Can anyone give me some Dream Theater song recommendations in case I wanna buy more DT stuff in the future?

Definitely "Metropolis Part 1" from Images and Words, then the entire album "Metropolis Part 2: Scenes From A Memory". Particularly "The Dance of Eternity". Brilliant stuff.

I just found some neo-classical death metal.  My life is now complete.  It's like, melodic death, but played by Yngwie Malmsteen.

Why did I forget how good Veil of the Maya was?
How did I lose [id] in my music folder?

Why am I asking these questions to no-one in particular?

Oh right, 'cause I'm lonely and bored.

Oh, also, I think I found my official "what-the-fuck-is-going-on-here-I-don't-even-know-I-just-fucking-love-this-shit" song.

GUESS WHO BACK MOTHERFUCKERS.

So yeah, metal and stuff.

Something enjoyable from a former member of Of Mice & Men? WHOOOOOOA DUUUUUUDE. This band also has a former Danza member though, which leads to this being CRAZY GOOD.

Polish one-man bands, brah.  Get you some:

Widek is a very talented musician.  He's similar in style with Gru (Piotrek Gruszka), another one-man Polish metal band, which isn't a bad thing.  They're both pretty badass; crankin' out spectacular djenty ambient prog instru-metal, and they often collab!

Holy shit dude, that's perfect.  Even better than Chimp Spanner.   And I thought Chimp Spanner was the epitome of djent influenced prog metal.

Anyway, have some Alice in Chains influenced gothic metal.

And then some old school death metal

Don't talk shit about grindcore, man.

Ever. Especially now that Djenty's active again.

Nu-metal is good for one thing, which is making reggae sound badass.

Ahaha, I was actually waiting to see what Djenty's response to that is.

Anyway, yeah.  The intricacies of mathcore; it's a beautiful thing.  Although I dig Protest The Hero, their vocalist.  Idk why I can't fully get into his voice.  His style kinda reminds me a of heavier Rob Halford though, which is pretty rad.

My all time favorite mathcore band is gonna be Fall of Troy.  Shit's insane:

What are you talking about I can't even

There is no pig squealing there. Grindcore is one of the best metal subgenres evah.

@, delving deeper into black metal. Today I went with Make A Change... Kill Yourself, Darkthrone, and I relistened to some Mayhem because I like that stuff.

When have those two ever been associated with each other? MAYBE I'vebeenshot, but nothing else.

In other news, Liturgy is a band that has a bad rep, but I like them. Hunter Hunt-Hendrix is a pretentious fuckhole, but that doesn't change the fact that Aesthethica throws so much innovation at you that it becomes really overwhelming to take in. Once you settle into it, the music does the work for you.

You know it's grindcore when the longest song on the album is 56 seconds long.

Gotta love Agoraphobic Nosebleed. Some insane drumming for sure.

EDIT: Programmed drumming, my bad.

Here.

Fill your earholes with some of this intense shit:

And for metalized songs right out of the show:

Now go tell your mama what you just did.

I've listened to those, those are awesome!!!

I love the medley with all the songs from the show.

Here's a really cool metal version of This Day Aria:

Metal remixes of pony songs?  Here's Smile Smile Smile by youtuber DusK:

Didn't think this was gonna turn out so good.  This song seemed really difficult to rearrange, but I was blown away.  Love the song even more!

Having a hardcore day today. First I listened to Botch's last studio release ever this morning, An Anthology of Dead Ends. This EP is showing Botch in all their post-We Are the Romans glory, writing more songs that have the same drive and spastic energy as said magnum opus, but also a lot of sobering and melodic moments as well. Highly recommended, especially as a supplement to WATR.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHkYItscqmc

I also relistened to Touché Amoré's second album, "Parting the Sea Between Brightness and Me" (I was wearing a TA shirt after all) and I've started Barrow's "Being Without" again (I know, Djenty, I know).

Remember kids, hardcore can be metal too.

A lesson Djenty taught me many moons ago. Also, +10 points for the Decompositions avatar.

Anywho, I've been pursuing some of my other musical genres recently, namely hip-hop and ska, but that's besides the point.

(Is there a such thing as ska-metal? o_o )

The point is folk metal.

Lol, never thought I'd see ska mentioned in the metal thread.

Ska music in general was a big part of my childhood, right along side metal.  @@Champion RD92, some cool ska bands you should check out: Save Ferris, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Catch 22, Streetlight Manifesto, early Less Than Jake.

Just to name a few.

Also, I previously mentioned Gru, a one man Polish metal machine.  Check his stuff out, it's freakin' awesome:

Anyone heard of a Danish band called Mercenary? They're melodic death metal/power metal. I got recommended to them from another forum because of Scar Symmetry, for those who might be interested. So yeah, low and high screams, super-high (not like, Rob Halford high, but still) clean singing, like up to F#5 in the chorus of "Bloodsong", which I've really taken a liking to lately.

Man, I just really like Mikkel Sandager's vocals. Their instrumentation is nice, with synths as well, if you're into that.

ISIS is gooooooooood shit. Oceanic is in my top 10 albums of all time.

Speaking of atmospheric sludge, I'm gonna get my hands on the new Cult of Luna album "Vertikal" very soon. I'm adding it to my list of things I plan to or have listened to in 2013 which you can find here.

Oceanic is one of my favorite albums

I have it on CD that I got from my music store

It was the last and only copy there

So I feel quite lucky for having it

I just listen to I, The Weapon an epic song

I'm probably gonna add Vertikal on my wishlist

Remember when Soundgarden was a metal band?  Because I don't.  But I still love their metal years.

They are the masters of alternative metal.
