So... has this happened to you? You are watching an anime, playing a card game, seeing a movie... and suddenly you see it. The patterns align in your mind, you make the connections... and suddenly you can't unsee it.

"This character really looks like X from MLP:FiM!"

Well if it has then i got good news for you... you're not the only one. So... open the spoiler below and tell me what you see.

((If in any case this pic appears suggestive i am willing to delete it. In no way do i want to break forum rules. Guess i'm just being paranoid.))

So that was Nyx and Hemera aka Night and Day in Ancient greek. So... i read their lore and...

"Being the user of "Midnight Lullaby", she is the goddess who reigns over nights of the Sanctuary. Her power increased with the darkness of night, but she lost her strength when the sun rises. By sharing mana with "Hemera", the goddess who was born at the same time with her, she could unleash her full strength during the day if she was accompanied by Hemera. She is awakened slightly later than Hemera, which makes her the "younger sister", but no one could discover this at the first sight."

And i'm like... oh my god Luna and Celestia? SWEET!!! Man i'd love to see this ponified.

So here's my question, my point. Have you ever felt characters relating to other characters in MLP? Can you show us some? Why do you feel they relate? Would you like to see said characters in a crossover or ponified?

It took me a while to recognise both characters, then I was like "Ohhhh.... Ἡμέρα and Νύξ" (I need to get out of the library more :(

Whats interesting is, in the Hesiod version Hemera is the daughter of Nyx, also the interchange between Night and Day results in one descending to Tartarus in the other's place. Far less cosy than their Canterlot castle;)

@, exactly! Their home is cited as impenetrable where Titans can't escape and as a place of fear even to the gods. :D Not to mention, Celestia and Luna (Cadence too) both entered and exited Tartarus (with their magic restored, their escape was fairly straightforward as it was apparently for Hemera and Nyx :) )

@, have you ever checked out Perseus online? They reproduce both the Greek/Latin versions of myth and old translations too ;) Its a good place to go if you ever want to check a myth or story out quickly :D

You know the Elements of Harmony guidebook that came out a while ago? I would love it if they did one about the Mythology of Equestria where they discuss their inspirations etc. :) This would be my dream come true :squee:

@, I've never played it but Im just checking it out now/

This is rather obscure, but Steven Magnet reminded me of the legend of Sedna. The reason for this is, in order to reduce the hostility of the waters and to be able to hunt prey, Shamans had to appease Sedna by combing her hair/ sea plants. The water only becomes accessible for the ponies to do what they desire once Steven's hair/moustache fiasco is resolved by Rarity.

Its a huge stretch but I thought I'd go for it anyway :P
