  1. With the DBZ-esque-ness of the S4 finale this should totally happen. And whilst all the others are searching for the Harmony Balls we see Fluttershy in Other Field having to go along a really, really, really long road...for ages. Seriously though, I would cry and then be like "wtf was that?!" I don't think they'll ever have any pony die within the show, let alone one of the mane 6.
  2. I don't believe humans exist in Equestria, or the other lands surrounding it on their planet. The planet that Equestria is on exists in an entirely different universe to humans, or at least a separate part of the same universe. Bringing humans into the show would kill it. For one thing the human character would likely be some really annoying kid, then everything would have to revolve around them and all the other characters would think of them as really special because they're human. The show as it is is a really refreshing departure from shows from the 80s where a human character surrounded by fantastical beings was mandatory. One of the reasons I have zero interest in the Transformers movies is because they're not about the robots but the humans. When you've got something really wonderful and different why drag it down by bringing in a "normal" human into it? So viewers can relate?! Who ever relates to those characters? Would the premise be too confusing for us puny humans to handle where another human not in it?
  3. I think it's cute how they're put together in the background of a few of the comics...but that's not canon of course. In terms of putting two random background characters together though, I'm all for it. It's a cute pairing and if we imagined how they'd be together I have the feeling Dr. Whooves would sometimes be too focussed on other things than whatever silly thing Derpy is doing, her "derpy-ness" is just kind of normal in the background to him. Not to say that he ignores her, it's all just very normal to him so he gets on with things whilst keeping a watch on her from the corner of his eye and will only intervene if she's going to do herself harm because of it...all without breaking his concentration, of course. My other theory is, he's living in a bit of a fantasy world in his head, perhaps thinking he's some time travelling alien and so her bizzareness actually fits in with his and they go on adventures together...which come about from situations he's totally blown out of proportion within his head.
  4. Definitely. You can see with all of them that they knew a bit about each other before, but it was Twilight who brought them all together. Rainbow Dash found Pinkie Pie to be really annoying, so much that she didn't want to be near her (Griffon the Brush Off) and she's been really frustrated with Fluttershy before too (Dragonshy). It's a testament to the show that it portrayed them that way, like any realistic friendship; there's things that annoy you about people at first, but over time you come to realise it's just part of who they are and it grows on you.
  5. I haven't actually decided on which ships to board yet, but can definitely see RariJack as making good sense. The two have lots of good episodes together and blend well with their opposites attract (but with similarities too). They maybe grated on each other early on (Look Before You Sleep), but because of that they've learned to appreciate the flaws in themselves as well as each other and it's brought them closer.
  6. @, Nice to see a decent write up for The Drop. I'll definitely give it a watch when it makes its way over here, your review kinda sums up what I thought from seeing the trailer: ok movie with very good actors pulling it up a bit. I can always be won over by a decent performance. Do you think people would really be clamouring for more Gandolfini? Obviously a terrible loss, but do you think he'd ever have been able to offer something, or given the chance to at least, outside of the gangster role? Or as a leading man? That being said I actually thought his role in Killing Them Softly was fantastic and severely overlooked.
  7. Just in case people missed it in my OP, I really wasn't being serious with what I called my "ridiculous, over the top analysis" and did say "I personally didn't believe in it". I was just having some fun with the over analysis and hoping to start an interesting discussion...which certainly did happen My honest stance on the show is that, like many others have already said, the mane 6 are great role models in and of themselves regardless of their or viewers gender. I personally don't believe gender should ever be an issue with characters, all characters should be able to be approached from a gender neutral perspective, eg. Rainbow Dash could be swapped out for being a stallion and it wouldn't make a blind bit of difference to her character. They are who they are, regardless of gender. Any point that I would make as to male role models wouldn't be that male role models are needed in the show for guys, but for girls too. But, like plenty of ponies here have stated, and I agree, any positive role model, again regardless of gender, is a good thing. My own view of Big Mac is that he is very much in the mould of the classic John Wayne, "quiet man" role. He thinks deeply about things, but only speaks when he feels it is something worth saying. A can with just one bean in it makes more noise than a full can. I'm sorry and saddened the way this topic went with @ScumCandy. Can't we all just get along?
