gaming Are 3DS's worth it?

I'm gonna disagree with that right there. The game library is the only reason one should ever consider a gaming console. Ever. The rest of the bullshit is secondary. The games are what matter. Without the games no one would even look at the console no matter how many features it had.

I know that. I know the rest doesn't actually matter. But sometimes it does. And sometimes it doesn't. It's more of a matter of a opinion and everyone had their own.

I was aware of that before I even purchased a 3ds. I was just mentioning that I didn't like the 3d aspect of it. That's not so wrong, is it? I'm wondering why you would bother mentioning that it's optional.

I don't really know myself. I guess that, well I don't know...

Yes, I think so.It had a slow start but has released a lot of great games which people have mentioned including a lot of downloadable titles via the e shop as well. Here are the games I would most reccomend

Bravely Default: If you like RPG's you will love this one, it is a spiritual successor to Final Fantasy The Four Heroes of Light. It is a game with a very trippy story with all sort of character classes and abilities that will keep you playing for quite a while.

Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D: A remake of a wii game of a similar name, it is the first Donkey Kong Country game to be released in a long time. It is worthy game in a great series but holy bananas is it brutal as far as difficulty goes.

Fire Emblem Awakening: A great tactic RPG it is the first game in the series where you can make it to where your characters don't die permanently.

Pokemon X/Y: I lost interest in Pokemon a while back but got back in a bit after these were released, I am still not the hard core Pokemon fanatic I was a while back but they are quite decent.

Super Mario 3D Land: It is the best portable Mario game ever made.

Zelda A Link Between Worlds: If you like Zelda A Link To The Past than this game will give you the fangasm to end all fangasms. This game is a sequel to A Link To The Past and quite a worthy one at that.

The 2DS looks kinda crappy though. I saw a review on it and it just looks inconvenient to hold. I'd rather just get a 2nd hand 3DS.

True.....it does suck in a way, but, I personally got it, b/c its cheaper and there's no 3D.  Even with the 3DS, the bar to lower the 3D view still screws up my eyes, in a way,

I'd honestly say yes. And if you plan to get one, get the 3DS XL. It has the most bang for your buck.

Games like:

Pokemon X and Y (also Ruby and Sapphire remakes soon!)

Donkey Kong Country Returns

Kirby Triple Deluxe

Legend of Zelda: Link Between Worlds (and Ocarina of Time remake!)

JRPG's like Shin Megami, Bravely Default, and many others

Mario

Animal Crossing

Kid Icarus

And ESPECIALLY Fire Emblem Awakening

I think it has plenty of potential. And now with Super Smash Bros coming to the 3DS, which also has an online mode, that itself is enough reason to get it.

Some down sides are terrible looking screen compared to a Vita. The social aspect of it is God awful, and I've never been too impressed with any of its internet capabilities. But gameplay and enjoyment wise, it really has no rival.

Although I haven't played mine much recently due to the amout of PC games I've recently got, I would definitely say it's worth it. I got mine in Spring of 2011 and haven't regretted the purchase once. Here's a list of games that I have for it.

Super Mario 3D Land

MarioKart 7 (better online)

Star Fox 64 3D: (local multiplayer is hilariously fun)

Kid Icarus Uprising (my favorite. playtime over 275  hours.)

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy (absolutely glourious in 3D. headphones make it sound amazing)

PilotWings Resort

Animal Crossing: New Leaf

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D

Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

I'm planning on getting Pokemon X soon and Super Smash Bros. 4 when it comes out.

Like every new electronics beside Nokia, it is very fragile, VERY fragile. Just watch out not to drop it on the floor, this ain't no gameboy anymore.

But I guess it will be worth it if they release more games.

I personally love mine. It makes for long travels or to lounge on my bed or couch just gaming my weekend away. They have a good selection of games in my opinion too.

Srsly, doe. I think the 3DS is absolutely worth it. Great games, solid hardware. The 3D/2D option is a slider bar, too, so you can tweak it to exactly how your eyes view it best. Someone mentioned it being a little too pricey, considering they don't like the 3D. However, the only other option is the 2DS which looks really quite clunky and awkward to carry. I pocket my 3DS, and considering my pockets, a 2DS would certainly not fit.

I finally broke down and bought a 3DS XL just for Pokemon Y, kind of regret it. Not too much else on the system I really care enough for to spend the money on, seems to be a very common problem with me and consoles anymore. I really want a Vita to replace my PSP-1000, but just not worth it. I will say the 3DS is much nicer then the original launch silver DS it replaced.

