Did Hasbro force in Princess Cadence?

I think Hasbro was too cheap to just get rid of the old pink plastic mould of princess celestia

celestia

so they decided to "force in" a pink princess cadence so that after the accurate white princess celestia comes out, they have a toy to use the old "base" on.

What do you think? Is this just a coincidence? or Hasbro being cheap?

Every fiber of my being is telling me no but my mind knows better than that, your probably right in your reasoning here. After all, it's all about those profits, isn't Hasbro?

Why they could not just make a white Celestia now just annoys me soooooooo much....It's like she has a sunburn or something! Ponies should always wear sunblock!

Not only that, but I am disappointed that the Princess Candence is just a re-color of an "error" product.

(Yes I consider that Celestia as an error as it is missing color on even her shoes, yet the crown is colored..)

Well, I didn't want it to be true, but I'm looking at the pictures of both toys and they are way too similar for it to be just a coincidence - most likely it is the same mould.

Then you have some other evidence as well. According to Lauren Faust, Princess Cadence was not originally supposed to be an Alicorn.

As much as I hate to say it, this looks like another case of Hasbro's financial interests influencing the writing of the show.

Well the MLP TV series is created to sell toys so... I wouldn't put it above them.

they could at least put some effort into them... all the other blind bag ponies were moulds of rainbow dash, rarity or twilight. Its sort of like a big middle finger to the people who support the show.

They could of yes, but thats not how you make money. Anyway, its not the teams fault, you can blame executive meddling for that.

executives only worry about the money I guess...

I had the feeling that she was forced. It didn't seem like the show's crew to add another alicorn out of nowhere like that.

But hey, Hasbro's financial interests affected the show before it was even made. It's because of them that Celestia is a princess, and not a queen, despite acting much more like the latter than anything. They did so because little girls would be intimidated by an "evil" queen and we all know every little girl likes a toy that has the word "princess" in it!

It's not really a surprise that they would continue to affect the show. I think that the crew though has proven themselves well-capable of working around their restrictions to make a great product. And they will probably continue to do so in the episodes where Princess Cadence appears.

As Arylett and HAL9000 have pointed out, there's sufficient evidence to conclude that Cadence, at least in terms of being an alicorn, was foisted upon the shows creators by Hasbro. It's so easy for us to forget that this show was created to sell a toy line...and so sometimes you have new things introduced like this.

Considering the quality of the show, I'm not the least bit worried about the show creators being able to handle Cadence well enough to avoid any serious pitfalls or bring the show to its knees. There will probably be more toy related issues in the future and I expect they'll handle those too.

It is obviously a desire of Hasbro to "safeplay" as much as they can, to "optimize their income".

So, Cadence is an attempt to use the flaw called "Pinkestia", but in another form, that may be far less of a flaw.

In the hands of the FiM crew, she'll probably prove to be at least an ok, and perhaps even a really good character in her own right.

So i say:

Allow Hasbro this indulgence. :)

but the thing i question is will it be a reacurring character or just a one time thing i personally think we see her more than once because of the whole alicorn thing also im expecting some fan art huehuehue

I'm pretty sure Candence was originally a princess to begin with according to Lauren's post (perhaps a plain unicorn or pegasus), its also because of her statement of her being involved with the story makes me fell confident that the wedding episodes won't be so bad afteral.

It must have been Hasbro's idea to make her an alicorn, an alicorn princess would sell better in thier eyes I bet.

You know, I really don't mind if hasbro made them use Cadence, but what I do terribly fear, is that in the show there will be no alusion to her actually being an Alicorn! Do you imagine how terribly it could be if they treated her just as a normal pony and didn't acknowledge the fact that she must be some sort of goddess?!

I really really really really hope they don't fuck it up

Princess Cadence seemed to exist back when Lauren Faust still worked on the show, so I don't think Hasbro forced her in.

However, I am pretty sure Hasbro forced her to be a pink alicorn, given all the merchadising involving her.

Logically speaking, if there are two of a certain species, there could be more. Am I the only one who thinks it's silly to get all bent out of shape over something that hasn't even happened yet? How do you know the two parter won't be an excellent story?

The blind bag manufacturers have a history of reusing molds. It's no big deal. They have to make them as cheaply as possible to make the most profit. You're kidding yourself if you think ANY corporation does something to be "nice". There's profit in them toys! Besides, it would most likely be much more cost effective to paint new blank ponies then repaint the wrongly colored Celestia.

By the way, the mold doesn't determinate the coloring. Most likely all the ponies come out white, and then are painted.

  • 2 years later...

I Joined the forum because I am curious about this! My child and I just found a box labeled "Princess Celestia" with pictures of white princess on the front and back. Inside the box, "That's Princess Cadence, Mom!" the exasperated child exclaimed..... PINK Pony. I did not purchase or check the cutie marks. (It was wearing a cape with shiny stuff on it!) I don't know if it was collectible or some error on the part of the store (goofy returns?). It had tape. It appeared to be un opened. I already "won the lottery". I Don't need any collectibles to sit around my house for 10-20 years to gain enough worth to re sell. I think Un played with collectible toys are creepy. So, I just showed it to a store clerk who took it away. It only costs about $16.99. It was maybe 8 inches or 9 inches tall? I Don't know.  Maybe it's nothing. Thank you for being kind. I'm new here.

I wouldn't say that Cadence as a whole was forced; just her alicorn form.

Then again, AntonyC and Tommy Oliver point out the obvious that the she (and Shining Armor) were never properly built up in previous episodes.

Meh, I don't mind. I like 'em well enough.