  8. How could I forget Big Mac Love him. But, in this crazy theory, Big Mac would represent men being unwilling/unable to share their feelings/emotions due to his quiet, stoic nature.
  9. Looking throughout the show there is a real lack of males. Now, obviously this is a show mainly for young girls so it makes sense that the majority of the cast would be female. However, I think taking an extreme and ridiculously over the top analysis of it a case could be made that the male characters that are in the show aren't exactly the most positive of male role models for young girls. Spike: He's essentially a child, perpetrating the idea that boys are always a lot more immature in comparison with girls. Discord: He represents chaos of course, but also showing males as being unpredictable, crazy and untrustworthy. Shining Armor: Sure he's a loving big brother for Twilight, but how easily he was manipulated and controlled by Chrysalis is perhaps a suggestion that men are weak willed and there to be controlled by women. Flim & Flam: Men are always trying to trick you and take advantage of you. Bulk Biceps: Men are nothing more than muscle bound jocks. But, like I said, this is a ridiculously extreme analysis, and not one that I personally adhere to, but thought was funny enough to discuss . I do however, think there is a lack of male characters, and would like to see a male stallion with a bit more focus.
  10. I'm on board like others with there being a cunning and intelligent villain, as opposed to someone who just uses magic. Think it would be a cool idea to have a character come in that needs rescued by the princesses, ends up staying at the palace in Canterlot while they recover, becomes close with the princesses, particularly one of them either Celestia or Luna, and uses their influence to get things going their way. Kind of like a Rasputin style character. Then after they've manipulated the princesses for a while they make moves that puts them into the position of power as ruler. So basically I want Game of Thrones level political Machiavellian scheming, with not quite as much blood/death, sex scenes or use of the word bastard.
  11. I work in a bookies (betting shop). I kinda hate it been trying to get another job for quite a while, but not been successful so far. I like and get on with just about all the people I work with, but don't like the people I work for. I hate the hours I work, shop doesn't close until 10pm, and I'm not even on full time hours just now (only contracted 30 hours), and some of the members of the public you have to deal with would honestly rot your brain. Really wish I picked out my career years ago and worked specifically towards that rather than just getting my degree and then trying to figure it out.
  12. Trixie for Vegeta. Thinks she's the most powerful and awesome, but isn't quite and won't accept it, and goes from villain to kinda not so villain. So naturally she'll become they're friend soon. Celestia is Goku. All powerful, but only shows up after the hard work is done to steal the glory and generally abandons people that love them the rest of the time
  13. Let's start with the absolute obvious: Spider-man: The Animated Series X-men: TAS Batman: TAS The Tick (seeing a pattern yet? ) Gargoyles Angry Beavers Pokemon Animaniacs (Pinky & the Brain) Rugrats Dexter's Lab Power Puff Girls Cow and Chicken Hey Arnold Ed, Edd 'n Eddy Superman: TAS loads more too. Plus, here's some that weren't my favs, but I watched and are often forgotten: Biker Mice From Mars Swat Kats Earthworm Jim James Bond Jr. (I was actually telling someone in work about this the other week, they had no idea it existed!) Street Sharks! (so many TMNT rip offs in the 90s ) Skeleton Warriors Freakazoid The Mask Ace Ventura CatDog Omg, so many I want to just go back to the 90s now.