If a good Metroid game would get released, my regret would be crushed, but I fear if they do release one it'll be like the horrible Prime Hunters game the original DS had. I'd just be happy with being able to play Super Metroid on it, or an awesome Metroid 2 remake in the same fashion of Zero Mission.

The 2DS... Well that's got to be the dumbest thing Nintendo has ever made. I don't get why they didn't make it fold, I've also heard the built quality is awful. Very much feels like something meant for kids in the backseat of a minivan.

The 3D effect doesn't affect me at all, and I'm highly prone to migraines. I think its pretty neat, but I leave it off most the time just because of battery life (I have Epic Mickey which makes good use of the 3D).

I wouldn't say it's worth it but that's only because it's Nintendo and, as Yahtzee accurately pointed out, they seem to be addicted to failure. If you like the monotony of the same games being spewed out time after time at a faster rate than Call of Duty games then the 3DS is for you. Also, if you really like eye strain then it's fantastic.

In all seriousness, despite my grievances with Nintendo, if you want to play Pokemon then it's pretty much your only option. I would suggest a 2DS though; it's cheaper and you won't use the 3D anyway because it FUCKING HURTS!

Very much feels like something meant for kids in the backseat of a minivan.

That is because it was, a lot of kids eyes got jacked up from the 3D effect on the 3DS and apparently a lot of parents haven't gotten the memo that the 3DS's 3D feature can be turned off and even disabled completely via the parental controls feature in the settings. I understand why certain people don't use the 3D feature, I can get the same effect by drinking a bottle of whiskey and it hurts my eyes but I suppose even if it dosen't have the 3D feature it does have all the other features so I guess if you don't care about that feature and want to save a few bucks the 2DS might be a viable option.

I sure hope so, as I actually just picked up a used 3DS today in anticipation for the new Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire remakes, and also because I have been dying to play the new X and Y versions. Pokemon games have always been system sellers for those who enjoy the series, and I am certainly no exception even though I am a very casual video game player. I'll always get the latest Nintendo handhelds just for Pokemon, if nothing else.

But while Nintendo is struggling, they've always had excellent first party games, especially handheld ones. The 3DS library seems small, but I'm certain there are quality games worth owning the system for. :)

I don't have one but if it's something you're interested in then sure it's worth it (especially if it has some games you want to go with it). I'm in the past for DS' since I still have the old DS Lite.

3DS is worth getting if you asked me, but if you have any other older models such regular, DSLite, and DSi models, you can trade in one of those models for the 2/3DS models however if you trade in your regular and DSLite models, you will lose the GBA port so if you're planning on migrating your 3rd gen pokemon from pokemon R/S/E/FR/LG, you probably need regular and DSLite models.

as for the 3DS games, you can buy games from your local game store, but if you want to avoid tax, then you wanna get a digital copy of the retail game. It's highly advised to get a larger SD card like 8-16GB class 10 SD card. the only warning part about getting the digital copy is that the save datas from the games you downloaded as a digital copy of the retail game can't be transferred over to another SD card nor saved upon deleting such as animal crossing: new leaf and pokemon X/Y.

3DS games recommendations, I would recommend these following Games

If you like pokemon then, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, Pokemon X/Y, Pokemon Rumble Blast are way to go. The Downside parts about pokemon mystery dungeon: Gates to Infinity is that you're forced to use your moves and normal attacks do a fix damage of 5 and as for both pokemon mystery dungeon: gates to infinity, and Pokemon Rumble Blast is that Difficulty increases as you go through the game. Pokemon X/Y is easy right now, but if you want to make it challenging, you can turn off the exp. share and do it the old fashion way or nuzlocke challenge or a challenge of your own.

Kirby Triple DX - I'm a Huge fan of Kirby right now, but If you're one of them like me, Get this game.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf - It can get boring fast by yourself, but usually it's fun when play with other people. Highly Recommended for the digital copy

Kid Icarus Uprising - Has 1st person View, but difficulty of the game is varies by chapter and how much intensity you want to clear the game.

Super Mario 3D Land - It's pretty much a good game.

If you like Legend of Zelda, then OoT and A Link Between Worlds are recommended by many players, but mostly both. If you haven't played OoT on N64 and GCN, then OoT will have both original and master quests along with hero mode.

If you played Final Fantasy: The 4 heroes of light before, then get Bravely Default. My advice is to keep your party job setup well balanced and target the enemy that you think it's most threatening to you also there's a demo of the game for it so if you get the demo, not only you will have your save file, but also some rewards that you have done on the demo. Never Use red mages unless you have a high leveled white and black magic from both white and black mage jobs so you don't have to worry about using lower leveled magic from Black & White magic aka Red Magic. Well Balanced Party should consist having 2 melee attackers (or 1 tank and 1 melee attacker), a healer, and a black mage or a summoner.

