Second of all, just because you don't like it doesn't make it fucking awful, breh. kthxbai

In my opinion it does, maybe not for other people though. Could we stop talking about In Flames before I end up vomiting? Seriously, this is making me sick.

Guys, guys. Come one, look at yourselves.

Everyone needs to take a sec and have a fat blunt chill pill and relax. We're allowed to not like the same things. That's what makes this thread so interesting, isn't it?

Listen to something soothing like AAL or something, I dunno. Whatever makes you happy I guess ;)

I like how I'm going to listen to their entire discography, like I do with any band.

hahahahaha I made a funny

Anyway, I realized that I may have underrated Periphery II a little bit. I really like most of the album, and I've been listening to "Luck as a Constant" and "Make Total Destroy" a lot lately. And of course "Have a Blast" because that's like one of the best songs I've heard this past year probably. I think it's just the last like 5 songs I don't care for as much, but even those aren't bad at all. But yeah, there's some great songs on that album.

metalcore

I don't always listen to metalcore but when I do...

This was actually the first album I listened to by them. At first listen, I really liked it.

CARCASS INVENTED MELODIC DEATH METAL NOT IN FLAMES!!!

Well it's true, Heartwork came out in 1993 and Lunar Strain didn't come out until 1994.

Carcass' later albums weren't "soft". They were pretty heavy, Swansong is heavier sounding than Whoracle. *Gets attacked by In Flames fans in 3, 2, 1...*

Did I ever say In Flames invented Melodeath? No I did not. As for hardness, I said "less hard", not "soft", it's relative to their previous work. In regards to hardness, Grindcore > Melodeath > Alternative Metal. Anyway, hardness is subjective.

The only Metalcore bands that I know you like are BTBAM and Converge (two great choices bro). You seem to like the Metalcore stuff that leans more towards the extreme music influences, try listening to Deadguy, Rorschach, Coalesce, and Trap Them. I think you'd like those bands.

Also I might as well jump on the whole list your favorite genres thing:

Metalcore

Black Metal

Grindcore

Melodic Death Metal

Post-Metal

Sludge Metal

Progressive Metal

My favorite metal subgenres go like this (and I'll also put my favorite band in each genre next to the genre name):

Metalcore (mostly old-school stuff) (Converge)

Progressive metal (including "djent" bands (it's still not a genre)) (Between the Buried and Me)

Black metal (mainly atmospheric, "hipster" BM (but fuck that)) (Liturgy)

Blackgaze (Deafheaven)

Post-metal (ISIS)

Grindcore (Pig Destroyer)

Powerviolence (Weekend Nachos)

Man, am I the only one here who doesn't like the more extreme metal genres? Like I think the most extreme thing I listen to is probably Between the Buried and Me. I really feel out of place here.

Powerviolence (Weekend Nachos)

I though the whole idea behind Powerviolence was that it was Grindcore with all of the Metal taken out.

Weekend Nachos are just really angry hardcore. Too much metal influence to be considered powerviolence.

This is powerviolence.

Eh? Nandatte?

Many powerviolence bands have metal elements in their sound, with bands like Nails, Weekend Nachos, and Hummingbird of Death having a notable sludge influence. The idea is mostly to write really short songs with a lot of energy and blazing fast playing.

Well, you do like Metallica and Megadeth. They're both thrash metal, thrash metal is like borderline extreme metal.

I'll check them out.

Anyways these are the subgenres I like:

Thrash

Death

Black

Doom

Sludge

Progressive (I like Opeth, Tool, etc., I'm not really into stuff like Dream Theater.)

Grindcore

A little bit of metalcore (BTBAM, Converge)

Melodic Death Metal

Traditional Heavy Metal

Crust Punk (Darkthrone's later stuff)

Crossover Thrash

Industrial (Fear Factory)

and...

the only power metal album I like is Keeper of the Seven Keys Pt.1 by Helloween. Power metal just isn't my thing.

lol no, I mean stuff like grindcore, death metal, deathcore, black metal, etc.

I definitely wouldn't call Metallica or Megadeth extreme metal.

Extreme Metal is really an acquired taste, some people can't get into the extreme stuff, while others are able to ease themselves into it, but it just takes a long while to get into. And yeah, I hope I'm not the only one who was shocked to find out that you were a fan of Between The Buried And Me. Anyways, you do like Metalcore so I guess that's a start, what other Metalcore bands do you listen to? Maybe I can give a few suggestions for you.

Well I had never even listened to BTBAM before until Crispy posted them, and for whatever reason, I checked them out and ended up really liking what I heard.

In terms of metalcore, I like mostly:

Avenged Sevenfold

Atreyu

Trivium

Trivium? Damn you're full of surprises, but anyways you like Metalcore that's easier to get into with the exception of a few more Extreme related bands. Basically, you like the newer wave Metalcore. You should probably go check out As I Lay Dying and Killswitch Engage (Though I doubt that you haven't heard of them), since you like BTBAM then maybe Shai Hulud since they're another Metalcore band that takes influence from Progressive, and you might possibly like Converge's more recent songs. Try songs like Coral Blue, Aimless Arrow, or Dark Horse. The newer Norma Jean stuff might appeal to you as well.

Dude I've posted Trivium in here a billion times, it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone in this thread that I like Trivium lol

I have heard a bit from As I Lay Dying and Killswitch Engage before.

I guess I've missed those posts, oh well, whatever. Cool that you've heard some songs by As I Lay Dying and Killswitch Engage.

Anyways leaving this Converge song, since I mentioned it before, it's been stuck in my head.

Oh, well those two are pretty "mainstream" melodic metalcore bands. Some of the first metalcore I listened to, actually. Probably what got me into more metal and metalcore. I'd recommend Shadows are Security from AILD, and The End of Heartache from KE.

Plus, Howard Jones from Killswitch is really sexy.

Yeah same here, Killswitch Engage and As I Lay Dying were the first Metalcore bands that I got into, also nice albums that you've recommended. Shadows Are Security is one of my favorite albums from As I Lay Dying.

R.I.P. Jeff Hanneman, you will be missed.

Man, I was not expecting this today.  I'm really quite shocked.

And I guess I'll also post Dream Theater.

Damn, Slayer were one of the few Thrash Metal bands that I liked, yeah we'll dearly miss you Jeff. First Chi Cheng of Deftones, and now Jeff Hanneman of Slayer. Who's next on the list of deaths this year?

Wait, Moog, do you like Trivium??? I didn't think you would like that band. What do you like from them? I personally like the albums Shogun and Ascendancy.

They're not the best Metalcore band I've listened to, though I don't hate them. Ascendancy is the only album of theirs that I've listened to, and in my opinion it's an alright album.
