ggg-2 3,553 July 3, 2014 Share July 3, 2014 Does she? Her parents could afford to enroll her in a magic school run by Celestia herself, and although we don't know Night Light's occupation, we DO know Velvet's. She's an author, and apparent recipient of the prestigious Daring Do award. 1 Don't be a nerd. Join the herd!
boiteporte 591 July 3, 2014 Share July 3, 2014 I don't know if she comes from a wealthy family. What I do know, though, is that apparently, she does not have to work in order to make a living. Well, we see her study but we never actually see her do a proper job as opposed to the others.
Pinkamena-Pills 6,839 July 3, 2014 Share July 3, 2014 As far as the magic school enrollment,Celestia most likely taught her for free due to her potential. Also she most likely let he stay at the castle for free also. Tho her family does look fairly well off and it wouldn't surprise me as she is from Canterlot. Oatmeal, are you crazy?! You just need to use a most likely master level time spell on a baby dragon, turning him into a behemoth and wowing the fuck out of everyone, that is after they've been turned back into ponies because you turned them into in-adamant objects Edited July 3, 2014 by Pinkamena-Pills 1 Oatmeal, are you crazy?! She was a librarian in magical tree house bookfort, though. Is librarian an actual job? I dunno, I guess it is.Also, considering she's from Canterlot, and the fact that her old house doesn't look like it's straight from the ghetto, AND the fact that Velvet's apparently an author and has won some Daring Do-related price, I'd say she comes from a pretty wealthy family, yeah. DoubleRainbow_Dash 317 July 3, 2014 Share July 3, 2014 Well we have seen that her family comes from Canterlot and their son is the prince.....no king, ya lets go with that, king of the crystal empire and their daughter is a princess so I will just take a wild guess and say can just take a Scrooge McDuck swan-dive into their vault full of bits.

Fhaolan 4,483 July 3, 2014 Share July 3, 2014 There's mixed signals on this one. Twilight, Shining, and what little we've seen of their parents, show signs of being from a family of relatively high rank, but low on the social ladder. They have access to opportunities, but lack confidence and don't assume that they're entitled to them. If I were to guess, I would say at the start of the series Twilight's parents were the equivalent to titled nobility but had neglected (or refused to play) politics and as such were 'outsiders' to the Canterlot elite. Financially comfortable, but not in any way secure because of that refusal to 'play the Canterlot game'.

I've also wondered how Shinning Armor made Captain of the Guard at such a young age. I'd like to think he's that good rather than his parents pulling strings. Wind Chaser 4,768 July 4, 2014 Share July 4, 2014 I always knew the Twilights had to be wealthy. Canterlot itself is populated mostly by high society. No common folk ever gets to rub shoulders with the power elite. Yes I would agree. Her parents have some means, but are not part of the elite it seems. I've also wondered how Shinning Armor made Captain of the Guard at such a young age. I'd like to think he's that good rather than his parents pulling strings. Well, you can have it both ways. You can be the best at what you do and never be noticed if you don't have the proper connections.
Demirari 454 July 4, 2014 Share July 4, 2014 Twilight Sparkle's parents must had come from a wealthy family seeing as they live in Canterlot. Based on assumptions that Canterlot living space are rather hitting on the wallet, one would have to have quite a bit of wealth to even live there. It is like one of our major cities and the more wealthy sections with all the nice homes and folks that earn more than they will ever need in their entire life time. One surely isn't going to find and buy a cheap house clustered around one-hundred-thousand or even more dollar homes.
Zoraxe 546 March 19, 2015 Share March 19, 2015 (edited) I guess Twilight's family might be upper middle-class. -edited because this post made no sense after this thread was merged with an older one. Edited March 19, 2015 by Zoraxe
Sintanan 151 March 19, 2015 Share March 19, 2015 (edited) I would think she is fairly well off, as she was enrolled in to what amounts to the biggest and most well-known private school in Equestria. However, we don't see Twilight's parents wearing causal suits and dresses like the rest of the upper class tend to do. In addition, Twilight was babysat by royalty, and her sibling was captain of the royal guard so her parents do have definite standing in the elite circles. Finally, before she even proved herself, Twilight practically had a direct line of communication with what amounts to the God-Empress of their land. It wouldn't be a stretch to say her family is definitely just shy of the haughty upper class, or an upper class family whom didn't allow their status to go to their heads. Ruby Tuesday 52 March 19, 2015 Share March 19, 2015 It wouldn't be a stretch to say her family is definitely just shy of the haughty upper class, or an upper class family whom didn't allow their status to go to their heads. I absolutely agree with this. I think that they must be in the upper class circles, but perhaps part of the reason why Princess Celestia took such an interest in Twilight so early on (it's implied that she knew about her before the dragon egg exam) was because her family had some good standing and didn't take their status for granted. Pastel 7,630 March 19, 2015 Share March 19, 2015 Her parents are definitely well-off. But now that Twilight is alone, I guess her parents financially helped her (maybe not anymore since she's a princess, she must have some privileges now).
KrazyDashie 1,847 March 19, 2015 Share March 19, 2015 they seem well off (and by the looks of it, most ponies in canterlot seem wealthy) so I guess upper class? (around there) 20% cooler in 10 seconds flat
ggg-2 3,553 March 19, 2015 Author Share March 19, 2015 Maybe. Her mother is an author and recipient of the Daring Do Award, and she and her brother both were enrolled in Princess Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns and the Royal Guard Academy respectively, (and also Canterlot Academy in Shining Armor's case for High School) both of which presumably required an enrollment fee, as in real life, with both schools being rather prestigious, thus needing a presumably heftier enrollment fee. Sintanan 151 March 19, 2015 Share March 19, 2015 Also, I wouldn't put it past Celestia to give Twilight a sizable stipend as her favorite student to help Twilight settle in Ponyville. sweetolebob18 728 March 19, 2015 Share March 19, 2015 Twilight's family is probably LUCky (Lower Upper Class) & well to do. Of course, that doesn't mean T is. Still, she had a free home & probably got paid something as Librarian. I'd say that of the Mane 6 either Rarity or AJ is richest (depends on how big the farm is) & Fluttershy is poorest. The others would be in the middle. No way to say what her income is now that she has her castle.
1Bit 1,531 March 19, 2015 Share March 19, 2015 Twilight is definitely from a rich background. not only because of her canterlot origins but also from the family's connections with the princess. 1 ---< Fanfic Writer, Music Maker, Film Director and Voice Actor >--- Don't expect anything incredible though! Petrus 696 March 19, 2015 Share March 19, 2015 I think the reason why she has all that stuff is because Celestia takes such good care of her. That's my opinion. §I Was Born Awesome, Not Perfect§
Zoraxe 546 March 19, 2015 Share March 19, 2015 It could be that Twilight could go to Celestia's school for gifted Unicorns is because education isn't outrageously expensive in Equestria.
