music Cover Songs That are Better Than The Original

This is probably the best cover done of a song ever: Quiet Riot - Cum On Feel The Noize (Originally performed by Slade)

This is a close second: Manfred Mann - Blinded By The Light (Originally performed by Bruce Springsteen)

Chilly- For Your Love

The Yarbirds did the original in the 60s, but in my opinion Chillys Disco-Rock cover from the 70s sounded way better and had far more energy

Michael Viners Incredible Bongo Band- Apache

The Shadows did the original, it was ok but the cover by MVIBB sounded more spacey, and I think the bongos and brass and additional instruments and arrangement took the song to a whole new level

For those who even know the above song, it's unlikely they even know it's a cover. It was originally performed by a (soul/r&b?) artist called Brenda Holloway. I feel kind of bad for her, knowing how much this cover overshadowed her, but BS&T did such a great job.

I prefer Gary Jules' cover of Tears for Fears' Mad World.

Cake's "I Will Survive" cover is better, too, IMO.

Came into this thread with these songs in mind. They really are fantastic covers. Especially Mad World; that song's lyrics just demand it be sung slowly over a piano rather than over some 80s synthpop beat.

Here comes what will likely be a very unpopular opinion. I actually prefer Korn's version of "One" over Metallica's. Jonathan Davis' vocals just fit the song perfectly, and I love Fieldy's bass line. Additionally, I feel that the original runs on too long. Korn's version ends on the perfect note.
