I am running the Ubuntu 14.04 LTS beta. So I know I don't really have 14.04 yet. But I did update the drivers from realteks website properly. I'm getting better at basic functions for updating files. But the LAN adapter is not communicating properly with Ubuntu. I have to keep turning the airport off, then on again. I can wire it to my modem downstairs since my dad will not allow it. I also have my brother's 360 wired for recording video games off the HDPVR2. So I can't move anyways. Anyone have methods I can fix this wifi once and for all. Because with a 7200RPM HDD, downloads are faster for some reason. I have an i5 3570k and 16 GB DDR3. So I above average for speed.

Ah I see, got any laptops? you could steal a wireless network card from that.

Well funny you ask that. I was going to install 14.04 on my mac book... But wait! Open firmware has no method of opening properly and I can't easily destroy OSX and install 14.04 because Apple locks down everything. So I want Ubuntu on my mac book too, I am having some issues wit that as well.

I don't understand what's wrong with OS X, but okay.

Well if you know where you can fetch another wireless card, I do that.

because I imagine your motherboard has built-in wireless like mine?

PCI wireless. Realtek also has embedded HD sound as well.

Oh wow, well in that case, if have any other wireless dongles, I'd try the wireless with those first. Have any other PCI cards you could try or USB wireless sticks?

Make sure you have a burned copy of the earlier stable 13.10 around, so if you have problems with 14.04, you can revert back to it.  I upgraded to the 14.04 beta and it ran find for a few days.  They I had an update on it, had to restart for the update, and when it restarted I was locked out of everything.  Had to use the DVD 13.10 to use to runoff to access the internet to find a fix but couldn't.  Had to reinstall the earlier version.

Could also try manjaro or Antergos, Arch-based distros, and tend to be a little more bleeding edge than even the *buntus.

though if you want to get even more bleeding edge, use Arch proper.
