  1. Nothing made me a brony. I chose that path for myself. As for the reason: good animation, relatable characters, interesting stories, and clean.
  2. Not at all. While not all Christians would know to put it in such terms, there are two different types of "law" in Scripture: the Moral Law, which is absolute and unchanging; and other laws, the term for which I can never recall, which are given to specific peoples at specific times. The Moral Law is absolute and unchanging because it is tied to God's very nature, which is itself absolute and unchanging. A fairly good rule of thumb is that if it is directly related to one of the Ten Commandments, it's probably Moral Law. Other laws, such as the prohibition of eating certain foods or wearing certain fabrics, were given to the people of Israel at that specific time. It's hard to say for what reason God gave such laws—perhaps because certain animals were more likely to carry disease at the time, perhaps to set His chosen people apart from the surrounding pagan nations, perhaps for any number of other reasons—but the point is that such laws do not inherently reflect His nature. It was still sin for the Israelites to break such laws, not because it was immoral in and of itself, but because it meant disobeying the command of God. To break a Moral Law (to worship an idol, for instance) is immoral in and of itself. In short, no, Christians (at least legitimate Christians) don't ignore parts of the Bible in favor of others. In fact, it's because we take Scripture as a whole that we see no need to follow the non-moral laws of the Old Testament.
  3. Forgive me if I explained my point poorly. I do that a lot. I'm not saying that it's wrong to think Jesus said good things without regarding Him as the Lord; rather, I'm saying that it's foolish to regard His teachings as good because He taught them, and yet to deny His Lordship. In the midst of decades of nonsensical babbling, someone clinically insane could certainly happen to say some things that seem agreeable, and a pathological liar may from time to time accidentally speak what seem to be deep truths, but to regard either as a good moral teacher because of this seems foolish to me. If one denies the Lordship of Jesus, he may certainly concede that He said and taught many agreeable things, but in my opinion, he must also concede that these teachings arose by chance from a madman or a liar, not as the wisdom of a "good moral teacher."
  4. Night is now falling. So ends this day.

  5. I vote NO on Proposition Number This. Much as I enjoy adorable, pastel-colored ponies, they are pure fiction. Education should be grounded in reality, not fantasy.
  6. Was the show any good? Yes. Yes it was. And then some.
  7. I think C.S. Lewis said it well: If people happen to agree with certain things Jesus said, cool. But to consider Him, as portrayed in the Bible, as a good moral teacher but deny that He was truly the Son of God is nonsense. He may have happened to say some agreeable things, but to deliberately follow His moral teachings while denying His being God is roughly equivalent to following the moral teachings of someone clinically insane, or of a pathological liar.
  8. Figured I might as well start a discussion thread for the MMO Firefly game that's currently being produced. It's bringing back the original actors from the show for voice acting, and it looks like it'll be a pretty cool game!
  9. Being a devout Christian, I do indeed refer to Scripture. Quite frequently, in fact! I will say, though—and I mean no offense by this—that it seems a bit foolish in my opinion to take a religious text such as the Bible, which is meant to be considered as a whole, and knowingly draw ideology from parts of it while ignoring the rest. If you happen to believe something that's similar to what part of it teaches, well that's different. But it just seems silly to take one part of it as the source of your belief or ideology, when anything less than all of it is incomplete. As I see it, no single ideology within the Bible can stand on its own without the rest of the Bible. That's what I think, anyway.
  10. There's only 1 thing 2 do, 3 words 4 you....

  11. For that matter, even "pro-life" and "pro-choice" are rather antagonizing. "Pro-life" makes it sound like anyone who supports abortion wants to kill people, while "pro-choice" makes it sound like anyone who opposes abortion wants to take people's free will.
  12. Ooh, the idea of "science vs. religion," as if the two were mutually exclusive and all religious people were Neanderthals. "I was born this way," in reference to pretty much anything but race, sex, or certain physical features. Your genetics don't decide your behavior or lifestyle, you do. Referring to contraceptives and abortion as "women's health." It makes it sound like pregnancy and children are a disease, and it sends the message that anyone pro-life wants women to be unhealthy.
  13. "Idiocracy." It's little more than a term arrogant people use to describe any political view other than their own.
  14. I got a girlfriend two days ago! :D :D :D We met on Facebook back in late August because we're both Reformed Presbyterians and she was Facebook friends with a few folks at my church, and I finally went down to meet her and her family on the 24th. And on the 30th, with her parents' permission, we officially started courting.
  15. Really? Not one single comment or brohoof on my Firefly reference? Man, I figured there'd be more Browncoats 'round here. Anyway, my best friend once wanted to have Cheerios but didn't have any milk, so he used Dr. Pepper instead. He quickly regretted that decision.
  16. Heh, I was playing a game the other day, and someone mistyped Wukong as "Wuknog." So of course, I responded, "Mm, I love me some Wuk Nog this time of year." I chuckled at my own wittiness.
  17. Does anyone else think Black Gryph0n sounds a lot like Owl City?

    1. Doc Monochrome

      Doc Monochrome

      Hmmm.....a liiittle...a little more 80's-ish though honestly.

  19. I can't sleep, due to a chronic case of consciousness.

  20. Loooooong johns! Top and bottom! Unless it's really warm, in which case usually just boxers and a t-shirt. Unless it's really really warm, in which case just boxers.
  21. First!!!!!!1!!1 I'm curious, though: what's the study for? Anything in particular?
  22. @@Throngdorr Mighty, Aha! I may be of more service to your quest after all! As it so happens, I run a small inn on the outskirts of the village. Alas, it is nowhere near as luxurious as the Barking Cock, but I would be more than willing to provide you with accommodations for the as long as necessary. Of course, it is a business, so I could not simply give you the room for free. I normally charge 50 quid per night, but for a noble sire such as yourself, I could certainly bring it down to 45.
  23. Good Throngdorr, I may have information pertinent to your search! I was out strolling the other night and happened to hear a commotion coming from within the Inn of the Barking Cock, whereupon I witnessed a blue, shadowy figure streaking out the back, in the direction of the docks. Alas, that's all I know, but I shall most certainly pass on to you any information I find!
  24. I think there's certainly some validity to the point—Nintendo has certainly made quite a few "New Super Mario Bros." games—but I think where they differ from Sony and Microsoft is that they do a good job finding a balance between new-and-inovative and old-but-gold.
