Yeah... I got announced a few days ago... http://mlpforums.com/topic/106714-revenge-of-the-mods-now-with-extra-ninjas/

Edited cause I can't tell time.

I just read it, and congratulations. It sounds like you deserved the spot.  :)

Trust me. They have. Its not that hard to figure that out.

No, actually, we haven't. As Dawn Rider said, Simon is only the first of many. When we have enough moderators, we'll make sure everyone knows.

Do you guys have a maximum number of people you're accepting now?

Although we've received applications from many qualified individuals, there's only a limited number of positions available. We won't say how many we need, but we definitely still need people. If your application is good, but all positions are already filled, it'll be deferred to be revisited next time.

Are you guys checking applications sorted by first-to-last?

if i may ask, what are the commitments to be put in?
Being a moderator is a lot of work... if you're concerned about the commitment, I'd suggest just making sure to note your availability and what you can do in your application and the staff can take it into consideration that way.

Since we're looking at applications as they come, earlier applications will receive priority. That doesn't mean you'll automatically be denied if you aren't the first to apply, however. If we deem you a fit for the team, we'll do our best to make room for you. Otherwise, you'll be among the first we'll turn to once a position opens up.

You'll need to be active more often than not. We want to evenly distribute the workload so that no single moderator has to deal with dozens of reports. That's a sure way to burn out, and since it's been responsible for many moderators' departures, we want to combat this problem.

Okay, so if you applied among the first bunch, you'll recieve earlier feedback? (Sorry for all the questions.) :D

Right. We'll do our best to get back to you sooner if you applied earlier. Simon, for example, was among the first to apply, so we were able to run background checks and interview him earlier than others.

Interview? So this is new.

Imagine if you will being on your death bed – And standing around your bed – the ghosts of the ideas, the dreams, the abilities, the talents given to you by life.

And that you for whatever reason, you never acted on those ideas, you never pursued that dream, you never used those talents, we never saw your leadership, you never used your voice, you never wrote that book.

And there they are standing around your bed looking at you with large angry eyes saying "We came to you, and only you could have given us life! But now. We must die with you FOREVER!

The question is – if you die today, what ideas, what dreams, what abilities, what talents, what gifts, would die with you?

Interview? So this is new.

Nope, we mentioned this before (emphasis added):

As SCS and Dawn Rider explained, the application process is rigorous, and if anything, it only raises standards for potential candidates. Our traditional method worked when the community was smaller, back when even uninterested moderators could still keep the streets clean. That no longer works, and moderator apathy has proven to be one of our greatest problems in the past year.

The application, first and foremost, is a tool meant to supplement our original procedure. We're not going to hire you just because you applied. We'll still be following you, watching you, talking to you, and generally stalking scrutinizing you. Your warning history still matters, as do your activity level, attitude, and maturity. If necessary, we may also interview you, formally or informally. All we want is for you to tell us that you're interested, and a powerful application will help us determine that.

We're of the belief that a single passionate, effective moderator is worth more than ten apathetic, ineffective moderators. We don't take this process lightly, and that's why we only unveiled it after months in the making.

Look at you guys, all so excited, waiting for the picks to show up like names being drawn for a lottery. Waiting to be granted titles so that you can make tough decisions and get just as much stress and grief as you do gratification for having a badge to help the forum out. It's so cute!

x) Mod job is no picnic, and I still see people in here applying on the fly, who I'm not convinced truly understand just what the job entails, yet. Nothing wrong with that of course, everyone learns one way or the other, but it's better to be on guard for things than it is to blindly run full-steam ahead with the idea that the pros will outweigh the cons, and you'll be fine, only to end up getting your block knocked off by a surprise. Like one or two (maybe more, this topic has gotten big fast, surprise suprise) people have mentioned, there are noticeable cons that go hand-in-hand with the pros. These pros and cons increase and decrease in intensity based on how active you are and how you handle the position, as well. Factors, factors and some more factors while we're at it.

It's a burden as well as a privellage, a challenge as well as an honor. And on a forum this size, it's not something you can just sort of carry around and not have to worry about. If you're not sure you're ready for it, it's far wiser to not jump at the chance just because there are some mod openings at the moment. Wait it out, study, learn, try simpler jobs, try moderation elsewhere on a smaller scale, etc. Build yourself even further than you currently are, it'll help you in general for situations like this, and in the real-world where jobs are even more cut-throat.

Okay I'm done x) Another late-night stream of conciousness rant for everypony.

And truly, good luck to those who applied. You will need it :umad:

It all depends on the person, whether they can handle a big role like that and get things done that need to be done.

That's precisely why they need Mauds mods, to handle the forms, and make it a safe, fun, and friendly environment. :)

Yes, a question just popped up in my mind. How are you going to interview people ? By PMs ?

I'm asking this because :

provided my application was indeed sent correctly and I make it through to the next stage, if you consider using Skype, then I think you should know that I only use Skype for professional calls when needed and that my Skype ID is not to share.

Unless I can create a secondary account on Skype. I don't know whether this is possible or not.

We prefer that interviews be conducted live, so a Skype call would be ideal. Additionally, Skype is a useful tool for speedy and effective collaboration, and staff meetings are generally held on Skype. While we'd be willing to provide accommodations if necessary, having a Skype account will be a significant boon to your application.

It's certainly possible to create multiple Skype accounts, of course. I also have an account that I reserve strictly for professional purposes, but I created an account specifically for use on MLP Forums.

Also, we did indeed receive your application. Good luck!

Alright, that is perfectly fine. I'll go on and create a secondary account right away.

Whether I am accepted or not, it might come in handy anyway.

I'm not going to beat around the bush here: a Skype account is, for all intents and purposes, a requirement for becoming a moderator. You don't need to be particularly active on it, but you should at least have an account available for attending meetings that we may hold.

Not that many of us can afford to use the video hangouts or something that Skype has. Hell, I can't even afford to pay for my books. But if you're saying I just at least have the account, than I guess I'm okay.

Don't worry about costs. Skype's free services will be sufficient for our purposes. As far as I know, we've never had a situation where we needed to use paid services.
