What do you think about Cupcakes?

So.. As you may know.. Cupcakes is a popular video on YouTube about Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie making Cupcakes and.. well if you haven't seen it then.. I don't want to spoil it. and if you HAVE saw it, then what do you think about it? I think it's... um.. really.. well.. there's no words o-o

 

Yeah anyways, What do you think of Cupcakes?

Cupcakes has honestly become old news. Actually the videos were not the origin of it. There was a fan fiction written for it which is the original 'Cupcakes'. There's the original version with spelling errors and all, then the error free version with the Applebloom ending removed. So yeah. there was spin off story called 'Rocket to Insanity' which feed off the 'Cupcakes' fan fic where the story was all a dream in Dash's mind and she goes insane because of it.

 

So yeah. There is allot of history behind it. In anycase, even with the videos it's still not really important anymore. Most have moved on by now though there are some who refuse to let it die.

I love grimdark stuff and I thought Cupcakes was a lot of fun, though I think cupcakes really doesn't compare when stood against other grimdarks like "The Secret Life of Rarity"(I found this one way more disturbing than any other grimdark as well as very well written imo). I know this is about the video more, but the video is a very short representation of the fanfic.

Full of plot holes, such as:

 

1. How does an ungulate hold a scalpel with enough precision to skin someone alive?
2. How does one go about incorporating horse meat into cupcakes without anyone noticing the taste and texture?
3. Why haven't the Cakes noticed Pinkie turning their basement into a torture dungeon?

Overall, it's a poorly written story that only has shock value going for it.

Cupcakes are really delicious, but whenever I try to make them, they're not even nearly as good as others make them. Do they have some sort of special ingredient that makes it taste so much better?

 

Anyway, now on topic, or was I before already? I didn't think much about it. Watched it and was like "Meh, seen worse" I mean there's been certain cartoons worse than the cupcakes video itself, with a lot of animals and lots of...well, death in a silly way. I did like the HD version though because of the song in the background.

I will give a credit for encouraging me to watch MLP, but that was because I didn't understand the characters at first.

Oh, as for the fic of the same name which exists, btw - no. I can kind of guess what happened based on the what people who've read it say. I don't enjoy those types of stories too much.

I thought Cupcakes and all video incarnations were funny, as I've seen and read far worse -- Sweet Apple Massacre comes to mind.

 

But like others have stated, Cupcakes is pretty old hat.

The Secret Life of Rarity interwove itself so beautifully around Season one's storyline that I had to wait until they offed a character I know wasn't dead to break the two up in my head. Even then, between the utterly believable back story, and the story's two equally well done sequels, it took me three days to get the idea that Rarity wasn't a serial killer out of my head. 10/10 grimdark

 

Cheerilee's Garden had psychological elements(a mental breakdown) that made it way too believable. Top it off with extremely brutal and sadistic torture scenes(most of them involving ponies very much in character as they're being murdered), and an ending that damn near made me cry. I couldn't look at Cheerilee afterwards for two days. 9/10 grimdark

 

Cupcakes is OOC Pinkie Pie murdering OOC Rainbow Dash. It's tasteless, excessive even by its own standards, full of logical flaws, and so predictable I ended up skimming the story after the first couple paragraphs, correctly guessing everything that was going to happen. Terrible, 2/10 grimdark. I reccomend to anybody reading Cupcakes that they look at something exciting instead.

For me Cupcakes, as for the fic, was a ok read, but not that good either, it didn't really shock me because usually, I'm not that offended with described gore. For the videos (Cupcakes HD, fan aminations, etc...) I felt the same because cartoon gore is something that I got over with myself because I watched Happy Tree Friends and Itchy and Scratchy in the Simpsons and It did gave me experience with cartoon gore

I'm not really a big fan of shock videos, but Cupcakes didn't disturb me TOO much. I would never want to watch it again...but it wasn't as bad as some others people have told me to watch or read...

Basically it's no "Dipper goes Taco Bell"

The video? Eh, it has Happy Tree Friend style gore which really isn't my thing.   But it's the song that ultimately makes it catchy. The juxtaposition of the upbeat tune with such brutal lyrics is quite intriguing. I've often wondered about one thing though. Is it just a coincidence or did Andrew WK become a Brony in part because they used his song?

When I first saw it, I was shocked that someone would actually make a video like that; but now I find it interesting.

It sucks.

 

Rather than trying to be dark or interesting, it divebombs into a swimming pool filled with blood like a small child trying to impress their Dark Lord parents. There is no subtle psychological mind-screw followed by tormenting and breaking the victim, not that such things would be enjoyable happening to somepony like Rainbow Dash. Instead of trying to be good, trying to scare the audience, or even trying to build up tension or suspense, it jumps straight into the "She's already dead, let's watch the death scene" part. Only the entire fic IS the death scene. It rolls around in gore like a small dog rolling in mud, who then looks to his master for approval. It is no more impressive than any moron who thinks writing about or drawing murdered ponies will make them cooler.

 

Cupcakes sucks, to put it bluntly.
