  1. 1) If Remus killed Romulus, then the capital of Italy today would be "Rema". 2) I'd argue that an allied victory was assured, despite how bad everything looked, from the very start. Most historical events are the creation of broad patterns; if they didn't happen, eventually something else would. There have been a few big moments from antiquity that could have massively influenced society simply based on how far back they go. I've heard some say that, had the Greeks lost the Battle of Salamis in the 5th century BC, Western Civilization wouldn't exist. That's a bit extreme, but it's true that the West wouldn't have been as heavily based on Greece as it is today. Another possibility is the Battle of Chalons. If Attila had won, the Roman Empire would have fallen much faster and the ensuing anarchy would have been even crazier with Huns and dozens of smaller German tribes fighting for the pieces. The Dark Ages probably would've been darker and longer.
  2. Hmm, Well, Applejack is fiercely loyal to her family to the point of abandoning all other virtues. And Flash Sentry is...uh...yeah.
  3. A pony with bottles of what is likely booze as her CM? This can only mean one thing. Berry, go home. You're so drunk that you turned blue.
  4. But I'm up to 310 images downloaded in a single sitting and there's still moar. Firebolt has over 2000 in her collection, I believe. Let's say this: Who else has a cult that you would join? Twilightianity is clearly inferior.
  5. It's like TV Tropes but it fills up your computer. Currently my tabs in Chrome are too small to display the web page icon...
  6. I just found got into the Trixie section of DeviantArt. Help. Too many Trixies. Browser overloading with tabs. Each one I click on opens up 4-5 more good ones in the "more like this" section. It's exponential growth.
  7. Often true, but not here. http://mlpforums.com/topic/4030-everyponys-religion-and-why/page-60 This poll with 685 respondents found that 45% of members are Atheist/Agnostic and an additional 10% just don't care about religion (plus 1.6% "spiritual"), putting secular groups in the majority. ~33% are Christian, all sects combined. Hmm, depends on what we really mean by "popular". Not held by the majority- Yes. Disliked, frowned upon- No. Outside of the Deep South, Paganism tends to be accepted in the United States. And American, popular interpretations of Buddhism are at times more popular (second definition) than Christianity... Hate to say it, but atheists make up a plurality (highest percentage but still not a majority) on the internet. I've also found that Libertarianism is very popular, probably more popular than either party (speaking of which, distaste for the American political system is very common). The internet is also pro-drug legalization and is split down the middle on guns. The problem with this thread is that not many people have very unpopular opinions. Makes perfect sense; otherwise, why would they be "unpopular"?
  8. Human alphabets are ways to represent a spoken language with writing. In this alien universe you speak of, what does the spoken language (YOUR alphabet) represent? (Trixieism is the only thread on the forums where people get into arguments about theoretical linguistics.)
  9. Really? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alphabet "Alphabet" specifically refers to written characters that represent a spoken language. A flash of light could be part of an alphabet, but not a sound. And, of course, Trixie's name begins with the sound.
  10. Ha ha, funny story: Trixie's ACTUAL birth name is "*Sound of a magical aura* *Flash of light* тяixie Lulamoon". Which means you can worship her! Also means her parents were very weird.
  11. I'll assume you all know about the online photographs, cards, and design company? http://www.shutterfly.com Even more apt considering Fluttershy's short lived modelling career.
  12. I've always known Trixie is a romantic hero; I'm a fan of Romanticist art, hence the main reason why I like Trixie. But when I looked back over the Wikipedia page for the most famous kind of romantic hero, it struck me that Trixie is the textbook definition. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byronic_hero The Great and Byronic Trixie EDIT: It's also worth mentioning that a Byronic Hero is, probably over 90% of the time, male. Trixie is one of the first female Byronic Heroes in fiction, and probably the first in American fiction.
  13. The below post typed on a phone, so expect typos. Twilight is very good at following the explicit and implicit instructions of Celestia. She is highly intelligent and has received the world's best magical training. How is any of that remotely divine? With a name like "Twilightianity", you imply divinity. Trixieism is more of a philosophy with religionoid components. To a great extent, Trixie has done little; we've seen her for two episodes while Twilight gas appeared in dozens. I fill in the holes with the fandom's average views on Trixie. Why Trixieism? Permit me to use some philosophy: Equestria was founded on a set of ideals, namely the enshrinement of harmony and social order. This moral code was created out of the sufferings in the chaotic, war-filled, "natural" state of pony kind. This nature was thrown out and order became Equestria's fundamental objective. In the time of FIM, this mission has been fulfilled. Equestria has a level of social control Plato could only dream of (see my essay on Plato's Republic). But it comes at a tragic cost: The death of independence, unrestrained ambition, rebelliousness, and what Nietzsche called "will sur macht" (will to power). Equestria was so busy ensuring the survival of a society that it lost its meaning, value, and its very worthiness. Now, faced with this crisis of meaning, nature and Beauty are sought by many once more; they are found on the outskirts of society in the form of a stage magician, Trixie. She is the only pony in the show who openly challenges social morals (those of tge Mane 6); instead of kindness, humility, and genersoity, Trixie's values are ambition, independence, and will sur macht. Why do I use that German term so much? Because Nietzsche's example of will sur macht personified is Zarathustra, who (in Nietzsche's writing) wanders from town to town, living in nature, challenging the people, telling stories, and shattering illusions of values. The similarity is striking. Why is this pony the basis of our philosophy? Because Equestria is so much like Earth. We humans, too, struggle with the consequences of the battle for Order, how it kills natural nobility and Beauty. We find it again in Trixie. Morality is cyclical; too much freedom and chaos leads to order being valued; too much order leads to independence being valued. We Trixiests aren't "right" in our philosophy; it is just our answer to the problems of our time. And let's face it: Twilightianity is and always will be a joke religion. Trixieism is half-serious; of course the cult-like tone is tongue-in-cheek, but the adoration of Trixie as the best hope of ponykind is serious.
