Rebecca has to alter her singing voice especially with Sunset so that she sounds different from Twilight. In Rainbow Rocks, she had a near identical voice to Twilight as heard in Welcome to the Show so they needed Rebecca to sound deeper.

That makes sense because, Sunset Shimmer's voice is deeper than Twilight's.

 

I bet Ashleigh Ball does voice altering for her characters, too.

Both she and Andrea Libman have to it more often since they voice two characters each while Rebecca Shoichet voices one character and sings for two though not as frequently.

Both Ashleigh and Andrea have had scenes where their respective voices end up talking to each other. An example would be Pinkie talking to Fluttershy. You have to admit that must make things pretty awkward at times.

That's because Sunset was originally created to be an anti-Twilight Sparkle, a Twilight 2.0 to be more specific, and served as a villainous foil to the Princess of Friendship. Now Sunset has become her own character and no longer acts as a foil to Twilight, yet the connection still remains as that's what fans prefer to see. It doesn't help that Sunset interacts with Sci-Twi more than she does with her other friends, but I attribute that to the writers wanting to maintain the connection.

The writers seem to think so but not in that sense of the word. They do enjoy writing scenes where Sunset interacts with Twilight--both versions--more than any other character since the two of them share a similar backstory.
