Writing a PM can be a really time consuming process, especially when a single message has 15442 characters. And they're still getting bigger and bigger with each reply.
@Fluttershy Friend, good job with keeping me busy.
With that being said, I can finally go to sleep. It's 1PM already! Just enough to wake up at night.

I hate myself...
...because I know an answer to this question
SpoilerDo you know the answer?
A, B, C or D?
SpoilerIt's A: Me
'coz it's - Apparently Me
Eeeh... I'll feel like a potato tomorrow. Goodmornight!

Aaaaah! I totally forgot!
Three years ago; 1st day of March - I bumped into something, that flipped my life upside down. Something, that gave me inspiration to get the hobbies I currently have. Something, that blew my mind and changed the way how I see some things. Something, that just brought me here...
Yep! It was my third pony anniversary!
It's been three years and it feels like not so long ago, yet on the other hoof I already miss these times so much- exploring a whole new world. It literally has a nostalgic feel to me.
I honestly would never guess, that such a thing-- designed for kids-- would blow my mind like this.I'm feeling, that I have grown up from that a little though, but I don't want to. I associate way too many good memories with it and even if I'll ever get bored of it - I won't turn my back on ponies, no matter how childish it sounds. They are a relatively big part of my life after all.
That's also where you all come in - I most likely wouldn't meet any of you otherwise!
What a shame it took me around 21 days to realize, that I forgot about that. At least it's still the same month - so that's good enough!
So... YAY!

Hah, I'm the one, who is late. Don't you worry. Thank you!
Sometimes I'm wondering what I'd be doing if I wouldn't bump into MLP - Most likely I'd be only playing video games all day. I'm glad, that a chain of events gave me the inspiration and brought me here, I don't have any regrets in regards to how I spend my free time.
Oh, I'm really happy to hear that. It's an honor for me too, always glad to see you around. (honestly)

Finally, new PC ready to go! It works 99999999 times faster than my previous one. YAY

Maybe you're just tired? Emotionally instead of/as well as physically? I know after a stressful day, I usually need to unwind a bit, even if I have work on WFM to do...
This is a good youtube vid to watch; it's a funny, in-depth review of an old-school NES game that wasn't Capcom's best work, and IMO the reviewer has a pretty soothing voice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0Zojq6PrGY
I find listening to him complain about it is pretty cathartic!
If you want a look at it, this video is the next part after that intro:
-
@HereComesTom Hah, his ranting was funny indeed.
I played these two games back when I was a kid and I personally liked 'Adventures in the Magic Kingdom'. However, I completely agree about how terrible 'Mickey Mouse' was. I never managed to beat that game, because its difficulty was ridiculously high.

After struggling with it for a pretty long time now... (it gave me a bad time ) Twilight can climb slopes (and even stairs! ), so the world doesn't have to be blocky anymore.
It's still a work in progress, as I also need to make Twilight descent gently when going down, so that she doesn't constantly lose contact with the ground, successfully preventing her from jumping, which may be irritating (see Twilight when she's descending from the left side to see what I mean). That happening on the right side (stairs) is fine, it's about the smooth curves, where catching the right moment for jump is really hard and simply annoying.
Eh.. The code for all of it is pretty confusing already, I constantly bump into some glitches here and there. Tried to do one thing, had to modify few other to make it all work together properly.
What kind of bugs you may ask?
These kind of bugs:
Shattered Harmony Speedrun any % confirmed
It's all fixed now, but finding the problem was not an easy task. I was suspecting many things that seemed obvious, but it turned out, that apparently even though she didn't actually collide with the wall, she was so close to it, that it was counting her as standing on the ground, hence vertical_speed being not affected by the gravity and going up. On top of that, there was another tiiiiiiiiiny difference in maths, which ended up making her gently get stuck in the corner, launching her to the other wall due to some mechanics for precise collisions I've put. Today I discovered in the manual, that there are read-only instance properties, that basically tell where the hitbox edges are and I, like a complete moron was doing it manually, counting the pixels from the origin of the sprite on my own. It all was correct, but apparently there were tiiiiny differences between read-only variables and my maths after rounding stuff up, resulting in weird behavior. Now it all bases on the same variables, so it's 100% accurate now.
I hate collision stuff.

