How will the CMC get their cutie marks?

Forlong

Since just about everyone has been asking for the CMC to get their cutie marks, and it was part of Lauren's original vision for the show, I thought this would be a good topic to cover.

Here's my thoughts on the mater:

Applebloom

A pony named Gearhead comes to town, saying he's an old friend of AJ's parrents and wants to help her make Sweet Apple Acres great with mechines.  Applejack is not cool with the idea, and it comes to a head with her competing against the mechine and hurting herself in the prossess.  Applebloom realizes that AJ is being to stubborn and somepony has to tell her off (maybe with Luna's help?).  Applebloom gets Gearhead to tell AJ how he became friends with their parrents, which gives AJ context to why Gearhead thinks the way he does and accept him.  Applebloom realizes that she can get ponies to work together in a way no pony else can.

Sweetie Belle

Sapphire Shores visits Rarity's shop and overhears Sweetie Belle singing.  Seeing that Sweetie Belle has real tallent, she tries to help her shine.  Rarity tries to explain that Sweetie has stage fright, but she won't listen.  Sweetie Belle struggles to get away from Sapphire.  Eventually, Fluttershy talks calmly to the two of them, convincing Sapphire that she overstepped her bounds and Sweetie that she needs to face her fears.  You can tell where it goes from there.

Scootaloo

Upset to be only foal left in her class with no cutie mark, Scootaloo visits Discord for comfort.  Discord offers to take her on as an apprentice, but secretly tells Scoots parrents to let her stay over with him.  He puts Scootaloo through a serries of "tests" that gradually reveal to her what her true tallent is.

I like your idea for Applebloom and Sweetie Belle, but not for Scootaloo.

Instead of Discord, I think Rainbow Dash will help Scootaloo to get her cutie mark. When she will teach her how to fly for example.

Short answer, they won't during the show's run. long answer, they WWWWWWWWOOOOON'T. am I the only one who thinks the crusaders have little to no character beyond trying to get their cutie marks? once they get them, that pretty much all they can do with them.

I'm pretty sure we already know what their talents are but as far as how they get them...I think they just have to realize who they are and have that be put to test in some kind of event for each individual one of them.

Also, technically, Applebloom should be the last to get her cutie mark as the first episode we ever properly see her in where she's trying real hard to find who she is foreshadows that she will be last due to the apple family in general always being last to get their cutie marks in their class.

Actually their talents may well be far FAR different from what we thought they were back in "The Show Stoppers."  Apple Bloom has shown a REAL talent for potion making.  Her cutie mark might have nothing to do with either apples or carpentry.  Sweetie Belle's magic is REALLY coming along.  Maybe her talent is not singing.

I think season 5 should have season long story concerning the crusader club and should focus on the younger generation instead of the mane six as their journey is nearly complete. I would wish that Applebloom starts showing off her leadership potential by overcoming a significant problem in the first two episodes, aided by Princess Twilight. I envisioned a situation where ponies would come from a distant land and would have a hard time adapting to Ponyville life. Apple Bloom would befriend one of the younger ponies and asks where she comes from. At the end, she would join the crusaders as these distant ponies also have the concept of cutie marks. Afterwards, Sweets and Scoots would learn their special talents in special episodes with songs and all that. Sweetie Belle would earn a singing mark and Scoots would be a mechanic or something. I don't know but she can't fly at all. Apple Bloom would be the third and hardest to earn near the end of the season. It would be a logo of the cutie mark crusaders social club with an apple in the center replacing the filly with a cape. Her talent is being a natural born leader for inspiring youth.

i got my money on Apple bloom being good with potion making, thus building the relationship between the apple family and Zecora. I mean, that one episode 'princess time' or whatever it was called where the CMC was spending time with Twilight. you see Apple bloom being kinda good at her task.

but i agree that Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo will be singing and Something to do with 'going fast with wheels'

My Thoughts

Apple bloom will augment her apple skills (for example: cider making) with the knowledge that she learned with potion making.

Sweetie Bell: I don't have a head cannon for her.

Scootaloo will discover formation based scooting.

One will get their cutie mark within a few seasons before the other two and this will cause stress, but in the end it will be cleared up.  [i'd like it to be a two part show]

Love the idea for Applebloom ...love love love it.

. I do think that Rarity would be more supportive or involved with the Fluttershy aspect (Filly Vanilli Consistency)

Scootaloo's will come with some RD influence. I'm almost certain of that. I would actually prefer Gilda or Lightning Dust to be an additional catalyst over Discord.

Their cutie marks will be granted to them by Zordon, as the mane 6 have been turned into children with Lord Zedd's evil time control spell. But they don't have unlimited time, and they must hurry to find a way to turn the mane 6 back into adults, before their entire planet is doomed!

And like the rest of the fine folks on this thread, I agree in saying that Rainbow Dash should be more involved with Scootaloo's event, and Rarity, being a big sister, should be the one to communicate with the pop star and Sweetie, rather than Fluttershy.