Wait, you can just trade a DS for a 3DS? I'm beginning to really wish I didn't sell my DS now -.- do the 3DS's have internal storage? And how much do downloaded games take up?

Yeah you can trade your regular DS, DSLite and DSI models for 2/3DS however if you trade in regular and DSLite models, you lose the GBA port so you have to think about your decision. any damages to those 2 models will deduct the amount for refurbishing and repairs cost. The amount of room for downloaded games are varies so you may want to check the eShop for any information or check the site. Some games have DLCs so they take up more room on your SD card.

As well as those mentioned above, the VC has some great games on it as well.

Kirby's Adventure 3D looks stunning, as does Space Harrier 3D. Mole Mania is a fun little puzzle game. Burger Time Deluxe is a vast improvement over the original arcade version. Link's Awakening, Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons are all on the VC too, as well as NES classics like Metroid, Castlevania and Super Mario Bros. 3.

Also, I'd recommend the XL. The bigger screen and softer curves are awesome.

Well if you're part of the ambassador program which was the system release before it became cheap to buy, you can get some of the NES and GBA VC games for the 3DS for free and I'm one of those people who has one of those ambassador program certificates.

There are classic 3D NES games such as kirby's adventure and excitebike. The Note side on Kirby's adventure is that if you have kirby's dream collection for the wii and/or Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland for the GBA, it's pretty much optional to have one, but most kirby fans including myself say that kirby: nightmare in dreamland was pretty much better than kirby's adventure itself, it's too bad that the game isn't avaliable for 3DS VC game.

If you're looking recommended VC games on the 3DS, I would recommend LoZ: Link's Awakening DX, Oracle(s) of ages and seasons which you probably need both if you want to continue through the story, and original if you haven't played the original game yet.

My advice is that you may want to go through around the eShop and see what games you want. The recommended games that we suggested should be fine (or ok) enough.

As for the 3DS apps (or wares), I may recommend getting pokemon bank and pokemon dream radar. With pokemon Bank, you can migrate your hard-to-find pokemon to your X/Y from your pokemon Black/White 1/2, but the pokemon you want to migrate has to be on the 1st box of pokemon storage PC and as well as depositing most of your pokemon that you don't want or need. For pokemon dream radar, you can get some pokemon with dream world (DW or HA in X/Y's case) abilities, but you're limited to some pokemon till you get tornadus, thundurus, and landorus to unlock more pokemon to get also if you have D/P/Pl/HG/SS, you can get legendary pokemon with their DW abilities. The pokemon's level is based on how many badges you have, natures and IVs are random so there are no promises on natures and IVs also the pokemon you have in your pokemon dream radar has to be B/W 2 only, not B/W 1 also you won't be able to find some pokemon that you can't get in pokemon dream world since the pokemon dream world has been taken off due to update at the pokemon-gl so you're left with using pokemon dream radar only.

I only play PC, however with the recent announcement of the Pokemon Hoenn remakes (I've been waiting for them for ages as Ruby is one of my favourite games of all time) I've recently been thinking about getting a 3DS. In short: are they worth it?

hoenn remakes i will pay 4739120753784503284593 dollars for an emerald one

and yes its worth it

I might as well make a list of the good to decent games on the console:

Adventure Time: Hey, Ice King, Why Did you Steal our Garbage!: A platformer/RPG heavily inspired by Zelda 2, really short, but it has good spritework/music and is very fun to play

Animal Crossing: New Leaf - You're the Mayor of a town and you... Just live in it. It's really slow paced and sedated but it has so much content it ends up being addictive anyway.

Bravely Default: Sorta like a throwback to the older Final Fantasy games. Haven't played but looks good.

Cave Story 3D: The best version of a utterly fantastic Indie game. However it's short and you have to cough up a lot for a pre owned copy so you might as well go for the cheaper Steam version.

Code of Princess: I know it got a nice reception but I don't know anything about it

Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D: Donkey Kong as directed by Michael Bay. Amazing but rather difficult

Etrian Oddessy IV: a dungeon crawler that is incredibly unforgiving. If you can pay attention to every possible outcome and are quick at marking out maps then you should have a lot of fun with this.

Fire Emblem: Awakening: A Strategy RPG where shipping is actually a major part of the gameplay. The most beginner friendly entry in the series.

Heroes of Ruin: A pretty Decent Diablo clone, relied heavily on multiplayer though and no one really plays it anymore.