After few months, I finally have installed the software back to take a look at what is happening in the project.
Aaand of course, I got confused in my own code. Forgot what things were doing.. I was browsing it for a while and rewrote few things for better organization and I think I'm back on track now.
In the meanwhile, I was curious how many ponies I'd have to spawn, to make the FPS drop below 60.
Apparently 17000
*sigh* Why can't I focus on actually doing progress...?

@Sparklefan1234 Fair enough!
@SolarFlare13 In the same place as Pinkie.Actually there is the real one - Twilight Sparkle, though she's covered by pink pones.
@Fluttershy Friend Yeah- try to boop me now! To make sure you've booped me, you'd have to mention me 17000 times in the boop game. (better don't )
Now that you mention that, I have to agree, the one there is the cutest.

Made a placeholder title screen
Nothing fancy, but it will do for now. At the very moment I don't have ideas for a more unique background, maybe something will come to my mind after some time or simply later, as I progress.

@Tacodidra You'd say that even if it looked terrible. jk, jk, Thank you. It's nothing special, but it does look okay indeed. If I won't get any better ideas, I may keep that one, so I'll see. I have some ideas on how to utilize that one though, so even if at first it will appear rather plain, some animations and transitions may make it nice.
@Cash In Thank you and yeah, I see where you're coming from. These tend to really vary in games. Sometimes it's just a budget/unreadable font clashing with a messy background or something. I have a feeling I should come up with something unique for that particular game, rather than using obvious scenery, but it's still better than I expected to be honest. That background actually works pretty well, because it doesn't steal the spotlight, so to speak. Besides, that view and sky in general are awesome.

It does look good enough for a final release, except for one thing: the orbs that represent the elements of harmony leave me wondering which one represents which pony.
I mean, does the blue one represent Rainbow Dash, or does it represent Pinkie Pie? It's the three on the right that really lead to confusion; the pure pink one looks like it could represent Fluttershy, but the other two are reddish-pink and whitish-pink, so I don't know who they're meant to represent.
If the reddish-pink one was just plain red and the whitish-pink one was fuschia, then I'd know these were the elements of harmony and which one was which. Or if the pure pink one had some yellow on it and the whitish-pink one had some purple on it, then I'd know they were meant to represent the colors of the mane six themselves.
All that said, I love what you did with the font! I didn't notice how shattered it was until I looked at it a second time!
-
Yeah, you're right, I've been wondering on that myself to be honest. I took the colors from the elements harmony in a specific way and put these in a specific order, it's just that these three elements share a similar color (red (where less saturation makes it look like pink), deep pink and lighter pink). Just look at it -- -- not my fault these blend together like this. I think the problem here is that I used too much of the brighter variant, which makes these look too similar. The biggest problem are Twilight's and Fluttershy's elements, as they're both pink with just slightly different shade.
If you'll look closer, you should be able to tell which one represents which element. Laughter, Honesty and Generosity are rather obvious, then there's that lighter pink, which is Kindness, then there's red - Loyalty and at the end the deeper pink - Magic. So yeah, it is possible, but indeed confusing.
Anyway, it's not really important to actually know which one is which and it's pretty easy to tell what these represent, as you don't have three pink ponies (or red) in the mane six and there's no whiteish, nor yellow, so Rarity and Fluttershy's colors aren't there. So if it's not about ponies, these have to be elements, which is what also the title kind of suggests with "Harmony". Nevertheless, I'll try changing the order of these colors, to use the darker variant more. That should make these easier to distinguish. Eventually I'll try making these colors a bit more aggressive.
I was thinking of giving these an actual shape of the elements, which would surely make things obvious, but it's supposed to be a tiny little detail that suggests things, but not "yells" about it, so to speak. I may give it a try later though, maybe shaping these a bit won't hurt, though not sure about these low dimensions. Well, it was possible to make something, that looks like Twilight in 4x4 , so it should be possible.
Thank you for commenting!
QuoteAll that said, I love what you did with the font! I didn't notice how shattered it was until I looked at it a second time!
Thank you! That was the very first thing that came to my mind when I started thinking about the title screen / logo-thingie.
I imagined it a bit different though. I didn't draw a concept, nor anything, it was just the first try, where I literally went with whatever I was getting in the process, hence why I said "placeholder". I might do some more science later, but yeah, it actually turned out better than I expected, as for the first, rather quick try.