  14. I like the show as it is just now. Looking at the difference between the first two seasons and 3 and 4 I don't think there is much. My only complaint would be that the show became a bit too musical over 3 and early 4, but it's not like I hate songs I enjoy a good song in the show just felt there was maybe a bit too many at that point. But I'd say subsequent seasons have maybe gotten a bit more mature, there's definitely some early episodes that feel very aimed towards kids whereas now I think for the most part it's a bit broader overall. Did anyone ever imagine they'd get an epic fight scene in season 1 like we did with the s4 finale? As for Cadence/Shining Armour, there's absolutely nothing wrong with having a relationship in a show, if anything it makes these two standout a bit because they have that, plus they're older than Twilight and her friends so it's only natural that they should be pursuing a relationship. That's part of the natural evolution of things. Won't I don't like is when relationships are put in a show for the sake of it. Example, recently I've watched through 5 seasons of Parks & Rec and the show has got to the point that most American Sitcoms do in that everyone needs to be paired with someone...no they don't! Relationships should happen if they come naturally to the characters and story, developing it further in a meaningful way, not for the sake of "all characters must have happy ending = get them in a relationship". I don't think it would be a bad thing for one of the mane 6 to have a relationship, but certainly not all of them. I've said before but I think Fluttershy might benefit from a relationship. She's been really underwritten and underdeveloped, but I think it would be interesting to see her in a relationship, giving her someone to put all that love towards, seeing them appreciate her back, having to deal with when they have an argument and think it would be funny that they'd perhaps be such a sickly sweet couple that it would annoy the rest of the mane 6. Then if she got dumped it would teach her that not everything will always work out perfect and she needs to be more independent and outgoing at times.
  15. I was all for potentially believing it until this point. Not gonna happen.
  16. 1. Agreed. Spike needs more positive eps focusing on him, less highlighting how he's not so great at this or that and instead more just on him being awesome. 2. I don't think that Angel Bunny was always a jerk. I think he's just got ridiculously used to being looked after by Flutter Shy that he's ended up kind of spoiled and takes advantage of her kind nature, maybe he could get an episode that teaches him a lesson about taking advantage of others. 3. I know, right?!
  17. The fact we never really see her do much is part of the reason people aren't keen on her. You get the feeling that she could do a lot more if she felt like it, which she does explicitly say in the FF comic with Spike (which really annoyed me, saying she could've stopped so many of the villains but almost couldn't be bothered and instead left it up to an inexperienced Twilight). If she actually had an episode where she has to do something that we as viewers can see and appreciate, (we can't appreciate how she handles things like taxes etc. as we don't live in that world and there's no evidence to us of how she's even doing with that), then I think some of the hate on her would ease up. She needs to have a moment of awesome so we can see why exactly she's ruler of all.
  18. I was terrified of loads as a kid, any slightly scary or tv show would make me scared. When I was young I was actually terrified of the mutated Gremlins (when they eat after midnight and become big green things). I used to have dreams about one of them living in my cupboard and he came out one morning telling me he wanted to be my friend, but he wouldn't let me leave my room and was then trying to kill me. After I seen IT for the first time as a kid I hated walking anywhere near a stank (drain) in the street when it was raining. These days there is only one thing that scares me...death Seriously, if I start thinking about it too much I actually want to cry or hit myself to try and snap out of it or just try and run away from it, as impossible as that is.
  19. Vegeta. In terms of sympathising with him as a villain you can't argue with the Namek/Freiza saga. He's just generally always bad ass and hilarious, but then whenever he has to live in the shadow of Goku, despite the fact that he himself is prince of all Sayians! He was supposed to be the Super Sayian but it didn't happen. During the Majin Buu arc when he accepts the power up from Bobbity to try and kill Goku and he confesses he did it because he knows he'll never be better than him. It's really quite sad
  20. 1. Black Sabbath (include Ozzy/Dio solo into this) 2. The Beatles (including Macca's solo and Wings) 3. Marilyn Manson 4. KoRn 5. Wilco honourable mentions: Deep Purple, Rammstein, Jethro Tull, Slipknot, Johnny Cash.
