purple.teal 50 June 4, 2014 Share June 4, 2014 http://www.horse-news.net/2014/05/equestrian-states-secede-from-fandom.html So, apparently, some people are finding the Brony fandom to be too toxic for them, and are separating themselves as Equestrians. I commend their efforts but it is all wrong. Those outside of the fandom won't give them the time of day to explain themselves as "Equestrians, not Bronies" And all the Bronies inside the fandom will think they are just being stupid. Apparently the Furry Fandom had something of this sort happen to them as well, The rebellion of burned furs. http://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Burned_Furs Lasted three whole years. This makes me wonder if our own seceding states are something that may actually pose a problem to the security of our group. On a side note I wonder if this will actually become a big news thing and be given a name like The Equestrian Revolution or some such. Just a warped wiseman wondering. 2 If you are going to walk on thin ice, you may as well dance!
Kay Dreamer 884 June 4, 2014 Share June 4, 2014 This fandom certainly does have a negative reputation, but that's just... a little silly. If you really want to create your own secluded little corner of a fandom, create your own forum. That way you can choose which toxic elements you want to boot out and create a culture which suits you. Don't declare war and make a huge fuss by coming up with a whole new name. I just call myself a fan, as I'm honestly not comfortable being called a brony. Sure it's generic, but I really don't need a made up word to indicate my love for the show or my participation in this fandom. 2 The Crystal Minstrel Pony Tumblr Kay Dreamer's Roleplay OC and Cast Character Archive
fireflylass 33 June 4, 2014 Share June 4, 2014 (edited) i don't see how it will make much of a difference myself. they will still have the same troubles and it looks dumb to split off from the main group but do pretty much the same thing except calling themselves a different name i always call myself a fan, i always though the word brony was a little bit silly myself, but if people must label me then i guess that is what i am Edited June 4, 2014 by fireflylass
Adachi 772 June 4, 2014 Share June 4, 2014 I could see coming up with a term to separate people who enjoy the more innocent aspects of the show and are against clop/gore (even though it won't do any good, haters gon hate), but it doesn't make sense to "secede" from the fandom. “I am quite sure now that often, very often, in matters concerning religion and politics a man’s reasoning powers are not above the monkey’s.” — Mark Twain
Envy 6,144 June 4, 2014 Share June 4, 2014 Well, I can definitely give them that unlike 'Brony', this one is completely gender-neutral, and that's very nice. However, I see no value in fandom titles of any kind... So I find the idea of another separate fandom title to separate from the 'Brony' fandom to be silly. I've separated myself from the 'Brony' fandom by never calling myself a 'Brony'. By saying I'm just a casual fan of the show, nothing more - no need for a title. That's all you need. Applying a fandom title to yourself is a stigma all in itself. 'Equestrians' will look no different from 'Bronies'. 1 Everything needs more woodwind! If I can, I'll go to a Brony convention, but in the end, I am just another person whose interests include other things too along with ponies (although ponies rank very highly above my other interests xD). Fhaolan 4,483 June 4, 2014 Share June 4, 2014 Hahahahahah! Oh dear, this fandom is really are going through the phases quick, isn't it? Previously fandoms wouldn't hit this one for a couple more years. Trekkie vs Trekker, Furry vs Anthro, so on so forth. I wouldn't worry about it. Given the speed we're going, this will last a year and a half, maybe two years before it's a historical footnote. Expect a big surge in this kind of thing about six to eight months from now though. About when the Rainbow Rocks movie hits theatres, now that I think about it.
