more seasons. That means we'll have a season nine in the year 2019. At that time public attitudes about things can have shifted a lot. (Especially in regards to LGBTs)

As for the other ones, NO WAY WOULD THEY DO ANY OF THESE EPISODES. Problem 1 is, they are ponies not humans. The message won't relate well because of that. Second these are questions when kids get to their teens, not when there 4 or 7. Way to soon.

But it would really be creating an unnecessary shitstorm. No one is going to stop watching FiM because they don't try to tackle LGTBBQ issues, but they can loose a large fanbase, and could incur a large amount of rage from parents from putting issues that really, are not for the market audience (7-9 year old girls). It would be a net loose to include those issues as morals.

Well another thing to note then: A seven year old who started watching in Season 1 will be in high school in season 9. They could actually make the show grow with the audience a little.

But then they loose their market audience. They don't care about the children who grew up with the show, those people will die someday. But if you keep it marketed towards kids, then you can always sell to the same age group, and you client base will never die off.

But there's no proof saying that 7 year old, well stick with the show for 9 years. As people age, they grow out of thing and get interested in other thing. It would be a wast of time trying to appeal to an aging audience.

Besides I highly doubt that they would age the show with the audience. They aren't going to have an episode in season 1, about playing far and in season 8, Rainbow Dash deciding if she want's to keep the baby or get in aborted. That would never work.

This presumes that 1. the seven year old who started watching season one is still into the show in season 9 and 2. new 7 year old girls who weren't alive when the first season aired don't pick up watching the show in season 8 or so.

Ponies come from pegasi in stork costumes.

When baby ponies drink milk, it's enriched soy milk. From a bottle. And the tip is censored.

Ponies don't go through puberty. When it's time to grow into an adult, they cocoon and emerge in their new body.

LGBT ponies exist, but all ponies are content with their destinies and no pony ever challenges the legitimacy of another pony's identity, so it simply *never arises as an issue*. It happens. It's just that nobody cares.

Politics are "because Celestia said so. Shut up".

i've always assumed getting one's cutie mark WAS the pony equivalent of puberty.

I used to know a guy who said this. It came up a few times actually ..

I was always pretty adamant against it. Puberty is confusing, gross, and even painful. Even the word is gross.

Getting your cutie mark is .. none of these things? It's a revelation; a defining moment of clarity and self-realization. Puberty is just an unpleasant thing that happens to you.

All they have in common is they're a change that happens as a part of growing up. That could describe a lot of things. If anything, getting a cutie mark is a lot closer to graduation than puberty.

imo

Let's see what Mario, Robotnik, and Vader have to say:

you forgot this one

the farthest they might go is the CMC growing up without touching puberty themes, or Cadance as an expectant mother

Where do ponies come from?

"Baby Cakes" already addressed this a bit, though I doubt they are ever going to do a thing about the birds and the bees.  At best it would end up like this.

Moms breast feeding kids.

Not on Celestia's Watch!  Why would the young ones even care?

Puberty.

It's implied that getting one's cutie mark is the pony equivalent of puberty.  Plus, target demographic would be a bit young for that, don't ya think?

LGBT

I don't think so.  At best they'll have an episode that can be interpreted as an LGBT allegory, but nothing outright.

Politics

I'd like them to do this but I don't think the kids will really get it. Plus, what @ said.

I'm still waiting on a drug related, or an addiction in general related episode.......

That's been done and done well in cartoons before, but the target audience for this one might be a bit too young for an effective episode like that.