No one:
Literally no one:
My nose: *sprays blood*
.. Though I gotta say, it's been a while. I was seeing blood nearly every single day, but now I haven't seen any in like 3 weeks, so it's still a pretty nice achievement lul.
Well, I hope it will continue to happen less often or stop doing this completely.

@Lord Valtasar Ouh, that's what I'd prefer to avoid. Hmm possibly, work is nothing but stress.
@Stone Cold Steve Tuna Oof, that's interesting how it just happens, heh. I think it is okay, but I never can be sure I guess. Yes, yes, I do that each time it crashes, but ooh boii, these memory leaks happen way too often.

Things are slowly being re-opened in Poland, so that slowly-as-well makes my job come back to normal...
... but now I'm wondering if my salary will come back to normal.
Personally I absolutely don't care about the virus (my own safety, that is), because the government's ridiculous ideas and the company I work for abusing that tough time are bigger threats than the virus itself. I'm just mentally drained. I hope it all gets back to normal soon...
On the other news, the loan I took, that now consumes nearly 60% of my monthly net salary has only 4 installments left. 4 months and things should start getting better, given the world won't explode or something. At least it's that one thing worth looking forward to.

@Outnick In Poland we have a monthly MLP magazine and they give figurines once in a while. It's really cheap too, less than $3.
I buy these mainly for figurines.
This one also came from that magazine:
In my opinion, the quality of these figurines is extremely decent, taking their price into consideration. Such a great deal!

You are right, friend. The quality is suprisingly good. I still look for Luna figurine in one of those magazines.
BTW I was thinking that you buy them just because of "kolorowanki"
Looking for Luna figurine I've read that this magazine is for 2-6 years old kids. Definitely it isn't full truth!
And yes I also find these sadle bags adorable.
-
Yeah, Luna would be nice.
Kolorowanki? Really? Posters are nice though.
Yeah, this magazine is very manly, because you need to be brave to buy this.

@Rikifive Awh... Back to frowning lyra now.
-
What am I doing? I'm not sure...
I was thinking of making Twilight a bit more detailed and... Iiiiiiiii don't know if it's "a bit" more detailed, but it looks pretty cool.
It was meant to be a simple-looking game, but of course I always make everything more complicated than needed.
Anyway, I'm pretty much redoing the whole sprite sheet, as it was made rather quickly back then. These were more like placeholders, so that I could code stuff. The time has come to fix terrible animations I've made (mostly walking lmao), adjust sprites a bit and improve one or two things...
Making sprites, especially animations is something that doesn't entertain me, sadly. I'm not very good a this and it takes a while to come up with an acceptable result.

@Tacodidra And that's good enough! Jumping is overrated. Small steps, smaaaaall steps.

It's not an easy task to find experienced people, who'd be willing to work for free.
Besides, I don't really want to ask for someone's time, because you never know what may happen with these games - if they ever see the light of day and stuff. I wouldn't like to waste someone's work. I perfectly know, that it's nothing nice.
So yeah, working with others is a responsibility, unless you pay them so they get what they want regardless if you'll reach the finish line or not.
I guess one could say, that for now I'm practicing things. Also I didn't say, that I don't like doing pixel art, as in, that I don't want to do any of this. It's just that it usually takes a while for me, because I'm not that good at it. I enjoy designing things and making it all work, but art is something, that slows me down, that's why it's kind of tiring, not entertaining as it should be. If the progress would be going smoothly, that would be another story.
-
Vomiting, fever, headache - it could be better...
-
To not fully waste the work...
This is a concept for a site banner I've made some time ago. The idea was to include all characters, that are in the teams and yeah, it looked better in my mind. It got rejected in the end. It took me a relatively long time to make, so before I'll put that in the shame corner, I was thinking of randomly posting it here for ... um... laughs? idk; Why not sharing failures?
So yeah, now it served some purpose I guess. 10/10 i tried
*throws that to shame corner*
Now move along please, nothing to see here.