  21. Seen A Most Wanted Man, last completed film role of Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Really enjoyed it, it's based on the John le Carre novel (same guy who wrote Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy book and loads of others) so it's all about spies. What I like about it is it's a proper spy film, not the Hollywood idea of a spy who's anything but secretive, runs around blowing stuff up with huge explosions and having gun fights and is always played by some sexy suave person who totally stands out from everyone else. That's part of what I like, our main character is someone older, overweight and regular, I have a real thing for older guys in movies...wait, that didn't come out right but I like it when the protagonist isn't your typical looking Hollywood star. Great performance by Seymour Hoffman, really going to miss him as much as I loved someone like Robin Williams the truth is the man hadn't been doing anything great career wise for a while (World's Greatest Dad the last thing), so in terms of new films and performances there's a lot less lost in comparison to someone like Hoffman who was still putting out fantastic stuff like this and someone I always like seeing even in smaller supporting roles in films. Very nice directing too, from Antoine Corbjin. I hadn't seen The American or Control so his work wasn't overly familiar to me, but must say I was impressed.
  22. Best Twilight episode for me, by some distance. The animation for her facial expressions when she snaps is just glorious, she goes borderline villain-esque with this episode. Maybe something they should try in future (a Twilight villain ep). The way she just magically appeared and replaced the ball the CMC were playing with was super creepy. Oh, and Big Mac keeping Smarty Pants for himself
  23. Was surprised to see Brighton beat, hope you guys kick on and get into the playoffs. Hyppia was quite good at Leverkusen...until they just kinda collapsed. I didn't follow the Championship transfers much this season but have you been able to replace Ulloa (he's doing a lot better in the Premiership than I thought he might) with anyone decent? Crazy result for Norwich. When I seen they were 2 down I thought Cardiff had it in the bag and was a bit shocked as I thought the game would've been a draw beforehand. But well done for the turnaround. In past couple seasons I might've said drawing at home to Man City was a good result for Arsenal, but considering how they came back from a goal down and looked really quite good at times the draw was a bit of a disappointment in the end. Wellbeck was so unlucky not to score, fantastic clever little dink finish that was maybe just too clever. Great goals from Wilshere and Alexis, team looks to have so much more options going forward...it's the problems at the back that still exist. I'm just glad Wenger made sure to buy another defender and defensive mid...oh, wait :okiedokielokie: Arsenal just shouldn't give corners away, just let teams get their crosses in as much as they want, might be less likely to concede that way Celtic won, so we're winning the league easy again...until the next poor result comes along.
  24. But you can explore all that without her having an alter ego. It seems totally unnecessary. Just because she gets angry doesn't mean there's anything more sinister or an alter ego lurking beneath, getting angry is a natural reaction, it simply takes more to get Fluttershy angry so when she does it stands out more because it's not something you're used to seeing. An alter ego would just add unnecessary complications and questions, like: are any of her reactions then truly hers? Which is the real Fluttershy personality? Is the Fluttershy we've seen up until this point actually the alter ego of the real Fluttershy? I don't think any of that is something worth considering. Fluttershy is who she is, she doesn't need another personality. Be true to yourself, Fluttershy We love you for who you are, Fluttershy
  25. I think an alter ego for Fluttershy would be a terrible idea. She is who she is, she doesn't need to be somepony else. I'd agree with Anilewe, that she needs some more focus and development. I love Fluttershy, but there's more to her I'd like to see. You could actually explore reasons why she's shy and quiet, perhaps her family are actually all very loud and noisy, so she felt drowned out and that her voice/opinion wasn't important. Maybe her family argue quite a lot and this caused her to become a bit more reclusive and part of the reason she ended up loving animals is because they were an escape from her life at home. Her friendship with Discord needs to get more focus, and it's interesting if you think about it that Fluttershy is the only pony Discord has ever been "afraid" of. I'm not just talking about afraid of losing her friendship, if you go back to "Return of Harmony", Fluttershy was the only one he couldn't trick, he had to forcibly alter her mind/personality. This suggests that Fluttershy has a strength and will power that perhaps few others can match. I think Fluttershy would be possibly the best out of the mane 6 to have a boyfriend too. She just has such a loving personality that I think it'd be nice to see her have someone be as caring back to her, and it could also be quite funny because any couple she'd be in would be a lovey-dovey type that could potentially make the others feel sick at the sight of how sweet they are. This all lays the ground for FluttershyxDiscord of course. But yeah, I want more of Fluttershy in general, seeing all the other interests she has and doing lots of stuff.
