Is Starlight Glimmer more powerful than Twilight?
user1342342 replied to Azureth's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion

I doubt this will happen, even though I'd like to see it. Remember, this is My Little Pony: Pave the Road to Twilight's Ultimate Destiny, the others are just there to help her reach that. They get some perks being her friend and all, but that's just it, they remain underlings who are vastly below her, despite being just as important. I wish they would just ditch Twilight, have her become Celestia 2.0 or whatever and shift the focus to different characters.

spoiler What if for a major plot twist of Starlight Glimmer...
user1342342 replied to Singe's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Why present the issue in a way that makes us have to choose? Why couldn't both happen? People still need to pay for their crimes, be it through jail or some other form of punishment. Society doesn't accept evil deeds, we remove people like that and punish them. The fact that Starlight was rewarded with friends instead of being rightfully punished is reprehensible. Other characters on the show received far greater punishments for crimes not even remotely comparable to what Starlight did, the double standards are more than apparent. Why not reform Tirek then? No punishment for him, hugs all around! It's baffling how people like you can just accept this shit. Poor people are no exception. While crime is more likely to happen in poor neighborhoods, the people that commit them are entirely responsible for the crime, and should be punished on a scale of how severe the crime was. -

What Do You Dislike About MLP?
user1342342 replied to Flutterstep's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
It bothered me how the world was shown to be terrible, or dead without them, like nobody else could have possibly saved it but them. The comics had the decency to show a different set of characters that could have done it. The show makes it clear that Twilight was destined for the absurdly amazing life she has, her cutie mark is even on important artifacts to remind us of how special she is. The princesses sing a song about it, and they give us a speech glorifying Twilight, it was her destiny. Twilight didn't work for everything she has, she sat on her ass getting friendship lessons while reading in her free library home with her servant, while her friends actually work to make a living. They also played a role, Twilight would have failed without them and vise versa, they were all meant to be a piece of the whole. They made the efforts and accomplishments of the mane six into Twilight's own personal achievement, and she receives godhood. I doubt her friends will ever receive anything even remotely close to what Twilight has, it's not their destiny to be great. Upon retrospect, the show reminds me of why I hate this concept so much. I don't root for Twilight to win, because she already has. -

Agreed. The whole concept of destiny is flat out stupid, and insulting. The universe doesn't owe anyone any kind of life, we make our own path. Twilight is the worst example of this destiny crap, she's basically won life. Her achievements and status would be nothing without her friends, because you know, friendship is magic, yet she's given even more than what she already has, way more than what she needs, while her friends get zilch. I mean seriously, Twilight gets a flipping castle, while AJ is still working hard on the farm. The show is constantly reminding us how amazingly special Twilight is, and how her destiny will only keep making it greater. I can't help but feel bad for the pony that ends up with a toilet cutie mark. -

