It's not a matter of reformed at this point. Small changes first (and in reality), the big change never happens overnight.

Discord won't betray their trust, after all, he really did get the "second chance" scenario and that comes a long way.  It's not often you get second chances, and if you ever do get them, it's more of reason not to betray that trust again.

Discord acting like a bit of an immature child god, sure that will likely still happen, I never saw that as something that would go away anyways. Maybe more over in time, but he won't betray the mane 6 at the very least.

Ever sense ''Keep Calm and Flutter On'' I was left with a daunting feeling that Discord was just reformed for the heck of it. That their was no big need for his power, it was just a way of getting rid of him as a villain. I was really conflicted on what aspect of Discord I liked more, his evil manipulative, chaotic side, or his softer side, and for the longest time, I had preferred the first side as that was the side of Discord I was introduced to, that was the reason Discord became my favorite character in the first place. And the fact that through out the entirely of Season 4, that non of the Mane 6 (other than Fluttershy) had been willing to give Discord a chance and I hardly felt they really cared about him at all. Honest had something happened to Discord or had he been taken away and thrown in Tartarus for some unknown reason, Fluttershy would have been the only one hurt from that ordeal, and the others would have felt relieved. Atleast this is the vibe I get when ever Discord interacts with Twilight and the others. Tirek even hinted at this when he first encountered Discord, by stating that his friendship was nothing more than a new form of imprisonment, and sadly Tirek was correct, as that is what it felt like and that could be a reason why Tirek had so easily persuaded Discord to join his side, because he felt Tirek would let him be himself and would not judge him based for it.

Another part that had me worried was the fact that before Tirek, there would have been no villain that could stand up to Discord and that he would have become the ''go to'' weapon now that the elements are gone. However when Tirek had grown powerful enough to drain Discord of his chaotic magic, I felt that it was a powerful moment because Discord was just officially dethroned as the most powerful character, and the fact their was a villain that could stand up to him, made that worry of him being overpowered fade away.

Discords betrayal was a great and powerful way of finalizing his reformation, by proving that he truly does want friendship and not just because he has to but because he wants it, as well as proving that the Mane 6 as a whole cares about him and was even willing to forgive him despite what he did. It would have been easy for Twilight to save her friends and leave Discord at the mercy of Tirek, yet she saved him.

The season final finally gave Discord that growth I have been longing for ever sense Season 3 and it felt natural too, I can now accept Discord as a good guy and even more so I can consider him a part of the Mane 6 or should I say Mane 7.  I can not wait for Season 5 and what they plan to do with Discords character, I hope they continue this trend and have Discord eventually become part of Twilights main circle of friends.

What do you all believe the future holds, and what are your hopes for Season 5 and beyond.

Debate.

Mine was:

 Not so fast! He's not even a pony! The "mane 6" will always be the "mane 6".

He can be friend with them, but I don't want him to become a main character who will always be with the 6 main ponies.

Do you think Discord has fully embraced the magic of friendship, or do you think he will betray the ponies again in season 5?

Discord is like a child, and can be manipulated very easily. He hasnn't fully been reborn, but I think he is doing good.

In season 4, he even wanted friendship with Tirec, showing that friendship was important, he wanted a equal partnership.

Because of this I believe he will become much more friendly (but hopefully) keep the spirit from like past episodes that made him our favorite villian.

I don't want him to be all lovey dovey, though I think that he has embraced the power of it greatly.

So, yes?

Harry Potter is the best.

I'm making a RP for it.

Good point!

I was told to move this here

There's a bonus in it: I can now brohoof your post again :D

Ever sense ''Keep Calm and Flutter On'' I was left with a daunting feeling that Discord was just reformed for the heck of it.

I'm with you on this one.

