Kyreth 194 March 29, 2012 Share March 29, 2012 I'm going to participate in this conversation from my comfortable position up here on the fence. I guess I see where they are coming from. It must feel pretty bad when someone you thought was close to you declares someone else to be their 'best' friend. It almost creates a system where some kids are more valuable as friends than others. That said, the concept of banning friendship just feels abhorrent to me. Sometimes a kid does only have one very close friend that they need to be 'best' friends with to feel accepted. I had a similar experience for a while in my primary school days. I can't make signatures. Sooo... yeah

Tteok 16 April 25, 2012 Share April 25, 2012 School shouldn't concern itself with trying to combat human tendencies, it's a waste of time. To gravitate to small groups where we feel accepted is how we are hardwired, very few people have gaggles of friends. I understand where these schools are coming from, but this is pretty silly. PixiGlow 36 April 26, 2012 Share April 26, 2012 My question is: what happens when for whatever dumb reason everyone else in school turns on that one kid and starts bullying them? Most kids can at least make one friend but if you have a stupid rule... who does that kid turn to? Stupid rule is stupid. Signature & Avatar Requests? Forlong 1,726 April 26, 2012 Share April 26, 2012 I love people blowing this completely out of proportion, thinking it will somehow bring about the absolute collapse of civilization. Its not that important for six-year-olds to have friends. There have been millions of children that grew up just fine without many friends. What is wrong with this is that it is completely stupid. You should focus on that. Check out my YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5qXAcUzrizEHvorGalU5jg?feature=watch
StingeMuffin 244 April 26, 2012 Share April 26, 2012 (edited) I really don't see the point in trying to keep kids from having 'best friends.' Kids are going to make them one way or another, whether their supervisors try to interfere or not. To me, not being able to have a best friend means not having anyone you can really trust and confide in. In my opinion, when everyone is only a 'friend,' really, they all just become acquaintances. : ( I love people blowing this completely out of proportion, thinking it will somehow bring about the absolute collapse of civilization. Otter 1,942 May 5, 2012 Share May 5, 2012 What's next, a mandatory "Heil Hitler!" chant at the beginning of every school day? Seriously, schools can't tell kids not to have friends! And what if the kids do make a best friend? What's the school gonna do, expel them? It's in our nature to want to have friends, you can't just tell a kid to go against their very nature and expect them to do it. Kids don't work like that. how even is otter and how can it be if
King Otrepony 27 May 6, 2012 Share May 6, 2012 (edited) This is another attempt at trying to keep the kids safe from the realities of life. Now I'm waiting for the part where schools close in favor of homeschooling, to add to the convenience of not having to leave the house and staying at home so that resources (the internet) are readily available - while at the same time ruining any chance of social activity among others of the same age and adding to child obesity or something because kids aren't going out after studies and playing like normal children should but instead staying inside the house watching television and rotting their brains with idiotic cartoons and dull, monotonous patterns. All I can say at this point is... your call. I go to school online at home, yet I have a few more friends than I did when I went to a traditional bricks and mortar school. I do not have the chance to "stay inside the house watching television and rotting their brains with idiotic cartoons and dull, monotonous patterns." I do schoolwork, then freinds, then MLP (Not dull, monotonous, or idiotoc). Nowhere on the list do I see myself being unsocialized. Edit: Sorry about that. I have had to spend literally a whole summer in the state capitol defneding online schooling at home. It is a bit touchy to me. :/ Edited May 6, 2012 by Otreabor Rainbow Dash: Alright, now these games will determine which one of you has the most important qualities I'm looking for in a pet. Speed, agility, guts, style. Coolness. Awesomeness. And radicalness. Twilight Sparkle: Aren't those last three all the same thing? Rainbow Dash: You would think that, Twilight. And that's why you would never qualify to be my pet.
NeverNeverland 1,940 May 6, 2012 Share May 6, 2012 Dude, that was an example. I just needed to prove a point to show what England is doing and why what they were doing is wrong. Edit: Sorry about that. I have had to spend literally a whole summer in the state capitol defneding online schooling at home. It is a bit touchy to me. :/ Now I'm going to regret this next passage - if you aren't under the age of 10, then my whole example shouldn't apply to you in the first place. It's supposed to apply specifically for kids in elementary school, who are trying to develop their skills, whereas 12 + year olds already developed these skills and are now trying to improve on them. All you are saying is home/online schooling is good. I'm saying that on the off chance that its mandatory for home schooling to take over public schooling, then it will be horrible for kids, not teens. Future Allie Way 185 May 6, 2012 Share May 6, 2012 This kids actually wonder what friendship could be But none will share it's magic with them until they get their flanks out of that school They'll have big adventures when they get out of there Finally having friends, they'll have tons of fun. (What can I say about a beautiful heart? D:) They will have faith and will be stronger (Emotionally, not literally ). They will be kind and will share kindness as well. It will be an easy feat AND THE MAGIC OF FRIENDSHIP WILL MAKE IT COMPLETE But they should get out of those schools first. Click here if you hate me :3 Formerly known as Holly Dash or Pastel.
