Since Meghan said that SpRarity isn't going to happen, seems the SpRarity episode she promised (and wrote) is going to start Spike down the road to getting over her.

 

Well, we can always ship him with Flitter or something.

 

What do you think?  Will Spike being moving on starting in this episode?  Or will we have to wait until season 5 for that?

I got the impression Spike had already moved on from Rarity, from his crush phase.  My emphasis during Simple Ways when Spike just shrugs off the irony that Rarity falls for another pony who doesn't even acknowledge her feelings. So I figured spike got over Rarity some time prior to that episode, inbetween the time. (inb4 I screwed up irony again).

 

Honestly, I figure he would do it as a friend towards her, not because he still has a crush for her. (If they end up writing Spike like that I will be disappointed with that). Maybe this ep will just end up sealing the nail in the coffin.

Spike will have to move on someday, Rarity might not acknowledge his feelings about her this season, but I think having him move on would have to be the right thing.

I wouldn't read too much into any of this. This is a kid-friendly show about FRIENDSHIP. There's no way that anything romantic, or even quasi-romantic, is going to be front and center for very long. Things like ships never go anywhere in these kinds of shows. It's the fans that keep them alive.

I agree that Spike seemed pretty close to being over Rarity in Simple Ways, especially after her comment about knowing what it's like to have a crush on someone only for them to have one on someone else. Spike will never stop liking Rarity as a friend, caring about her feelings or helping her when he can, but he seems just about done with thinking of her as a potential serious romantic interest.

 

Now, let's have an episode where the Cutie Mark Crusaders get into a huge fight over who gets to ask Spike to a dance.

Yea, I think he's close to being over Rarity, but despite there eventually being no romantic inclination between them I think it's safe to say that they're very close friends now. Think about it, Spike has spent a lot of time with Rarity over the past 4 seasons, and they obviously care greatly about one another.

 

Spike goes out of his way to help Rarity whenever he can, he was willing to give Rarity his one-of-a-kind ruby to make her happy, and he is generally happy to just be in her company. This is reciprocated by Rarity showing she was willing to fight a dragon to save him, rewarding him for helping her and/or her friends on several occasions, not even being remotely upset at him over the events of Secret of My Excess, and hell he's the only character in the series Rarity refers to by a nickname/pet-name (she doesn't even do this when she baby-talks to her cat, Opal).

Am I the only one that sort of wants Rarity and Spike to date? I mean I enjoy the scenes between them especially in the Simple Ways episode where Spike was reacting to Rarity's comment about crushes. Ah well, guess they'll stay friends.

I'm glad for this, as it finally brings some of the maturity that Spike sorely needs in his character but was unfortunately rejected by his poor treatment from much of the writing staff. Now we can finally see Spike deal with concepts such as "moving on" and hopefully get some good character development and some good episodes for him.

If the episode continues Sparity as it has been going on for the past 4 seasons, fine. But if they're going to end it it would be better if there would be some kind of resolution. Rarity can't keep leading Spike on forever, can she?

 

During the promos for the upcoming episodes there is at least one scene where:

 

Rarity gives Spike a big hug in some bleachers, but he doesn't look like he's enjoying it!

I think Spike is getting over Rarity. Or at least he's starting too anyways. In Simple Ways I thought he'd be jealous of that one pony Rarity liked, but he didn't really seem to care.

If there is some good character development to be had, I'd be fine with Rarity letting Spike down gently; there is some lesson to be learned. But if that happened, it should be the focus on an episode, not a side plot.

That being said, people will continue to shipü the two regardless of what happens in the show, same as with every other ship.