Although the way they did it was a psychological masterpiece, I still felt it a bit rushed and not justified enough. I considered it just the first step in the process of his reforming. An important step though: it was the moment where he understood that Friendship is something worth having (contrary to what he believed before). But this wasn't yet a full-blown reformation, because he had a huge wall of belief system to crumble first, all based on this one brick he has just replaced. Now the whole belief system is required to rebuild from this seed. But we've seen in the closing scenes that he's already reformed, and this was out of place there. So I knew he's bluffing ;) He is telling them whatever they want to hear, because he sees they like it and it has some benefits ;) It was a pure cold calculation, not full embrace of Magic of Friendship. (Especially that Friendship = Harmony >< Chaos, incompatible type of Magic).

I was really conflicted on what aspect of Discord I liked more, his evil manipulative, chaotic side, or his softer side, and for the longest time, I had preferred the first side as that was the side of Discord I was introduced to, that was the reason Discord became my favorite character in the first place.

Same with me. Discord = Disharmony (Chaos), and a bit of disharmony here and there is a good thing to introduce some contrast, which in turn introduces dynamism and action. Harmony is cool, but it can be a bit boring ;) Changes need motion, and motion needs some temporary imbalance to start. That's why I liked Discord as a villain: He introduced some imbalance into the perfect Harmony world, making some more serious action possible. An action we haven't seen much in previous episodes. It also raised the stakes and, using contrast, allowed the values of Friendship to stand out more, to be seen more easily by the viewers (all that moving scenes... mh...). Chaos is as much needed in Nature, as Harmony is (especially if it comes with chocolate rain :)).

And the fact that through out the entirely of Season 4, that non of the Mane 6 (other than Fluttershy) had been willing to give Discord a chance and I hardly felt they really cared about him at all.

And this was also a nice move, because this distrust of Mane Six was blocking Discord's full reformation for some time, making a sort of cliff-hanger from it. (Is he truly reformed? Or he's just tripping them?) Since they didn't trust him, he couldn't experience the full power of Friendship yet. This could make him doubt it. And this was great, because along with Discord, all Mane Six were reforming too! :> They needed to learn to be more tolerant and forgiving, and there was a whole season for them to achieve it, culminating so greatly in the season finale.

Discords betrayal was a great and powerful way of finalizing his reformation, by proving that he truly does want friendship and not just because he has to but because he wants it, as well as proving that the Mane 6 as a whole cares about him and was even willing to forgive him despite what he did.

Exactly.

Another part that had me worried was the fact that before Tirek, there would have been no villain that could stand up to Discord

Yeah, that was sad to see, how easily Discord, the Master of Chaos, have given up to Tirek. It was too easy. I was hoping that this is only another one of his tricks, to infiltrate the enemy lines, figure out what he's on to, and then crack it from the inside. But it turned out that it was Tirek who cracked Discord, as easily as taking a lollipop from a child.

But you know what? I blame it to Discord's moment of weakness, caused by his own mind. He didn't lose his power, just the clearness of mind and the ability to use it at full. His psychological conflict has limited himself to the point that he could be exploited. And I understand that this was actually a good thing and it was needed: it was another necessary step required for his transformation to happen. He wouldn't understand the full value of Friendship if he wouldn't have experienced it on his own. This first-hand (hoof? paw?) experience has shown him the exact causes of his bad choices (suffering of his friends and his own) and the power of forgiveness. I don't know if it completed his transformation yet, but surely it was a strong one, a point of no return, so to speak.

I felt that it was a powerful moment because Discord was just officially dethroned as the most powerful character

I wouldn't be so sure ;) What if he can now be even more powerful, when joining his Chaos Magic with Harmony Magic? I think it is more powerful to have a choice whether you introduce Chaos or Harmony. Now you have two options, not just one. And more options = more flexibility. He could lose a battle, but he won something more important. And his new power coming from it is yet to see (*cough* Season 5 *cough*) ;)

Cmon, you can't not regret what you did after you make Fluttershy cry. It just isn't possible! Plus, Discord's apologized at least twice, once to just Flutters and another time to the princesses. Tirek was manipulative and appealed to his desire--to cause chaos, but he got it in the end that disloyalty gets one no rewards, as Tirek betrayed him in turn. It's safe to say he likely won't be betraying anypony again. He'll still be a nuisance, of course, it's who he is, but Equestria isn't going to be in any mortal peril at his hands anymore.