Just like the Wonderbolt's Accedemy wasn't brought up again.  OH WAIT!  It was.

Season 5 will have an episode wherein Soarin' will get hurt and Rainbow Dash has replace him.

"season 5 will contain an episode wherein Soarin gets injured and Rainbow has to replace him" ....that was Rainbow Falls, it's not gonna be in season 5. and Rainbow Falls was before Testing Testing 1 2 3. unless you have proof.

Heya @Forlong and @ggg-2, I know it's tangentially related to the topic, but some of this stuff about Rainbow Dash becoming a wonderbolt and future plotlines related to that is dragging things a little off course. It'd probably be best for you to continue your discussion of that elsewhere, either in PMs or an appropriate topic :).

As for how I think they'll get their marks, interesting ideas Forlong. I've thought of it being some situation where they'd be forced to use their abilities to put on a show for others, calling back to Show Stoppers, but like Miaq said, I agree that something involving their sisters would be much more touching and satisfying. For Scoots in particular, I'm hoping that it'll involve Rainbow Dash helping her realize that she's an awesome and talented pony, even if she can't quite follow in Rainbow's hoofsteps (or wingbeats :( )

I think I have a theory as to why their cutie mark is not appearing: It's because they're actively trying to see if it will appear.

Think back to Cutie Mark Chronicles and how the Mane 6 got theirs:

What do they all have in common besides Rainbow Dash's Sonic Rainboom? They were all NOT focusing on getting their cutie mark, and it appeared when they found their purpose in life.

Twilight: Becoming Celestia's student.

Applejack: Realizing Sweet Apple Acres was her home.

Fluttershy: Discovering she can communicate with animals and wanted to care for them

Pinkie Pie: Sharing her happiness with others in the form of a party

Rarity: Finding beautiful gemstones to help make other ponies look their best through fashion.

Rainbow Dash: Discovering she loves flying fast and winning!

In all the above, save Twilight, none of them had the appearance of their cutie mark pointed out to them. I believe if the CMC actually stop asking, "Did our cutie mark appear?" and checking their flanks, the probability will go from "Never" to "Will Someday" Whether or not this will happen onscreen in the show or not, that remains to be seen.

Yeah, sort of like the eastern philosophy story about the student asking "how long until I gain enlightenment?" & the master says "perhaps 10 years" & the student says "That's too long! How about if I do extra work & try really hard?"  &  The master says "20 years".  The student says "But, I will try even harder! I will not cease in my efforts!" & the master says "Then it will take all your life -if it can be done at all"

Being born, dying, & possibly getting married are more important than getting your cutie mark.  Otherwise, it is just about the most important thing in your life.  You will notice that the CMCs are told "You are going about it all wrong" but nobody tells them "it's not important"  It flat out sucks to be teased because you are the last.  It sucks almost as much to be told "be patient" all the time. I think adults are fairly tolerant of the CMCs efforts because they remember & understand.

You have a good point, but I think that they aren't backwards -- after all RD seems to think that the CMC way will work.  But I think it's more subtle -- like looking through your belongings for your glasses when they're on your head.  You're so busy looking for them there that you don't look at yourself

I don't think the CMC will get their cutie marks, Because its the one thing that sets them apart from the rest of the other ponies. I they will get there cutie marks at the end of the show or something like that. But it cannot be revealed until the next season.

Probably when they least expect it, honestly. They're always looking so hard for their cutie marks, they never try to let it come naturally. I think when they let their guard down is when they'll appear. ^^

I think you have it backwards; if they are not enamored enough with their current activity to forget about looking for marks then that's a sign that they don't have their marks yet.

'Course RD in her story looked as she got her mark; so whatever!

I would kind of like to see them get complimentary cutie marks because whatever their talents are going to be, they have shown that they share a tenacity fueled by their friendship. I don't want to see matching cutie marks (that would be tacky and defeat the point of a cutie mark), but maybe their marks could all share a colour scheme or perhaps when placed next to each other they could form a larger picture. Just something to commemorate the teamwork that brought them to the goal. It could be a lesson about how an individual's unique qualities shine their brightest with the support of friends.

Something else I just thought of: Each CMC could finally do the action that makes her cutie mark appear while helping one of the others. So she wouldn't be focused on herself at all, she would only be thinking in the best interests of her friend and when it's over she doesn't even realize the mark has appeared until someone points it out.

Examples:

Sweetie Bell is about to fall off a cliff or something and Scootaloo pulls off some crazy scooter moves to get there in time to save her.

Scootaloo's scooter breaks right before the big race and Apple Bloom uses her tinkering skills to fix it in time for the start, and even improve on the design.

Some apple-eating monster is terrorizing Sweet Apple Acres and threatening Apple Bloom's livelihood. Even Fluttershy is powerless to stop it. Sweetie Belle pacifies it with a hypnotic siren song and lures it back into Everfree.

By the way OP, it's "matter".

Also, just wanted to point out that I think your stories are pretty awesome. Why not try to write a fan fiction that plays your ideas out? ^^
