  1. Working on a dramatic reading of a fan fiction. :D

  2. Mario Kart 8 has a new 200 CC mode. It. Is. INSANE.

  3. I reckon it'll stick around for a while, maybe a few decades, before it eventually fizzles out—before it passes out of living memory and people stop watching reruns.
  4. Absolutely. Prison? I don't think so. Aside from the damage to the weather factory, it didn't end up being all that bad; winter just arrived a bit more forcefully than usual. But it could have been much, much worse, and she needs to know that kind of behavior isn't acceptable.
  5. Two words: Steam Punk No need to go way overboard on it (especially if you're going for a formal look), but a little bit of old-fashioned goes a long way.
  6. Hello people! I'm creating an online portfolio, and I got a professional photoshoot to get some photos for it. But alas, in the photo with my favorite pose, I look like I'm scowling (because that's how I smile with a closed mouth). There's another photo from the same angle at the same spot, though, where I have a much more smiley smile, but it's a closeup, and I want the farther out shot. So here's my request: could someone photoshop the better smile onto the full upper body shot?
  7. Forgive my unclarity, but I wasn't trying to ask about what heaven and hell really and truly are; rather, I was trying to get to and understanding of what you personally believe about them.
  8. Well it's entirely possible (by which I mean probable) that I misunderstood, but you said When you say what heaven and hell “really are,” that implies that every alternative is not what they are. That may not have been your intention, but that's what was implicit in the way you put it.
  9. I'm sorry. Forgive me for my presumptuousness. Where will he get his justice, then, if heaven and hell are not real places but states of mind?
  10. Nope, just looking for an answer. You say pretty confidently that the killer absolutely will get his justice one way or another (I'm assuming you mean in this life), but what about the killer who doesn't?
  11. What if the killer doesn't get his justice one way or the other? What if he spends his entire life, until the moment he dies, joyful and at peace with his sins, never once showing remorse, never getting caught, never getting his comeuppance (so to speak)?
  12. What about the man who does his best, works his hardest, loves his wife but never manages to provide enough, and she has an affair and leaves him and takes half of what little he has in the divorce? Or what about the sadistic serial killer who never gets caught, who lives his entire life gleefully slaughtering, raping, and torturing for the sheer pleasure of it? And I don't ask to be condescending. I'm earnestly interested to hear what you have to say.
  13. That's a good point, if you already blindly assume on faith that what happens is by chance.
  14. Because everything I've ever learned or witnessed is consistent with what the Bible teaches.
  15. What's this? Highlightable text in a Homestar Runner animation? Absurd!
  16. Well, that's gonna be one point on which you and I differ. I want no "spirituality" whatsoever but that which I find in my King. And if I went back and started training again, and my Sensei did start teaching the "spiritual" side of it, I'd leave. Anything from which unBiblical "spirituality" cannot be separated, I want no part in.
  17. Well personally, my Sensei wasn't teaching anything spiritual along with the martial arts. In fact, I distinctly remember him going out of his way not to bring religion or spirituality into his dojo: at the beginning and end of each class, we would kneel in a specific way for a brief moment of reflection, with our hands out in front of us, but he told us not to bring our heads down to touch our hands as that would bring religion into it. I liked that about him. Aach, I just fear online wouldn't be the same. Which is probably just because I'm quite attached to my Sensei. He's a great man, and he actually trained directly under Shogo Kuniba Soke, who (at least according to my Sensei) was one of the highest ranked martial artists in Japan before he moved to the-middle-of-nowhere Keezletown, VA.
  18. I studied for a while, a system of traditional Japanese mixed martial arts comprised primarily of karate and jiu-jitsu. I'd love to pick it up again, but college made it tough to keep up (and to pay).
  19. Indeed, if we compare their abilities to various mythical "gods," some similarities could be drawn. But I tend to think that divinity is not made in traits or abilities, but rather that the traits and abilities result from divinity. At least, mythologically speaking. Although I suppose I could say the same about God: it's not as though He's divine because He's all-powerful, rather that He is all-powerful because He is divine. By which reasoning, I could also go on to challenge the alleged divinity of mythological gods, since in general, they aren't really all-powerful; with a great deal of technological advancement, many of their abilities could be replicated by humans. So they'd not really be divine, simply extraordinary creatures. Which is really a more accurate description of how they're portrayed anyway. But of course, that's all based on the presupposition that divinity doesn't result from ability but rather grants it, so to speak. And at this point I'm just rambling, so I'm'a stop now.
  20. I'm with you there. I would be considerably less comfortable watching the show if they were canonized as deities, or explicitly worshiped. Personally, though, I tend to think they're simply royalty, and have been around longer than any of the citizens of Equestria. So while they're not gods, and I don't think the ponies regard them as such, they are certainly wise and powerful and well to be respected.
  21. Maud Pie, all the way. Her entire episode was just deadpan humor, which I find hilarious.
  22. It's almost been a year, and I still can't get over how deep some of the lyrics to You'll Play Your Part are.

  23. I just watched this documentary for class today, about a guy who goes a month depending on Craigslist for all his needs—food, shelter, company, everything. His purpose was to find out whether or not we've really lost a sense of community with the rise of technology and social media and such. I found it really inspiring. What do y'all think of the idea? Any of you seen the movie? It's available to stream on Netflix, if anyone's interested.
  24. Happy Lord's Day, folks! He is risen!
