Okay, I have a problem. I can add vocals to songs but everyone keeps telling me to "auto tune" them. I have no idea how to do that and when I try, it sounds even shittier. Can anypony help me out?!

Bump. Anypony care to help? Vocals/Vocal Chopping is something that is hardly ever explained in detail...

If you're using FL studio there's an effect called pitcher that can be tweaked to be used as auto tune. You can probably find a tutorial on youtube for it, hope this helps :)

Are you using a sampler, or an audio track?

In FL Studio there is a sampler type plugin that I load acapellas into and chop up vowels and other snippets. I can send it to the piano roll and I use the various keys (c#5, d4, etc) to "play" the chops.

No, I'm trying to have the vocals not sound a little flat as some have told me. Personally, I don't think it needs a lot of tuning, but I can't get it to work (tried using GSnap, KeroVee, AutoTalent, Pitcher, and Newtone). It either sounds distorted or it sounds more out of tune.

Also the plugin Slicex does not have an auto tuning ability (to my knowledge).

No one else has mentioned this, but Auto Tune is a proprietary technology made by Antares Audio Technology. They make auto-tune devices, as well as VST plugins for DAWs.

If somebody is telling you to "auto-tune your vocals" and they're not more specific than that, then they don't know what they're talking about. Auto-tune should only be used when recording for creative or artistic purposes, not to actually tune your voice. Singing on-pitch in the studio is better than relying on expensive hardware or software to fix your mistakes.

The only time when I'm mildly in favor of auto-tune for actually tuning voices is live pop performances, because most pop singers really can't hold a pitch and need every ounce of help they can get. I'd take cheating with Auto Tune over somebody embarrassing themselves on-stage any day (unless it's Justin Bieber - let him mess up).

You can manually alter the pitch in Audacity (i don't know about FL studio).  If you sing off key, try Audacity.  It's simple but effective.

If you sing in key, then forget the haters.  Auto-tuning is overused.  Your voice will sound more natural without it.