~Chaotic Eddie~ 479 June 4, 2014 Share June 4, 2014 I reckon this is people being a bit whiny. Every fandom has its iffy bits, these guys just seem to not get that. I do poetry. SkyDream 315 June 4, 2014 Share June 4, 2014 (edited) Titles. Words. Mere words. let your actions define you, not other peoples' beliefs about you if they haven't seen your actions and beliefs for themselves. From my perspective, I don't care what they do or believe. It's up to them to show themselves in the light they want to be seen in. EDIT: I had forgotten a very important e. My most sincere regrets. Steel Accord 6,660 June 5, 2014 Share June 5, 2014 I honestly hope it doesn't become a problem. I don't like the idea that we are so bad that our own ranks have felt betrayed. I don't want us to break apart, I don't want us to fight. Haven't we learned what happens when we let differences embitter us to each other? 4 My ponysona: http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/steel-accord-r1970 My AMA thread: http://mlpforums.com/topic/76698-as-steel-me-andor-oc/

Amber Rays 42 June 5, 2014 Share June 5, 2014 I'll just say that regardless of how many times that I've felt let down by the fanbase, at no point in time did I ever seriously imagine creating my own fandom. It's a rediculous notion and solves absolutely nothing since it'd only create more problems due to the innevitability of an us versus them mentality forming amongst both groups. In short, agressors on each side would become anti-"bronies" if that were to occur. I feel it defeats the whole purpose of a My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic fandom. We're here to enjoy ponies and treat eachother accordingly based upon their actions towards others within the fandom. We're not here to pick fights with people, well I hope not all of us are at the very least. Even when I have been seriously let down before, there were always those within the fandom who helped me out in my times of serious doubt about the fanbase in general. They were those precious little beacons of light that not only bind us together but keep us moving forward. So I say, let's not show hostility towards our new "Equestrian" counterparts. Let us be those beacons of light towards them and show them that perhaps we aren't all as bad as they think. So we can all enjoy a cartoon show about little colorful ponies together without issue. If push comes to shove, we'll still have eachother. Besides, we'll always outnumber them.

Red Cedar 1,408 June 5, 2014 Share June 5, 2014 All fandoms tend to have negative elements and stereotypes, and for better or worse, it's the negative elements that fuel the stereotypes. I can see where the Equestrians are coming from in certain aspects, but their efforts would be better spent in educating their fellow fans on how to present themselves and the fandom to the non-Brony public. IridscentNionios 1,420 June 5, 2014 Share June 5, 2014 You guys should really watch "Elements of Brony". It's because we allowed for others to define the term brony and what a brony is that we are now accused of BS that is associated with the word Brony. Originates from haters that say "If you're a normal fan of the show why do you call yourself a brony?" It's pure BS because we allowed people outside the group to patronize the usage of the term. It's absolutely ridiculous and it comes purely from our zero attempts to step up shove the bs they give us back to their faces. Sure we must tolerate them but that doesn't mean we should accept their definitions of ourselves. It's god-damn ridiculous and divides people rather than unite... that's what brony is meant to do... unite people... not divide them. 1 OCs Thorough list of all of them here. Henny Penny Benny 936 June 5, 2014 Share June 5, 2014 I don't really see any issue with it. I mean, I don't see much sense to it, either, but I can't really foresee it causing problems, except for them having to explain how they're Hipsters, er....... Equestrians and not Bronies. But I mean, if they want to distinguish themselves from Bronies, fine by me. It ain't like we have the collective rights to liking Ponies.
Freewave 1,145 June 6, 2014 Share June 6, 2014 http://www.horse-news.net/2014/05/equestrian-states-secede-from-fandom.html You know Horse News is the equivalent of the Onion or the Daily Show. It's meant to spotlight idiocy as it occurs and lampoon it. I really don't give much credence to those who want to split off from the rest of the fandom, it sounds very derpy in my book. If it makes them feel better to avoid the "bad side" of the fandom then they are welcome to avoid it but those who divide the fandom in good and bad camps are truly the toxic part imho. Is this how people want to spend their summer? I have made brony music since 2011. I like all kinds of music and genres. I'm sure you'll like some of it.. Ribbonfree 2,383 June 6, 2014 Share June 6, 2014 You know Horse News is the equivalent of the Onion or the Daily Show. It's meant to spotlight idiocy as it occurs and lampoon it. To an extent. purple.teal 50 June 6, 2014 Author Share June 6, 2014 so are they going to boycott the brony conventions and make there own cons? During the Burning of Furs, that is exactly what had happened. But I don't think it will come to that. I hope at least. We are starting to build a creditable reputation as a calm and generally level fan base. This would undermine it all. Nothing will be built from this, that is for certain. If you are going to walk on thin ice, you may as well dance!
User07832407840 177 June 6, 2014 Share June 6, 2014 I do not think it's very good to have a separate fandom under a different name; the point of a fandom is that we all like a similar thing, and having 2 fandoms under different names where they both like the same thing just makes no sense. All of us who like ponies need to stick together and unite as one. I think the people (or person) who started this just don't understand what bronies are really all about (since they referred to bronies as "toxic," or at least that's what it seems like was implied) and want to avoid the negative stigma associated with bronies, which is really dumb, since by doing this they kind of perpetuate that negative stigma because the outside world will see this (IF it becomes big, of course) and just have another reason to think bronies are the stupidest thing to have ever happened.
