  1. Nations like Russia, China, North Korea, the bastions of freedom? So you're saying that, as you got older, you believed more and more that people should be less free, and controlled more by the government? I'm not sure what you're saying, so I don't want to put words in your mouth. The point is, socialism = control by government. I've heard many people from former soviet countries, and NOT ONE of them has ever said it was good under communism. Have you ever heard of anyone trying to sneak INTO a communist country? Communism means a few people at the top control everything. It is the exact opposite of freedom. Communism is packaged and sold to uneducated young people in colleges as some utopian idea that everyone will get along and be happy under some all powerful State. Philosophically, communism and socialism necessarily lead to the idea that people are expendable and the collective is all important. The sacrifice of one for the good of all. Consider this question: Is it moral to kill one person to cure all disease, even if that person doesn't want to be killed? From a freedom perspective, the answer is an obvious no. From an illogical, ignorant, communist perspective, the answer would be yes. That is the ultimate conclusion of communism. If you can justify stealing a loaf of bread from someone, then you can justify stealing two. You can always take away more freedoms, and control people more and more under the justification of "the greater good." So where does it end? Kill one person to harvest his organs to save 5? That would be the logical thing to do. So where does the human element come in? When is a human being a valuable entity, with a right to live?
  2. Nazism is socialism. They were called National Socialists. I find that people who are ignorant like to call themselves socialists. It's very trendy for young, dumb people to say that they "care" about everyone, and everyone should be "equal." So they think they are so enlightened by calling themselves socialists. The truth is, socialism and communism amount to slavery. In order for the government to give one person $1, it has to take $1 from someone else. It all comes down to stealing from one person to give to another. Stealing is wrong. Forcing people to do something they don't want to do is wrong. Where do you draw the line? From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs. Who determines this? If you have the ability to work 18 hours a day to provide for the collective, then the government can force you to do it. If all you need to survive is bread and water, and a single room apartment, then that's all you get. Socialism always has the elite who are very rich, with the mass of the people very poor. Slavery is the perfect model of socialism. The slave masters know best. The slaves are guaranteed food, housing, work, and care. Socialism makes people into expendable pawns. If you aren't pulling your weight then you are eliminated. I can guarantee that all you self described socialists would change your tune if you were forced to give up your luxuries to provide for the "common good."
  3. A couple examples: Futurama. Their space ship talked and had a male voice. Bender argued with it, but then they changed the voice to a female and suddenly Bender was in love with it. So having a female voice changed everything, and now it's attractive? In a Star Trek book, a human male is "dating" a creature that is basically a gas cloud, but the cloud walks around in a space suit shaped like a human, so that it can be on the ship. The suit had a female voice box. (There is also a TOS episode where a human falls in love with an energy creature.) The book says this alien even got an upgraded suit that looked more human. So you take any creature and give it a female voice, and somehow that makes it "female." Being attracted to Klingons or Vulcans etc. is a cheat, because those are very close to human in appearance (human actors in costume). There was a TNG episode where Riker fell in love with an androgynous alien, where the entire species was unisex. I was thinking, make that actor a burly male instead of a small female and see if Riker feels the same way. If you're going to say that being attracted to ponies is wrong, then you have to say the same about Vulcans and Klingons. Otherwise, where do you draw the line? 2 arms and 2 legs? Any distinction would be arbitrary. And can you separate love from sexual attraction? What if a person loved a pony, but non sexually? Does that make a difference?
  4. As I've said to people before about this, not only is it normal, it is very logical. True love cannot exist between two humans. Only lust can exist. Love is an abstract construct and can only be experienced in its purist form with another abstract construct. The love between a person and a perfect, fictional character is the only true love there is.
  5. Apple's interface sucks. I used an iMac at work and could never figure out how to do stuff with it. I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 as my personal phone and an iPhone 5 as my work phone. I can do a lot more with my Android, such as plugging it into a computer and getting files off of it!!!! Or, here's an idea for Apple: How about being able to put a memory card into the phone. Or change the battery. Or browse the files. I hate Apple's products.