Let Fluttercord sail on, ah yes.

One of the things I've come to appreciate in Season 4 is that Discord himself actually had a very subtle character arc over the course of the season. His own misadventures with friendship and trust culminated in the events of the finale, so all of the moments he appeared in prior episodes actually meant something. He wasn't truly a friend of anybody besides Fluttershy, and vice versa, until both sides finally understood what it meant in their respective darkest hours. Actually a really strong way to drive home the show's friendship morals, I think.

So Discords probably still going to be a troll, but I think he'll be depicted in a more positive light from now on.

He already stabbed them in the back once, I'm sure given the opportunity he'll do so again-as he is the Master of Chaos-and he's already shown that all he really needs is an incentive.

Plus, as evil as he was Tirek was correct in his observation that friendship was a new form of imprisonment-especially given the fact that Twilight was searching for a reformation spell to force him to behave before the book was eaten.

So in a sense his betrayal and any future betrayal would be justified given the fact the only Fluttershy truly wants to be his friend and the others just want to spread him from causing more chaos, if he and Fluttershy have a falling out he could quite easily return to his true nature once again.

Discord's original reformation wasn't disingenuous, I don't believe. Despite his acceptance of Fluttershy's affections and returning them, and not going about his old ways after Fluttershy made it clear that she wouldn't use her element against him (all of which were demonstrations of his new nature), everypony but Fluttershy continued to treat him with suspicion. He has a strange sense of humor befitting a creature born of chaos, but he's harmless, and the rest of the mane 6 repaid him with sardonic remarks and requests that he simply go away. They showed him no friendship, except for Fluttershy, so in his mind there was probably no betrayal in turning his back once more on Equestria. He was no more a jerk or opportunist than they were.

Discord had been loyal to the Mane 6 since the day of his reformation, even more so after they no longer possessed the Elements of Harmony with which to stop him, yet he was seldom repaid in kind. Only after Tirek had all of them trapped and began siphoning their power did Discord realize Fluttershy's sincerity. He was obviously pained by this.

Once they all lost their powers, I think it was sobering for all of them. From that point on they treated him as an equal, which is essential for a friendship. This didn't change after everything was restored to normal. Yeah, I'd say reformed Discord is here for good, now that he's being given a reason.

I think so. That was MUCH deeper and more satisfying than "Keep Calm and Flutter On", and with more impact. His actions in TK part 2 just scream "Reformed!"

...however, chances are good he'll still troll from time to time. He wouldn't be Discord if he didn't!

Discord is obviously reformed and I bet no one will doubt that after seeing Twilight's Kingdom. But I expect him to be a little mischievous by causing little trouble like the Blue Flu (not a real symptom, just made by Discord).

He is the Spirit of Disharmony and Chaos, there's bound to be a little mischief in him  :umad:

Spoiler alert if it wasn't obvious.

He was betrayed in the Season 4 finale, and therefor he felt the heartbreak that he had caused upon the Mane 6 themselves. Those lines that he told crying Fluttershy was repeated to him by caged Applejack, and I'm sure that's when he realized the pain that betrayal can cause. When Twilight took Discord back, even after betrayal, he felt honest friendship. If he has the opportunity to betray the ponies again, I'm sure he'll remember Tirek's deception and the very ponies that still valued his friendship.

TL;DR
He betrayed, was betrayed, knows how it feels, Princess Derpy for Alicorn 2014

After betraying the mane 6 and hurting Fluttershy, and getting betrayed himself, you bet your ass he's reformed. :squee: He's really learned what friendship actually means. Before he only really knew the basics of it.

I've seen this topic several times but haven't posted anything yet (strange for me not doing that with anything Discord related).

I think Discord is definitely reformed for good, mainly due to the fact that he provided The Last Key which was necessary to open the rainbow box. That isn't to say that he's not up for some more trolling in Equestria.