Kid Icarus Uprising: Best game on 3DS imo, there is nothing about this game that isn't perfect, just play and bask in it's glory.

Kingdom Hearts 3D: Gameplay is fairly close to 1/2's and all the worlds are new. The Drop mechanic is really annoying though.

Kirby Triple Deluxe: It looks like Return to Dreamland with some dashes of Super Star.

Ocarina of Time 3D: Better controls/graphics and both normal/Master Quest make this the best version of what a lot of people consider the Best game of all time.

A Link Between Worlds: I know nothing about this game I'm not a Zelda fan but because it's arguably Nintendo's labour of love series I'll mention it anyway.

Luigi's Mansion 2: an Adventure/Puzzle game that takes some large departures from the original. Make of that what you will

Mario Kart 7: It's Mario Kart. Everyone loves Mario Kart. Gliding is cool too but water seems kinda pointless.

New Super Mario Bros 2: It's NSMB. Everyone loves NSMB... Right...?

Nintendogs + Cats - If you like cats this is cool I guess but the original was better imo.

Ace Attorney V - a Crime solving/Visual Novel game. Don't know much about it but it's very popular.

Pokemon X/Y - A lot has happened since Gen 3, lemme tell you that.

Layton games: Puzzle/Visual novel series. In my opinion they are actually really good.

Project X Zone - Capcom/Sega/Namco crossover. Gameplay is rather button mashy but it's very flashy. Namco x Capcom had a better cast though (This cast is literally just humans which leads to there being a LOT of characters that have no appeal outside of Japan, not even Sonic gets an appearance.)

Rythm Thief and the Emperor's Treasure: It has quite a dedicated following but I don't know much other than it's a series of rythm based minigames tied together with a story.

I'll finish this off later because jesus man this is big post

Hi! ^^

Before making a decision as big as this, you need to think of you pros and cons.

First off, there are 3 different versions of the Nintendo 3DS.

- The 2DS: A non-foldable version of the 3DS, that has the same screen size of the original 3DS, but of course, it's without the 3D feature. It still plays 3DS & regular DS games. It has one speaker, unlike the other versions that have 2, but this version of the handheld console is the cheapest of the 3 versions. The battery life is 3.5 to 5.5 hours. This version is also the only one of the 3 that does not have a "power saving" mode.

- The 3DS: Of course, the original version. The 3DS has a screen with a size of 3.52 inches (same as the 2DS). It folds nicely as well! The battery life is 3 to 5 hours.

- The 3DS version is my personal favorite and recommendation. The 3DS XL has a giant screen compared to the others with 4.88 inches! Also, the basic design has been modified, and has a smoother feel to it, unlike the glossy coat of the original 3DS that left fingerprints very easily. This version of the console also has a 3.5 to 5.5 hour battery life!

So, of these 3 versions, I personally think the 3DS XL is the best version to get of the 3. You get a bigger screen, better feel, longer battery life, power saving mode, optional 3D gameplay mode.

But that's my recommendation, it's up to you to pick which version you want! ^^

Now as for games, there weren't at first, but now there's a good handful of games out and coming out that you'll probably like!

Some of my favorites that I own, and are already out are:

- Star Fox 64 3D

- Kid Icarus: Uprising

- Pokemon X or Y

- Kirby: Triple Deluxe

- The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D

Now, I haven't played Sonic: Lost World, but I did play the demo. Which seemed a lot better than the Wii U version! So I plan to get it in the future.

As for games coming out, there's only a couple I can think of at the moment:

- Sonic Boom

- Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the 3DS (looks amazing, also has an extra feature than the Wii U version!)

If you're a fan of Zelda, there's also the sequel to "Link to the Past" for the 3DS, called "The Legend of Zelda: A Link between Worlds" which recieved an amazing review.

Just a few notes to help you decide whether you'd like to invest in one or not! Also, Nintendo has made a social media website-like application called "MiiVerse", where you can make a Nintendo Network ID (like a GamerTag for Xbox Live), and it's like a mini-forum where you can talk about the newest (and some old) games!

You can make Miis (virtual characters of yourself or friends), play music, and all sorts of other neat things! You can even take photos in 3D! (which is really cool, it may not make sense, but once you see it, you'll know it!)

I personally think you would like having a Nintendo 3DS, there are plenty of games out for it, and more to come! ^^

Also, here's a link to an IGN comparison chart of the 3 versions, which is basically like everything I just said, but in list form! ^^

I hope this helps you out on your decision! :D (\

Happy gaming! ^^ (\