  6. Bad grammar grinds my gears more "then" anything else. Making typos is forgivable. But not even knowing the words at all is unforgivable. If you were raised in an English speaking country and went to school, then there is no excuse for not knowing how to write. Know the difference amongst: your, you're, yore then, than their, there alot (not a word), allot, a lot (as was mentioned in the first post) too, to its, it's I also forgive short cuts in text messaging, because it is hard to type on a phone, bc its hrd 4 u 2 type on a phone n the msgs r meant 2 b short. Fine. But if you have a keyboard then have the courtesy to write out your words. I also hate the use of numbers in place of words. I have seen signs on cars "4 sale". What does that mean? Is there a 3 sale and a 5 sale? Or "Left 4 Dead." What an odd title. Is that because there are four characters in the game? Then shouldn't the game be called "Left 4 Alive"? Or how about: 20 items or less. Or less what? Is that like "20 items or else?" I assume they mean: 20 or fewer items.
  7. I think you misunderstand. In round 2 there are the 2 doors that you did not pick. One or both are losers. If you happened to pick the winning door in round 1 then the other 2 are losers. The host opens one. If you picked a loser in 1 then then of the remaining 2, the host must open the loser, leaving the last the winner. By picking a loser in round 1 you force the host to open the other loser leaving the winner.. If you choose to keep your first pick then your odds of winning are 1/3. If you switch your odds of winning are 2/3.
  8. Here is a math puzzle. You are a contestant on a game show. Here are the rules: There are 3 doors. Behind 1 of the doors is a prize. There is nothing behind the other 2. In round one you can choose a door, but do not open it. Then the host will open one of the OTHER doors that you did not choose. However, the host must open a losing door, not the winning door. After he opens one of the losing doors you have the option to keep the door you picked (which you haven't opened yet), or switch to the other closed door (the one the host did not open). The question is, what is the probability of winning if you keep your first choice, and what is the probability of winning if you switch in round two?
  9. A fried egg. As for the apples, you can cut one apple into 17 pieces. Or just eat one and hand the rest out. And here are some characters to get passed 100.
  10. That can't possibly be literally the dumbest thing you've ever heard. Misuse of the word "literally" is ignorant. It just turns out that all the metal I like is from Europe or Brazil. It's not like I specifically boycott American bands. I admitted I was being cynical when I said a person has no taste if they select random songs from bands. It's similar to liking random episodes of a TV show without liking the rest of the show. It indicates to me that the band isn't good. It's easy to make a good song out of every 20. But try making consistently good songs. That takes real talent.
  11. But Flim and Flam did not have apples. That is the flaw. Applejack gave them the apples for the contest. If she hadn't done that, then they would not have been able to even make the cider. They can't sell cider if they can't make it. Besides, if they made good cider then they deserve to sell it. Applejack couldn't make cider fast enough, but Flim and Flam could, but they didn't have the apples to do it. Applejack could have sold raw apples to Flim and Flam. They would sell the cider at a mark up. Applejack might have made more money, per barrel of cider, by making the cider herself rather than selling apples to Flim and Flam But she makes up for it in volume. It would have been a win for everypony: Applejack sells all the apples, and Flim and Flam make enough cider for everypony. That's how things work in the real world.
  12. Something I didn't understand about that episode. Why did Applejack agree to a contest where she could lose her farm? She had nothing to gain by agreeing to the challenge. It's a huge plot hole. She even gave them the apples to do it. She should have told Flim and Flam to try to sell their cider and let the town decide which to buy. Flim and Flam are not bad. They didn't steal. You can argue that it was dishonest of them to allow the bad apples in. But was that a violation of any agreement? In any case, shows like to bring back characters because it saves work. It's easier to use existing characters. They could show up with some new contraption to sell to the town. Maybe a twist could be that their product actually works, and one of the mane six doesn't trust them and tries to "expose them." The lesson is that you can't accuse someone of something without proof.
  13. I used to listen to crappy classic rock until I discovered fantasy metal from Europe. Now I can't even listen to crappy American music. If a band can make only a couple of good songs then they aren't worth supporting. I will not buy an mp3. I will buy only CDs. I like all of the songs from the bands I like. Nothing can compare to epic fantasy metal. I like collecting CDs. I will buy different versions of an album to collect. I have some rare ones. It really annoys me when people have just a couple of good songs from a band. I hate it when people say they "listen to anything." I know it's very cynical of me to say it, but if you "listen to anything" then you have no taste.
