War and Ponies

So I was wondering what fellow bronies thought of an episode perhaps containing an actual war in MLP:FIM, but tactfully done to still be presentable to the younger demographic.

 

As an example, a while back I wrote a fanfic of an invasion on equestria by this mysterious pegasus who commanded an army of shadow ponies. These shadow ponies would be dispersed by hits, sword swings etc. and they would attack by blinding ponies with shadows, trying to take over their minds, some sort of knockout gas, or even with headbutts, kicks, etc. The Mysterious pegasus's goal was to dominate the minds of equestria and shroud it in eternal darkness. So no deaths really resulted in this fanfic, but there was still a large war with armies of ponies charging at the shadow ponies.

 

So thoughts on an episode involving a large scale pony war? or how an episode could be done? Share your thoughts.

Clearly that'd never happen-- since the show's a slice of life comedy and all-- but I think a pony war would be cool. It'd be best done in the past, though, since everything bad has happened in the past. It's a general assumption of the fanfic-writers that the ponies and griffons had a big war; if something like that was done it'd be cool. What would be better, though, is having a story about another villain-- like Sombra-- who had an army and the sisters crushed them under their royal boots. I'd pay to see that.

Haha yes, I love it. How come most war pics of Fluttershy involve her being a sniper? XD

 

They could do a reboot of Sombra. I mean they never really went into detail about his story. Maybe an episode dedicated to learning about Sombra's history because it somehow ties into the present? XD

Sweet Celestia, this must be the 3rd war in MLP topic I've seen in the past few months.

 

No, it will be stupid because this show refuses to show real violence outside of some one v one fights. Plus it's a completely random thing to put in a show about friendship. It worked kind of in that one episode with the buffalo but was ruined by how silly it was (pies? Really?). It will never happen and if they do it will probably just come off as brony pandering (brondering?) and really try hard. Save it for fimfiction please

Also need I mention the whole changeling invasion. That was pretty close to a war.

If some kind of invasion happened in a finale, it could probably be pulled off, just without guns and ammo or anything. I imagine something akin to the changeling invasion, but instead of just the mane six fighting them off, it's everyone. However, it also wasn't gorey or anything, and amounted more to cartoon violence. If a war of sorts happens in the series, I picture something like that. It can have some decent action, and unicorn and alicorn magic can add considerably to the visual side of things, but I don't think it should go too far beyond what we've seen so far.

That would just be a loss for the show, nobody would watch it, plus the show is mostly SOL with a little adventure in it. But i'll leave a pic as well for the fun of it.

Rosemary, that is very presumptuous to state that no one would watch it. Didn't people watch the changeling invasion? I think a war episode would be done like that, and If I might add I think those 2 episodes were handled fairly well. Plus if season 5 is anything to say, Adventure will become a lot more important and SOL might be left behind or just not as prevalent in the plot as much. With that said, I love the picture : D

 

One last add in. I always thought the battles would be more oriented all swords and bows and stuff, less guns and tanks. More Medieval combat despite all the High-techy stuff. I mean the Royal Guards still wear armor, I can understand if its ceremonial, but surely a uniform not made of metal could have been made.

I think they can pull it off easily, they already did a 1 on 1 destructive battle at the end of Season 4, so I think they can make a couple armies go against each other. 

 

Knowing Hasbro, they might rig it in such a way where the Mane 6 will stop the armies from clashing at the last minute. Or they probably won't show little to none of what happens when an engagement occurs.

Maybe in these times, children are too coddled for such things. In the past, children were spared nothing of war and tragedy.

 

As for a war of some kind, it can be done if an enemy tried to infiltrate Equestria like the Changelings again. It wouldn't be huge or vast in scale of course but there could be sustained conflict in a two part episode.

I don't think it would fit well in MLP. I know they had some violence oriented stuff in the past (changelings, Tirek), but if you think about it, there was very little screen time devoted to actual fighting. I think that a full scale war would feel very out of place in this show. I dont think the show really needs something like that. That's heading into shark jumping territory for a primarily slice of life show.

I have no problem with the possibility of war being used to up the stakes or maybe there being a war mentioned as part of the history of Equestria, but a legit war story arc or episode would just be silly and really out of place.

I don't think it would fit in very well. I would however like to see it done and I believe it could be done and with enough effort it could even be made to fit into the mlp universe we know and love. Only time will tell what the future holds.
