general media What is your general opinion about gore?

If we are talking about blood and gore in a video game or movie then I CAN be ok with it. If it is over the top and distracting, then I don't like it.

If we are talking about actual pictures of dead bodies that get posted around the internet - I have a lot to say about that but let's just leave it at: I do not approve.

Ehhh... I am not the biggest fan on gore although I have seen a lot of anime with very gory dark themes to them such as Elfen Lied & Attack on Titan. Although I watch mainly for the story honestly which both have great stories.

Gaming wise I am not the biggest fan on pure gore bath games. The GTA series I was never really into I liked the sandbox environment alot. Halo and stuff like that are amazing games but the action in those are not very gorey.

But gore does not make a game good its the gameplay.

I don't mind it honestly but games like gta where you can just slaughter anyone for no reason is kind of disturbing to me and I have never been into horror movies with a lot of gore in them either.

I can handle animated gore but I don't like it so I won't play overly violent games, First Person Shooters for example. But if a live action TV show or movie with gore comes one I'll probably leave the room, real gore makes me nauseous.

[member=Monsieur Noel]: Since this topic pertains to gore in various media, such as video games, movies, tv shows and comics, I'm moving this to the Media Discussion section.  In the future, please make sure you're posting in the proper section of the Forum.

As a horror fan I don't really mind it, but I think there is an overabundance of it and the cheap thought process that it's a substitute for real horror is both irritating and comes off as lazy to me.

In non-horror there should either be a good reason for it story-wise, or if not, only be utilized in a satirical matter or else it just feels like a lackluster attempt to be 'edgy'.

Though, I can certainly understand why others would be bothered by it in general-believe it or not, I used to be terrified of blood as a kid.

Don't mind it.  I love God of War.  And I'll watch any movie.  I'm not squeamish, but certain over-the-top things can make me feel...slightly sick and disturbed sometimes.  Like the damn vampire scene in Hostel Part II.  I did not enjoy that.  But, you know, I have absolutely no problem with the existence of extreme gore.  Claims that violent games corrupt kids and turn them into violent criminals are ridiculous.

I don't really mind it too much. If it starts to get unreasonable or what have you I'll just meh out of it. Love the Doom games and grew up playing Doom 2 but it's also a big part of the tone on that. But if there's no rhyme or reason for it I'm just not a fan at all

After watching the Walking Dead, I'm used to a lot severe gore. I don't mind it, sometimes it adds to the realism of the TV show or video game. Stuff like blood and bones don't bother me either, it's just the human body.

I'm not that into it. There are times in some video games where i don't mind the gore, in others not so much.

When it comes to the movies then i'm not a fan of it, for me it would feel too realistic and true to life than a video game.

If it's appropriate and fits the atmosphere than fine. But if it doesn't, or is just overblown and completely there just for 'shock value', than i think it just degrades the content.  :maud:

Honestly, i don't are much to see gore -- i rather not, however, if it fits the context of the media, than i won't complain.  :maud:

As a Fan of Game of Thrones, Attack on Titan, and countless horror and action movies, I think that gore is fine as long as it's tasteful and not excessive. It's a different story when it comes to anime or Quentin Tarantino, where the violence is meant to be silly and over the top.

I love it! I love both serious gore and over the top gore. But there has to be reason for both. Either a story-wise reason (IE, Raiden extracting self-repair units from inside enemy cyborgs in Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance), it's done for the sake of comedy (MadWorld. Just... MadWorld) or the story is ment to be adult oriented (Like most violent works of fiction).

I'm perfectly fine with blood and gore in video games as long as it's not overused to the point where just one hit would splatter 3 tons of blood. Or if there's blood and gore in the real world, because I would be highly disturbed like every other sane person on the planet.

It's nothing to me. I've seen a lot of gore in games and stuff, but I understand the people that don't like it.
My best friend utterly hates blood and gore, blood makes him super queasy and stuff.

I once got a big cut and he saw it and his face went pale and he looked like he was going to pass out.

Personally gore adds to the amount of the story (If it is a story) and helps you to see maybe the catastrophic damage of war.
