One thing I'd like to point out immediately is that you have to keep in mind how emotional Rarity is - she was really emotional throughout this whole episode, and emotions will often cloud your better judgement in scenarios like the one in "Simple Ways." She was in emotional distress throughout the episode, and even mares like AJ and Twilight haven't responded well to emotional stress in the past ("Lesson Zero" and "The Last Roundup," respectively) and they're the two most level-headed of the mane 6. You can't hold that against her or her portrayal in the long run, because you saw how affected she was by this.

She was in pain, man. She was in emotional pain, and to be a good analyst you can't look at things from an exclusively writing standpoint, you've got to put yourself into the show and call it as well - and it was easy to see that she was in a lot of emotional pain this episode. It wasn't "Out of character," she was just hurting.

Just something that bothered me out of an otherwise okay review. I think you need to rewatch this episode a few times and look at different perspectives on it, myself, because I find this review to be lacking in several things - you didn't go into Trenderhoof's behavior, and that was something that I, the reader, deemed the most glaring flaw in this episode, nor did you go much into anything outside of Rarity and how you felt she was portrayed out of character, which I honestly disagree with, as stated above.

You can post this, but my personal opinions on the episode weren't swayed in anyway whatsoever, and most of the points you made weren't made in a manner to make anyone see the episode in a different light, I'm sorry to say.

Overall, I'd give it a 2/5 - while you put effort into it, that much is obvious, I feel you missed out on several things and focused too much on one aspect of the episode, which is why I recommend rewatching it and attempting to view it from different angles.

Well, there is the fact it's usually AJ and Rarity being the butt of the jokes like this due to their historically small fanbases in comparison to the other members of the mane 6. It really just comes across as picking on the little guy - because I don't see any jokes like this about RD or Fluttershy, both of which have historically large fanbases.

That's the only real problem I have with it - other than that, I also think a joke should contain a little humor of sorts, whether it be shock humor or dirty humor or something - and I really can't see how that joke is considered to have any sense of humor

When you take all of the stuff I said about the possibility as to why people get upset with it, it still isn't a very good joke.

It's like "Hey, lol, Fluttershy is an earth pony because she doesn't fly very much." 

It's...yeahh If I was a stand-up comic telling these jokes to fellow bronies, I'd get booed off the stage - not because I was insulting ponies, but because my jokes really wouldn't very good.

Personally, I've never even seen how that joke was funny. Not as in I was offended by it or it was lacking in taste, it just isn't really that humorous in general. Kind of a dumb joke, if you ask me - like knock knock jokes and what not.

Bleh. The internet has plenty of people who don't really amount to much in real life, so they can get on the internet and make all sorts of tasteless jokes and insult people and look all edgy and cool from behind the protection of a computer monitor. I find it to be sad, personally. I feel sorry for the people like that  

That's my guess on this, at least - it's just people trying to look edgy by insulting AJ. It's sad.

 

 

No, the puppeteer is correct. Rarity needs to pay more attention to functionality with her projects.

I'd just like to point out that while he was correct, there was absolutely no need to verbally abuse and belittle her the way he did. No excuse for that.

That's something most people get when they start playing, actually. Best bet is to tough it out and hope you don't pop it, and when it goes away, you're finger will be tougher

I get email transcripts of my PMs sent to me to read at my leisure throughout the day from my phone. By the time I'm able to sit down, I already have responses formulated in my mind which helps me to whittle them down quicker. Might that help you out too?

My e-mail account has been gathering dust for ages I only use it to sign up for sites. I have 30,000 ish unread in there, I think. I had the PM Preview feature turned on in an attempt to help that out, but it didn't make a long-term difference.