  14. Twilight is a Mary Sue. Being comically OCD is not a character flaw; a true Mary Sue actually has one or two insignificant, laughable flaws to make them funny. Rainbow Dash wasted her potential by obsessively caring about nothing but the Wonderbolts. Applejack was primarily designed as a marketing ploy towards American Southerners. Fanon personalities are often better thsn canon personalities. Fluttershy isn't a Mary Sue; instead, she may actually have some neurological problems. Spike's maturity level is above that of a child, meaning he really is a kind of slave. I may prefer Trixie never returning to a redemption episode. Canon recognition of "redemption" ruins her character, turning her into a Tsundere Mary Sue (those can exist, too). The morals to the episodes are not insightful life lessons; they're messages that Kindergarteners think are getting old.
  15. I never really felt like I needed to invest in big, over-ear headphones, so I have no experience with them. In terms of earbuds, I think Apple has simply blown away the competition with their new ones, the Earpods The range of sound is far better than any of the other cheap earbuds; the clarity and sound quality is also fantastic. Plus they look slightly different to distinguish themselves.
  16. PINE NUT BUTTER CRACKERS! We must make this happen. http://www.keeperofthehome.org/2011/06/how-to-make-nut-butter.html #Genius
  17. And what does physical power matter? If I built and rode around in a giant death robot, would I somehow be worthy of worship. Hell, Trixieism isn't a religion; it's more of a philosophy. There's nothing spiritual or godlike about her; we like her for what she represents. Socrates and Promotheus are both revered as saviors of humanity worthy of admiration; this is not because of "power" they were given by a pretty pony princess. I'll even venture that Prometheus' great deed isn't so much the fact that he stole fire, but that he was willing to defy the gods. Trixie is still the most powerful unicorn in Equestria, but that isn't all that important. What matters is her will to power, independence, and defiance of Equestrian society. Twilight is the loyal servant of the monarch; she hasn't really done or said anythong great. All she has is potential, but it remains unused going into Season 4. You dislike Trixie, but at least she's passionate and doing stuff. If you've got haters, you're doing it right.
  18. Are peanut butter crackers the new pinecones? And I was just preparing to eat some ): http://www.ehow.com/how_4965882_extract-pine-nuts.html
  19. Certainly, although back in early 2012 people were laughing about the insanity and cheesiness that would ensue if the writers doubled the number of Alicorns. So, 6? Not unthinkable. Hell, let's do 8! Or more!
  20. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvZwic5b_oM How does Twilight merit a religion? She's just the pretty princess in-training under the control of an actual god-like creature, Celestia. This would be like founding a political movement around Joe Biden.
  21. What exactly do you mean? The coronation of Twilight doesn't affect the nature of the struggle between them; Twilight remains the highly privileged but usually uninspired mage and an unconvincing leader while Trixie is down-on-her-luck but ambitious and is a natural leader despite not (yet) having anything to lead. Twilight's princesshood only increases the dichotomies.
  22. Brohoof. I wonder whether Trixie as GLaDOS could work...
  23. I used to be a fan of almost any music the fandom produced, then I took a reality set in and I realized that a lot of it was crap. Still, some is good. I'd recommend: *Mic the Microphone. He only has about 3-4 actually good songs, plus he can only do collabs, as he can't really compose his own music. I can forgive him, though, due to the excellence of "Beyond her Tomb" *Simgretina. I don't always listen to glitch, but when I do... *Sogreatandpowerful. Horribly underrated, is actually a pretty good musician. *Coconeru. Also underrated. He made multiple high-quality songs that got only 5,000-10,000 views. Then he made a low-quality animation of his OC dansing Gangnam style, which got over 500,000 views, an EqD feature, and features on multiple non-pony news websites. Sigh. *M_Pallante. The only true rock musician in the fandom. He has a large number of songs, some of which are very good. *Forest Rain. He has a fairly unique style, but he pulls it off. *Wooden Toaster. Most everything he makes is wonderful. *Yelling at Cats. My guilty pleasure of sorts. While he's been in a surprisingly high number of scandals, has pissed off a lot of people, and is kind of an immature brat, he's also a good rapper who, with some practice, could have a voice as good as Mic's. Also, Tsyolin only made two songs that I like, but one is so good it deserves a special notice. http://youtu.be/D6Jfctt1b8o
  24. As wonderful as the cup may be, it's still a cheap, mass-produced plastic product likely made in south-east Asia. Unfortunately, there isn't (yet?) much of a market for very high quality children's TV show paraphernalia. Bronies, we must change this!
