"I like the characters better in the G5 shows, this essay fully explains why."

Well, Pipp barely got any lines in the movie so that's strike one! :Angry-zip:

In all seriousness, I think Izzy was better in the movie compared to whatever her TYT character is supposed to be. :izzy-oooh:

You can see in the essay that I am aware that Pipp's improvement in the shows is the "low-hanging fruit", that's why I elaborate on how the movie couldn't have done the development given to her in the shows. Also, I have another essay linked to in the DA description that explains why Izzy is the way she is.

This is how I've always felt about the fandom criticisms, even back in G4. The incessant Student 6 hate was what annoyed me the most (I just missed the Starlight drama at its peak). :yeahno: No matter how good G5 was, a lot of people would reject it just because it wasn't G4.

But I must say I've been surprised by how many people liked the movie and dislike the later G5 content. My experience with G5 has been pretty much the opposite – I found ANG quite underwhelming (not to say there weren't things I liked about it, especially Sunny's portrayal). MYM chapter 2 was what made me a fan of G5 – not to the extent I was with G4, but I still enjoy it. :rarity:

I can relate with not clicking with the "Everything from G5 has been on a downward spiral since the movie!" rhetoric at all. My high point with G5 has been MYM Chapter 4 (with the sixth chapter being a close second) and before that, it was MYM Chapter 2.

You write stories? This post feels incomplete without a link to it! Please share! Does Pipp like being a ghost as much as she likes seeing ghosts?

The link to my FiMFiction.net page is right there on my profile and I've linked people to the story on MLPForums in a topic for it, heh. But if you want to be linked to Pipp the Poltergeist here to read it, sure. :PIPPIPHURRAY:

:D enjoyed the parody so much that I recorded it. @Misty Shadow is it ok to share this around at all? maybe put in on my youtube to allow me to share it (it's just an itty bitty thing) if I credit you?

Sure, I have seen people do "dramatic readings" of my trollfics in the past. Just please disclose that I have retired from doing stories like that in the description.

I don't really read literature on the DeviantArt and therefore I am confused about what happened, I know that on DeviantArt people don't really like when someone steals the other people art. People just know when that happens. Nobody really cares when you post someone's picture on Fimfiction story.

I was permitted by the artist's rules and he had only mistaken me for an art thief. He did not even know that it was just a cover for the story that he was credited for.

Wow.... Diviant art didn't even give you a warning before shutting you down? No emails? 🤔 You should email them or something... Don't stress over them my friend, you lose if you do.

They are the ones I'm angry with, not the guy who hit me with that DMCA. I did e-mail DA, have heard nothing back yet. I also messaged the guy on Derpibooru, who got back to me pretty quickly, and he told me regrets what he's done now that he realizes what he misunderstood. DA didn't even give me a chance to explain what happened before they not only banned me, but got rid of ALL OF MY WORK:Posey-grimace:

I am very sorry to hear about your situation. Maybe they can't afford to pay as many workers? Either way, I hope you can find a temporary job until you can find something more permanent. How long have you worked at your current workplace?

I did work there for almost four years, but then there was that situation where I left for a short period and got hired back. Regardless, I was definitely going to get the furlough over the kinds of colleagues who had been there for five to fifteen years.

"Unsupported" in tech verbiage often means "no promises" and "you're on your own". Sometimes, it means "it works, for now, but no one is going out of their way to make sure it keeps working". I bet it's one of these situations but hopefully it'll flip over to some version of "supported" soon!

Glad to hear you're having a good time with your Deck! I've only been hearing good things about them. They give me hope for Linux in the future of PC gaming.

Yeah, I did consider the possibility that it actually could run despite being unsupported. The confusion came more from the fact that the statement of the game I wanted to play being unsupported was followed by a statement of "some or all of this game doesn't function on Steam Deck".

  9. Very cool to see you lay something like this out. My old worldview was not so much based on state education, but on my environment. I thought people in general had things figured out, didn't see much reason to go against what other people told me, and thought that my rough upbringing was an excuse to look at myself as a victim. The more I grew up, the more I realized I was wrong. People will believe anything, no matter how ludicrous, so long as their insecurities are manipulated well, it's crucial to believe in something factually grounded you're willing to stand up for no matter what others tell you, and no matter how bad you've had it, victim mentality will lead you down the path to failure.

Whew. Load of good points here. Though I want to touch on one thing, and I am by no means attempting to argue with you nor am I trying to contradict you, but I do want to add something to your #1 spot's counterpoints.

Twilight Sparkle did say there was an evil lurking around attempting to steal everyone's magic for themself. Well, Twilight has dealt with two other villains in the same vain... One who sought to take all of the magic for himself, and one who sought to seal it away so she could manipulate her way into the top slot of authority in the land. Now, both came rather close to success, and while Twilight did give her magic up to save her friends, that is not the same as doing away with magic in its entirety. None of the characteristics of Twilight Sparkle suggest she would really consider doing this.

Now, the other dilemma I am faced with is explaining how weather came to be tame or even really work at all after that? It was made fairly clear that the lack of magic would mean the ponies would no longer have any control over the climate, thus the agricultural sector would be crippled and the environment would be devastated. Fact is, throughout the run of G4, Twilight was subjected to explanations about how losing all the magic in Equestria would be a complete disaster. For it to be her decision later on, knowing what she can't help but know at the time she'd have done it, does seem a rather poor decision for somepony in charge of a nation's safety. Although, I've never thought of her character as having been assassinated by this. It just never made much sense to me, but that's the most I've really felt about it.

None of this is to say that I am not enjoying G5, in fact I'm loving it a great deal. I am, however, frustrated at having to suspend disbelief so often while on the road to getting answers, including the all-important end of this mystery. There are certainly a number of points between G4 and G5 which I feel do not comfortably connect.