Screw it, I'll just leave this quote here. The mod deleted it in my previous discussion, and It's best suited for here anyway. "The episode was a mess. One of the earlier interviews with Thiesen on EqD, and I believe a reddit AMA, had him say that the original script / layout had to be hacked down and it stuck with him over how much overtime they had to do to make the episode make sense. In the end, they still fucked up; they accelerated the initial reason for "conflict" so fast/poorly that they made 3 of the M6 look like petty hecklers and gave valid reasons for Trixie to act out on them. They were front row audience of a free show and were making a fuss about it from second zero, before any callouts; nobody that isn’t a jerkass does something like, but the M6 were made to act that way so Trixie would start her challenges. At that point they’re hecklers, and as anyone that’s seen standup comedy knows, hecklers get humiliated and used to entertain the rest of the audience; of course, making the M6 feel bad is a mortal sin for most of the fandom, as we all know from the way people flipped over Gilda making Fluttershy cry. The merit of how she treated the challenges is contestable, but as far as I’m concerned was fair given the circumstances; AJ made a point of being so much better and used some rope tricks, Trixie used rope tricks on her and put her down a peg; RD got aggressive and used her flight to control the weather, Trixie used magic to control the weather and give her a shock (the same terrible shock, mind you, that Dash uses to "terrorize" innocent bystanders in Nightmare Night, so hush you with any claims she was assaulted); RY called out her style and looks and trashed Trixie’s stage to make herself look better with magic, Trixie user her magic to trash Rarity’s mane to have her look worse. She was challenged with shows of rope use, weather control, and object transformation, and she proved she was better at those things, put some hecklers in their place, and got cheers from the public. If this had been a M6 character putting on the show in front of a hostile audience, we’d be expected to cheer for them; but it’s not, the show’s always had a clear double standard when dealing with what the M6 can do and what other characters can do. Trixie fucked up by lying about a fantastical event only idiot children or yokels would take seriously in the one town populated by idiot children and yokels that lied on the border of The Forbidden Forest; but the aesop didn’t deal with lies or boasting. RD, AJ, and RY fucked up by heckling a performer during their act and having as big of an as her; but the aesop didn’t deal with not harassing artists or biting down your tongue over pride. The wonderdolts and Spike fucked up by taking the show too seriously, putting their idols on mile-high pedestals, and fighting over them; but the aesop wasn’t about the dangers of fanboyism. In the end the aesop as about how you should feel OK to prove you’re good at something if you think you’re good at something; it was all about Twilight. And the aftermath was Trixie losing her home, her possesions, her job, and her pride, the wonderdolts getting prized with moustaches, Twilight becoming the town hero and Best Pony That Ever Lived, again, and some random pony having to retile their roof. Oh, and showing that Dash was more than willing to physically beat up Trixie. But let’s just ignore that part lest we spark a debate on all of Dash’s deep faults and how we’re expected to see them as charming character traits…"

Have you grown to like the new Starlight Glimmer?
user1342342 replied to cybershocker455's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Starlight did far worse than Trixie without being influenced by an evil artifact, she was offered friendship and forgiveness. The main characters treated Trixie like garbage before magical duel, right at the start of it when she arrives to ponyville again, and in the new episode where Twilight doesn't want anything to do with her, and attempts to make Starlight ditch her. The fact is, Twilight forgave her, and now it's like that didn't even happen. So in the new ep, she's putting on an apology tour just to get acceptance from everyone, but Starlight is quickly forgiven for everything she's done.- 88 replies

Have you grown to like the new Starlight Glimmer?
user1342342 replied to cybershocker455's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Trixie was wrote by various writers. The first one I don't think works on the show anymore. I do like the theory though, It might explain why she was treated like a piece of garbage. Maybe one of the writers did have a massive bias. Either way, that's a rotten, ugly message for children. This show is about friendship, so what the fuck Twilight? Why writers?- 88 replies

That ep was completely bullshit. Twilight knew that Trixie needed a friend, something she's apparently never had before. Instead, she spends the whole time trying to separate them, and eventually gets Trixie mad to the point where she says something that she clearly didn't mean. The two were becoming good friends before she even knew that Starlight had a connection to Twilight. The writers actually had the audacity to make Twilight dislike Trixie, try to get rid of her only ever friend, and then make her try to commit suicide. I can't even...- 88 replies

They treat my favorite character as the scum of the earth for being minorly antagonistic. Make her life revolve around apologizing and gaining acceptance, and then make her try to commit suicide. Then, Starlight comes along and is completly forgiven for her horrible crimes, accepted by everyone, and offered friendship lessons in Twilight's castle. Fuck you show. I absolutely can never accept this.- 88 replies

Fuck this episode, plain and simple. It's an insult to the show's core message. Instead of trying to make things right with Trixie, they provoke her, and continue talking down to her right in front of her destroyed home. Then Twilight's friend tries to beat her up, despite Trixie being the only other one who attempted to stop the giant monster. The next episode, magic duel, has everyone treating Trixie like she's the scum of the earth, and we learn that her life was reduced to nothing but misery. The third episode, Twilight was being callous, uncaring, and hypocritical in regards to Trixie. Comparing her treatment to what Starlight received highlights how much bullshit this show likes to spew in your face while insulting your intelligence. This character was handled horribly, every episode she was in.