  14. I got a sqrt(7) e^(0.3 pi i) cos(t). "You are quite transparent to others, in the literal sense. You appear as an apparition of a late 18th century homesteader. You haunt old farm houses in upper New England. Some say you are searching for your dead wife, while others claim you were killed by a bear while hunting. In either case, a steady stream of ghost hunters and tourists visit your old farm in the hopes of getting a glimpse of your form as it passes through the bedroom door." What a crock, they make results that can apply to anyone.
  15. I've been to only a few concerts, because I hate most American bands and the bands I like don't tour much in the US. I saw Dragonforce in Chicago. They were with a couple other bands that I didn't know and I did not like their music. When Dragonforce came on, some asshole behind me kept yelling "you suck" at them. It's not the worst thing that could happen, but it was annoying. I saw GWAR a few times. They always put on a great show, if you're into getting sprayed with fake blood. I did that a couple times, but the other times I saw them I stayed in the back so I wouldn't get sprayed. Oderus doesn't even enunciate the words usually. Most of his singing is just him yelling "bah bah bah" and even when I know the song I can't understand him. Still, their shows crack me up.
  16. If you are making a MLP comic that is "completely different," then maybe you should make your own setting. If you want it set in the MLP world, then maybe you should make it consistent with the canon. I don't know what you mean by different. On the one hand, setting it in an existing world saves you work because back story is already there. But on the other hand, you are constrained by that same back story. If you are doing an alternate MLP, then that could confuse people, because they don't know how your setting matches up with the existing world. It's just my own tastes, but I would say either make it consistent with MLP world, or do a totally unique, non pony world. As for writing tips, use styles from comics that you like. It's okay for something to be derivative. I think the best stories are ones that you yourself want to see. Unless your tastes in comics suck, haha. Outline the story arcs and plot points and figure out how you want to get from point A to point Z. Then let things evolve organically. Then again, I never wrote a comic, so what do I know?
  17. That might be an inherent problem with the show. It has to be cute and funny because its target audience is, ostensibly, young girls. But characters like the changlings and Sombra give the show action and adventure elements. The ponies actually fought the changlings, which was fairly violent considering how episodes usually go. I would love to see longer story arcs, grittier stories, and more action. But I doubt we will ever see that. A spinoff would be cool. I would love to see an epic adventures series set in MLP world.
  18. It's weird how they would even make different intros. The problem with the Japanese version is there are no giant robots. I actually like the Italian version. Does anyone have a translation? I assume the lyrics are different.
  19. "I need them because I don't have them." Her reasoning is flawless. I was much older when I understood the validity of that concept.
  20. I liked the Star Trek reference in 10. Hint: It's from the original series. Who can name the episode? I wonder what Spock and Kirk's cutie marks would be.
  21. They are fun, but there are parts that are too annoying. I played San Andreas and IV and I hate the parts where you have to answer the phone and do stuff with your friends and associates. Like in IV you have to take your cousin, and your gf, and your friend out to dinner or whatever. These side missions serve no purpose for the plot and they aren't fun. It would be okay if it were optional, but you have to keep the people happy, which has no affect on the plot, as far as I could tell. There is a point where the game gets too realistic.
  22. Because you wash your feet in pickle brine. What function describes the distribution of the prime numbers?
  23. I don't dislike any character, but at the same time I don't really rank them either. I love Rarity's drama and how she is so particular. I met Tabitha St. Germain at Bronycan. She is super nice and funny. I was waiting to get her autograph, she had to get up for something and she smiled at me and rubbed my arms. It was weird but nice to see how she has fun with the fans.
  24. My toast? What about my toast? Rainbow Dash: A flame thrower. Twilight Sparkle: M4 with night vision and all teched out. Applejack: Sawed off double barrel shot gun. Fluttershy: A suppressed 9mm of some kind. Rarity: A pearl handled Deringer. Mostly for show. Pinkie Pie: Claymores filled with confetti.
