Well, while I think @Envy has a point, in the end I wonder does Nintendo even do such HD remakes? Or would a HD remake of a game that old be fruitful?

I mean I have the HD remakes of the Ratchet & Clank and Sly Cooper games, but those were essentially a generation ahead of OoT and MM. The main reason I have a concern is because of the so-called "HD remake" of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time which, if you ask me, is a bit worse than the PS2 original. The sound, for the most part, is atrocious.

So, would a proper HD release of OoT/MM be feasible both finanicially and technically? Right now, I'm skeptical, but I'd love to see it.

Regardless, I'll be getting OoT as I never had a N64 during it's heyday (I have one now, but I have too many console hooked up anyway). I've alwayd wanted to play both OoT and MM, so at least this will give me that chance on the 3DS. :)

Wind Waker HD... Nintendo does it XD Anyways, definitely e try OOT and MM, they're in my opinion the best Zelda games out there, though never really played MM Much, I'm sure it's absolutely great :)

I'm not talking about an "HD remake" either, because "HD Remakes" are the same thing as a remastered port. OOT3D/MM3D are very close to being "HD remakes", just without the HD.

Although there is variation in all games and how they changed for "HD Remakes" (like KHI and II in their HD remake collections, have remade and orchestrated soundtracks, but most don't get that), at the end of the day, they're just remastered forms of their originals, not remakes.

I wanted to see Majora's Mask actually remade. Not this "take the original copy, redo a few models here and there, apply new textures and other small details otherwise" nonsense.

It's really hard to justify spending $40 on that for a 14 or so year old game. It's an N64 game, and those obviously still ported from the N64 graphics look out of place on the 3DS.

EDIT: Actually, I think in terms of how it generally goes, OOT3D and MM3D are much more remade than HD "remakes". So I definitely don't want that.

I am deeply offended by you calling it the NA Announcement Trailer :( It wasnt really NA only confirmed anywhere, so rude...

On another note, I am really looking forward to another 100 playthroughts of this game on my 3DS 83 Cant wait to do infinite mana goron cruising again.

I've been a huge supporter ever since the Operation Moonfall campaign ever since it began, and to see the fruits of our labour finally arrive at last...

I swear, I had no idea I was going to see this when I woke up this morning, now I just want to shout my excitement at the top of my lungs :yay:

Ah, my apologies then. I understand yah now, and I can agree.

I'd love to see both OoT and MM completely remade as well, but I just have doubts whether or not that would even be attempted simply because of cost and convenience. Honestly, that's what I wanted to see with PoP: Sands of Time instead of the mess we got.

I guess it's all perspective. For someone like me I'll take the remakes as I missed the N64 generation, and it gives me a good reason to spend time on my 3DS outside of Star Fox & NES classics. However, I do agree with you as well. The fans could've been a bit harder on Nintendo for fully remade versions of N64 classics.

What exactly do you mean by "remake"? I think you're misunderstanding the definition of remake.

Majora's Mask being released on Wii's Virtual Console and as part of the Collector's Edition disk for Gamecube, those were ports!

A remake offers a newer interpretation of an older work, characterized by updated or changed assets. A remake typically maintains the same story, genre, and fundamental gameplay ideas of the original work. The intent of a remake is usually to take an older game that has become outdated and update it for a new platform and audience. Remakes almost always include new graphics, altered gameplay, and remixed music. But may also include expanded stories, often to conform to the conventions of contemporary games or later titles in the same series in order to make a game marketable to a new audience.

For example, Pokemon "Red" and "Blue" for the original Gameboy had its remake in the form of "FireRed" and "LeafGreen" for the Game Boy Advance, just like Ocarina of Time originally for the Nintendo 64 had its remake for the 3DS. Most of the new graphics have to build from the ground up!

Just because the game play and story doesn't change all that much does NOT mean it is NOT a remake.

Regardless of your opinion, I'm still getting it!

Majora's Mask has been my favorite Zelda game for quite some time... With that said, I desperately wanted to see an actual remake of it, not the remastered port treatment that OOT3D was given.

Sadly, Nintendo knew they could make a quick buck, and that's exactly what they did. This "remake" looks even less overhauled than OOT3D. At times I can hardly tell that I'm seeing MM3D and not MM64.

The fans should have clamored for better. It doesn't look good at all.

I mean^ what do you actually want to see in it for you to consider it a remake?

Oh, I remember playing this game! I wasn't fond of the time mechanic and I ragequit when I couldn't beat the umpteen-billionth boss of the Stone Tower Temple.

But now that this is actually happening, I'm willing to give it another chance.

It's quite simple, really. Just look at movies and media of the like (anime). When a movie or anime is labeled a 'remake', you instantly know what it means. You know that you're not going to see the same movie/show you saw before with a few touch-ups here and there. That's what we call a remaster... And the vast majority of what is called "remakes" in gaming right now, are actually remasters.

Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen (alongside HeartGold/SoulSilver and the upcoming Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire) are, in fact, examples of remakes - Past games being built from the ground up on new hardware. It's obvious in all of these games that nothing from the previous games' builds have been reused. They are fully rebuilt and reimagined on new hardware.

OOT3D and MM3D (alongside the HD "remakes", like Wind Waker HD) are no comparison. It looks and feels like you're playing the same game. I KNOW that they couldn't get by pulling the same kind of remastering to the first three generations' Pokemon games, but they still are a perfect example of actual remakes.

I, mean, seriously... Majora's Mask 3D looks kind of ugly. OOT and MM looked beautiful by N64 standards, but by today's standards, they don't stand up... At least not when being released as a 'remake'.

Graphics shouldn't effect the games quality (Nintendo's made that clear) and plus it's being released on 3DS, they can only do so much with the graphics there, and instead of complaining about how it lacks in looks you should be grateful we're getting a remake at all.

I hope you don't mind if I use this topic to ask a question.

I never played N64... I grew up with the Playstation and didn't even know Nintendo had consoles (that's how oblivious I was to stuff around me).

I've played Zelda: OoT and I most say I enjoy it alot :D I consider it a very good game, and I can see how others love it so much.

I'm a bit suspicious about Majora's Mask. Since it has the 3 day mechanic and I don't know how it works... I don't do very well under pressure or when I'm timed. I start freaking out and I keep failing time and time again because of it.

Anyway, what I'm asking is: Should I get it?

My fav. Zelda games are Minish Cap, Skyward Sword and Phantom Hourglass... Should I waste 50-60€ (62-75$) on it?

I am really not sure if I'll waste the money completely, or gain a fantastic game that I'll enjoy :/

If you liked OoT, you will enjoy Majora's Mask. The 3 day mechanic is set so that it can always be rest, so, say if you do everything you need to do to get into a dungeon yet don't have enough time to complete it, even if you reset the days you'll still have everything you need to go right back to it. So it's not really that bad. ;)

It is coming out pretty much everywhere... I only marked it that way because I think there's a few different trailers/footage collections from various regional Directs is all. :P

I have it already planned to buy Majora's Mask when it comes out, or soon after that, so...

But thanks a lot 8D

If you could, I'd recomend playing Ocarina of Time before playing Majora's Mask since the latter is a sequel. But if you plan on only getting one, it could depend. Want a creepy experience like no other Zelda: Majora's Mask is for you; Want probably the best and most classic of all Zeldas: Ocarina of Time; Want the latest Zelda experience, based on one of the best ones: Link between Worlds.

Thanks for your reply, i'll go with Ocarina of Time for now as Majora's Mask won't come out until next Spring. I'll have plenty of time to play through it. I'll have a look at Link between worlds.

Majora's Mask.... so few games made me so determined to finish. It didn't felt like I was playing a game, but more like trying to save a world. I felt connected and sympathized the characters, I felt the need to lent a hand, to make them feel not everything is over, but it would all be in vain, unless I get rid of that damn moon.

FUCK YEAH, AIN'T GONNA MISS THIS ONE  B)

When it comes to a 'remake', I can and will be judgmental of graphics. They're about all that are there to set it apart from the 14 year old game that I already own, and could easily own on the newest consoles if I wanted, without paying $40.

And, no, I don't need to be "grateful". Majora's Mask 3D is not a gift given to me. It is a product.

I wasn't implying that MM3D is a "gift", I meant that you/we should be happy that Nintendo decided to put the time, money, and work into doing this, if you don't like it, then don't get it. Now can we stop arguing about this?

I brought up that Majora's Mask isn't a gift, but instead a product because in order to gain access to it, I have to pay for it. Therefore, quite simply, I fully have the right to be picky about it. Nintendo did not make the game as a gift for their consumers, they made it for money.

I don't have to be 'grateful' for anything a company does for profit. Especially when I know that they could have done so much better.

Indeed, I won't get it. But that doesn't mean I don't get to have an opinion and state it... You're the one who responded to my post and turned this into an "argument", BTW.

Except that on this occasion in particular it's more than just Nintendo simply rehashing a game because they felt like it, this game has been in huge demand by the fans for several years now and THAT is why they've chosen to bring it to a new platform.

Nintendo are doing this because people showed that there was a great demand for this game to be remade after OoT was and Nintendo have responded by acknowledging the request and showing people that they do in fact pay a great deal of attention to the voices of their consumers. This Is perhaps the only time I would ever argue that you don't really have a right to be picky, especially if it's not something that you ever asked for, because virtually everyone else did and we're all happy that Nintendo have listened to us and given us what we want.

I think that's all that really needs to be said, I'm not saying you can't feel dissatisfied with what they are doing, but rather that you shouldn't bash the company for performing fan-service that's tailored specifically for the fans because of what WE asked for.