But I agree with the majority of what you say.

Although, Point #2 suggests that the ponies were living in peace. Uh, I disagree. They were, perhaps, living peacefully. Or at least the Pegasi and Unicorns were, sort of. The Earth Ponies' technology division seemed dedicated to manufacturing weapons, and traps, and preparing for ambushes and attacks, and none of that sounds like living peacefully, let alone living in peace. The Pegasi were all lost in social media, but they weren't really showing signs of having preparing for any kind of war, just subscribed to some level of racial paranoia.

The unicorns didn't even appear to be anywhere near either of the other two races in terms of technology, living a bit more crude of a lifestyle and they seem to be universally afflicted with something resembling a mild form of OCD, which Izzy refers to as things being "Jinxy", also not a terribly peaceful sounding existence.

Then, after all this, all of the other races that had been welcomed into Equestria and made friends are not accounted for. So while not ALL of their accomplishments could be said to have been undone, it does not look like a success story to me.

Oh, and for the ponies being easily swayed... This is true for a lot of them, very much a herd instinct in terms of panic mode and all that, but towards the end of G4 we did see a few stand up and speak out about the need to get along and do better than their ancestors did. Surely were some voices of reason to be had?

However, as you said, this will take time as it is an over-arcing mystery plot slowly unfolding. So, not everything has been addressed yet, and not everything necessarily promises to be answered, but it does look like it'll be quite cool to see it all unfold anyway.

Okay, and going over all that I wrote it all sounds like arguments to me. So, I'm sorry for the tone. I don't intend a fight or anything like that.

I believe what you are missing about my first point was that it was a last resort by Twilight. She didn't want to do it, but it was the lesser of two evils. They were going to lose the magic anyway because of Opaline stealing it. The pegasi also only serve the same purpose in controlling the weather that Celestia and Luna do in controlling the sun and moon. They make the ponies' lives better in what they do, but it's not needed to make their lives livable. And Twilight does still know how important magic is, that's why she set up a way for the ponies to get it back. As for Point #2, you can live in peace and still be fearful of what enemies and perceived enemies from other lands could do to you. Real life has always been that way, even at the times of greatest peace. I also added in the fact that the Mane 6's greatest accomplishment that was recognized by Celestia and Luna was "undone" in G4 too because the Windigos returned in the same season.

It's interesting to me that you don't really like Sunny Day Dinners, I thought it was nice to have a sentimental simplistic moment, always am a sucker for the shooting star, but this one rather bc you say you like Hitch and AGAIN it may just be me, but the serious regards of which Hitch takes his friendships... Like Hitch practically having a meltdown bc Sunny and Izzy haven't made it back at a reasonable time, helps sell to me how genuine the friendship between the ponies are, ESPECIALLY we know how close Sunny and Hitch are, and when Sunny tells them that all she wanted was that time together, it feels even more authentic ..

But just some thoughts, I'm crazy about My Bananas xD

Hitch's serious regards, that is admittedly the high point of the episode, but it's already well-established that this is a good group of friends that truly cares about each other.

Interesting that you are able to dream about being a kid again.

I have never been able to dream about myself being outside my current age range.

I also dreamt once that I was a woman in bed and someone was trying to break down the door. I have also had "dreams within dreams" before. Dreams like that are bizarre and rare, but they do happen.

"Apparently, Will Smith gasp slapped Chris Rock for whatever reason!! OMG EVERYONE, how incredible is that! Some dude smacking another dude! This truly is the Mozart drama theatre of our time. Some insanely over privileged guy smacking another over privileged guy and everyone loses their goddamn mind. Keep in mind that if you or me did this exact same thing, we would get jailtime for assault. Will Smith does it? It becomes a national holiday.

I seriously don't give the slightest ounce of a fuck about what some celebrity did at the Oscars. Even in my pathetic existence of failure, I still have much better things to focus on than this worthless tripe."

I could not agree more.

"Doctors and scientists? People that actually make real differences in society? To hell with that noise, we have celebrities to cling to."

Of course, I'm tempted to play devil's advocate for a second and say that there also exists mindless worship of doctors and scientists accompanied by ignorance of all the corruption that goes on in the fields of science and medicine...but only for a second. ^_^ More importantly, yeah, never cared about celebrity culture. I really feel that they're just milking this drama to get people talking about the Oscars again and I don't care. I, and most other people, have more real problems than ever in recent history to worry about right now. :secret:

  14. Perfect timing, I was right about to read Season 10, Volume 2. :dash:

I like Reflections a lot, but it's not my breakdown. Totally agree with The Good, the Bad, and the Ponies being the worst even as I have a little more animosity for The Root of the Problem with it having easily some of MLP's most cringy, ham-fisted messaging of all time. Also glad that MLPXTransformers II got a spot to shine in, definitely would be more excited for III than whatever else is coming with the finale of Generations.

  15. I always love an argument that goes against the grain and changes my mind, and you sir, have changed my mind. Granted, I never hated Sprout, but I did use to agree that his "comeuppance" in the alternate ending would've been better if not for Phyllis' influence playing such a large role in him doing what he did (meaning that Phyllis not being punished too wouldn't be fair). But yeah, I hate how people pretend to forget that this is My Little Pony we're talking. If I have to make one criticism, it's the absence of Discord on the characters unpunished for bad behavior list, the BEST EXAMPLE. He only got a scolding for bringing back the villains and putting Equestria in the greatest danger it had ever been in, definitely stupider than what happened with Sprout.

  16. Thank you all for the supportive comments. As an addendum, I will remark that I did go to a successful job interview and will be called for orientation this Friday. I'll post further details about my job once I have worked there for at least longer than a week and know for absolute certain I will not be laid off from it. I don't want to give any of you false hope. Thanks again. :fluttershy:
