movies/tv Thoughts on movie sequels?

They're are movie sequels I really enjoyed like Toy Story 2, Spider-Man 2, Rainbow Rocks, etc.

But, I have seen more bad movie sequels like Son of The Mask, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengence, Seed of Chucky, Home Alone 4, A Christmas Story 2, etc.

So, movie sequels could be either good or bad it just depends.

I personally find movie sequels okay, as long as I get to see more action that involves something pertaining to the plot. Also seeing characters from the older movies makes it fun to watch, even if it's not as great as the first one. Most sequels usually don't give good/better reviews or ratings, it's just something like an aftermath or a prequel.

Some of my favourite movies are sequels, like Terminator 2, Shrek 2 and Shrek 4 Ever, Evil Dead 2 and the Army of Darkness, and finally I love Lady and the Tramp 2 - Scamp's Adventure and My Little Pony - Equestria Girls Rainbow Rocks. The sequels I don't like are Cars 2, Live Free or Die Hard, A Good Day to Die Hard, Robocop 3, G.I. Joe Annihilation, The Neverending Story 3, and all of the Howling sequels, plus some sequels disappointed me Neverending Story 2, Balto 2 Wolf Quest, Mulan 3, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3 and all of the Care Bear sequels. I do like sequels, if they develop the characters well, and continue the story, so that is why I loved Rainbow Rocks, it developed the human mane six, and redeemed Sunset Shimmer, I loved how well the movie was put together, now a movie like Balto 2, I was let down, because I wanted to know more about Balto, and see more of Jenna, moreover I wanted to learn more about Aleu, his daughter, who was a new character, finally I was conflicted at the end of the movie; I loved Aleu, but the story and plot was a morass of twists and reels, I was lost and had to see it over again to get it, nevertheless, as long as a sequel is a worth successor to the first movie, it can be a film to remember, and stand on its own.

Sequels are good as long as they hold up well to the original, which can be quiet a challenge. Toy Story 2 and 3 are the greatest sequels ever in my opinion, as they were just as good as the original film.

I saw a YouTube video a while back, I wish I remembered which one, but it basically said that sequels should be illegal. Sure, we'd lose gems like Spider-Man 2, Half Life 2, and etcertera, but imagine if every new movie, game, and book had to have a fresh and new idea. I think there is something there.

However, sequels are sometimes necessary because of new information that is added to the lore, or to cover up any plotholes that may have came from the source.

I'm on the fence about it.

I prefer some sequels to the originals: Toy Story 2 & 3, Spider-Man 2, The Dark Knight, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Terminator 2, Star Wars Episodes V & VI, and of course, Rainbow Rocks :D

If there is a sequel that impresses me, than it's likely that I like it better than the original. Toy Story 2 is a good example. While the original is okay, the models looked off and distracting. Luckily the sequel fixes that.

But otherwise I'm fine with sequels in general. They're, in my eyes, another movie to watch.

Like any movie (sequel or not) sometimes they're good and sometimes they're bad. Whenever you make a new movie you're always going to be rolling the dice. Sequels have a bit of a leg up because they're reusing elements that were already successful, but that far from guarantees anything.

Some movies end with cliffhangers and/or have a story that simply can't be properly told with only one movie.

Basically I'm ok with sequels as long as the stories are related.

Other than that, sequels usually feel forced to me. If a movie has a perfectly fine ending with no loose ends to tie up, there's no need to milk a perfectly fine film. There are obviously some exceptions, e.g. Aliens and the Indiana Jones series (except for the kingdom of the crystal skull)

...But that's just my opinion.

Often the sequels aren't as successful as the original film production I've found.

Sometimes sequels can be great I've found! Eg Toy Story 2, The Dark Knight (Batman) were excellent sequels, far better than the original movie. It really depends though it's often rare the sequel gets more attention.

The Shrek series comes to mind. Sure the sequel was pretty good, Shrek 2. But as they added movies and spinoffs it just got far more convoluted.