Ah, I'm looking for a 144+hz 27' FHD monitor and I cannot decide! VA or IPS? It's a bit harder when both, gaming and content creation matters. I also can't decide which brand should I choose, Gigabyte? MSI perhaps? There are way more options for QHD, but I'm not sure about that resolution - I already have a curved VA 60hz FHD monitor I plan to use as secondary and I figured picking the same resolution would make the workspace consistent.
I don't know, I kinda lean towards flat IPS like this one? -- GIGABYTE G27F 27" 1920x1080px IPS 144Hz 1 ms
I've been reading and watching reviews for literally a week now and I still can't decide. ;-;

@Rikifive Keep us updated with how the monitor works!
I might still buy an adapter, and keep the monitor for desktop refresh rate only, and not for gaming. My game is not demanding. I do need 120 Hz and 144 Hz for testing, but because my game runs in a window on the desktop.... Anyways, if it cannot do 144 Hz, then I can just upgrade the computer too
-
No worries, I'll be sure sure to complain if something won't work Can't wait to play hide and seek with dead pixels I-- I mean, I'll surely share my thoughts once I get it and put to some basic tests. It will also be my very first hi-refresh monitor, so that alone will be an interesting experience.
There's also to wonder if your hardware itself does support 144hz I suppose. If it does at all, desktop and light games shouldn't cause troubles I believe. As long as you can get decent fps in your game, it should work. What are you working on there by the way? 👀

I have accidentally bit a fork so hard, that I damaged my tooth. I cannot express how disappointed I am, that this happened. That kinda makes me regret, that I dared to wake up today. Just one careless moment... and I'm not sure what it will lead to. It bothers me so much.
- Show previous comments 7 more
-
@Lord Valtasar oh yes, it was. I believe my teeth in general are okay- I just bit it really, really hard in a relatively weird angle. That damaged the front surface of my tooth. So far I don't feel any pain, nor it isn't that visible, though I feel slight discomfort there as it's not smooth anymore. But when it comes to teeth, you never know if it magically decides to cause more troubles....
@Cash In I hope it won't get worse. Ouh sorry to hear that. The fact they don't regrow irks me. The evolution could have tried harder.
@Kevin Tang Aww I can imagine that.. Sorry to hear that.
@Fluttershy Friend I will be worrying, because not everything will be good. If I'll notice something wrong, I guess I'll have to visit one.. but oh the hassle it will require, not mentioning the costs it will generate...
-
@Rikifive Humans are seriously filled with design flaws. I was on the waiting list for a replacement tooth for four years, until they decided to tell me I'm ineligible.
-
I have to admit, this is a really nice figurine, I like it.
Also, my vacations have ended and I already know, that there most likely will be a really tough week at work... So... I don't really want to wake up tomorrow, heh. Now again, waiting for the next Summer I suppose... I didn't do everything I planned, so I cannot hide the disappointment in myself. The time goes way too fast, eh..
Either way, I haven't slept for 37 hours now, it's definitely time for me to go to sleep.
Goodnight!

Thank you, but sadly I cannot say that I'm afraid.
I slept well, though not enough.
And... it wasn't an enjoyable day at work. I had to stay for slightly more than 11 hours. I wish I could hope it will get better, but I already know, that it won't be any better tomorrow (today for me), eh. Each time something changes at work, it's always for the worse. They keep putting more and more stuff on me. Oooh I'm so lucky, am I not?
-
I just thought of something... That I'm not doing much here on the forums.
I mean, it's kinda funny when I think of the fact, that these forums are focused on ponies and stuff, but I'm not really participating in any discussions, nor other things. I just lurk here and there (mostly where I shouldn't) and that's all.
Heh, what am I doing here then?

@ChB Oh that's something indeed.

Heh this status kinda went into other direction than I thought, but thank you all for warm words, very appreciated.

I just got demoted at work & minimum wage go brrr
I saw that coming, that's how things look like in Poland now.
Honestly though, I've been always heavily underpaid for the same reason, always getting a small raise only because the minimum wage went up. Lately the minimum country wage kept surpassing my salary. Now they only made it "official" by degrading me - I guess it's because there are new rules that say, that everyone on the same position should have equal salary - so they had to make it an official demotion so that I can't say they're breaking their own rules.
Can't they just get rid of me already...
