Well... yeah. There's really not a need for entertainment purely for entertainment's sake. Sure it's fun, but I don't see how it actually genuinely benefits people. Fun could just as easily be had in other, more productive ways.

That is an unbelievably depressing way to look at the world if you think about it. Life is way way too short and sometimes for the very sake of sanity it is good to just let loose, not worry and just have some fun just because.

The really puzzling thing is that people don't freak out as much about violence as they do about sex even though I think violence has even more potential to disturb than sex and I am saying this as a guy who laughed his ass off when he read cupcakes.

Oh I agree, its always been weird to me that gore, which often features the murder and torture of ponies, is often more palatable to people than watching ponies have sex. I think it speaks volumes about the way sex and violence are both viewed in our culture, but that's getting a bit off topic.

You're saying that R34 isn't a good thing (which the topic is asking whether it's a good thing or not) so it isn't off-topic, because it's why you find fault in it and hence, why you feel it's a bad thing.

 

1.) I think being entertained in general is benefiting to people because it makes them happy. I don't know about you, but happiness is good. R34 is a form of entertainment.

 

2.) Watching a movie or playing a videogame isn't very productive, unless it's an educational game or a documentary, which, let's face it, aren't really what most people watch/play. R34 is no different than either of those mediums as it was created for enjoyment, just of a different kind.

But by that logic wouldn't that desire only get stronger every time it is sated even within the confines of marriage? I agree that people shouldn't pull down their pants and start wanking it on the streets, even a perv like me has enough restraint not to do that but the problem is that urges are talked about as if they are these evil monsters that are coming to get you. If I got off literally every time I felt the urge I would have been arrested for indecent exposure a million times over. I will admit it wasn't but I found a happy medium between keeping things in my pants and taking care of things when the time is right. I explore and sate my sexual urges enough to take the edge off but not so much to where it runs my life.

Not necessarily. Video games can improve your hand-eye coordination, memory, etc. Movies can inspire you or change your perspective on something. As far as I know, you aren't going to receive any benefits such as those from viewing pornography. And it isn't really entertainment, it's fulfilling sexual desires. So I don't think that's a fair comparison.

"is meant"? Buddy, we're animals. There's no plan set in place for how we fulfill our sexual desires. Look at other animals. They masturbate and have sex and run with other individuals.
