Eating alone vs. eating with people

I prefer to eat alone because I don't have to multitask by talking and eating at the same time. But eating with others can be fun as long as one doesn't have a cold or dirty.

All my life needed was a sense of someplace to go. I don't believe that one should devote his life to morbid self-attention. I believe that someone should become a person like other people.

Thank you all who replied lately for keeping this thread alive after being dead for about 4 months!

Special thanks to  for reviving the thread! *hugs*

For the record, I still like eating WITH people since I like talking while having a nice meal. BUT I still enjoy eating alone since I can be totally conscious about the taste.

Christmas is coming and with it, a lot of food! Wish you all get to eat delicious foods happily these holidays!

I can enjoy both really. I don't mind who I eat with or if I eat alone. Eating alone means I can think to myself. However eating with others I can talk and discuss whatever we want.

It depends where I am most cases. School mainly to myself in my apartment unless I'm with my blockmates. At work it depends on the circumstances. Everyone else prefers to have a quick meal all to them selves and be ripe and ready when break ends there isn't much interaction that happens at those times around our break area.

I prefer being alone with myself at all times, however, I feel extremely lonely and awkward when eating by myself:

I'd rather eat alone, anyday. For me, eating time=reading time, and I don't like to be distracted when I'm trying to get into a good book ;) Besides, I just prefer a quiet atmosphere in general- noisy eaters get on my nerves for some reason... :okiedokielokie:

I prefer to eat alone. When I eat alone I usually watch something on Netflix or Youtube.
When I eat with people though, I usually eat somewhat fast.. unable to 'favor the flavor'

I enjoy eating at my own pace.. and I prefer to not talk while eating.

I prefer having company of some kind. Even if we don't have anything or much to say to each other, it's just nice sharing a meal and sharing some time with other humans. Eating together sometimes has a way of sparking conversations that wouldn't otherwise happen, most of the time. I've found that some people I've sat with before without any meal to focus on had difficulty speaking, but put some nibblies in front of them and they open up. Why is this? I don't know. Surely there have been some studies about it. All I know is it tends to make everything more interesting.

The only time I ever prefer to eat alone is during my lunch at work. I deal with really obnoxious and frustrating people all day. An occasional break is sometimes welcome. >_>

Once thing I miss about living here is eating dinner with my parents every night. As much as the food itself, I looked forward to sitting down with them and having conversations, even if it was only about what we did that day. Conventions are a good example too. When I think of my friends I often see at conventions, I think first of the meals we've had together. Despite walking around with each other all day and doing a bunch of stuff together, it's always the meals that come to mind first. Lots of good memories to be made while breaking bread.

I prefer eating alone, but I'm cool if it's close friends. I do enjoy my privacy, though.

I can eat with you any time though, right? :D

If you're a girl, you should know. (Society is to blame!) Eating is definitely hard for me to maintain in public. Being a lady you can't belch or chew with your mouth open without getting stares. (Those are things that I do. A lot more than I should) I don't have this problem at home, but even at school and around my friends I have to make eating food difficult. Of course, It's generally rude in public and is uncouth even for guys but honestly I get so much stares for occasionally doing those things (usually on accident) that I can't help but prefer to eat alone at any moment.

You know, I'm a guy, and I can't even do those things in public without getting stares and disgusted looks. I wish we could all just belch loudly and eat comfortably. >_>

It depends.  On a day to day basis, I prefer eating alone.  It's just easier, more practical, and I don't have to watch my table manners as much.  But enjoying a meal with family, friends, or coworkers has its benefits, so I definitely enjoy those moments too.  I guess I just don't like eating with others most of the time.  :)

Eating alone. Its not comfortable when I eat with people. Also more you talk with people while eating, more food you won't be able to eat.

I hope you didn't think I discredited guys at all. ^^' I was simply pointing out that females are treated more harshly in that sense than males.

Social norms suck.

Sorry if I sent that impression. Not at all. I do understand where you're coming from. I just mean that while people seem to expect that sort of behavior from males whereas they don't from females, we still can't do that sort of thing without anyone batting an eye. And I just wish that we could all just do what comes naturally and not try to front for one another.

I understand that it can be gross but yeah, I think too much restriction to how we eat does more damage than not. I know plenty of people who have social anxiety originating from too much critical comments on how and what they ate. It's ridiculous.
