What made you a brony?

I was bored and had already seen everything On Demand, and I came across it and remembered Bronies exist. So I thought to myself, "It can't be that bad if so many people like it," and tried it out. I liked it, and would watch it every now and again, and eventually it made it to my top priorities list for when I watch TV.

Now I'm here.

I sat in on an episode that my little sister was watching over the summer (involving the Cutie Mark Crusaders and a sabotaged float - haven't got there yet). To my surprise, I found myself enjoying the blend of lampshading humour and entertaining characters - took me a while to air down and watch the show for myself, but it's been on my to-watch least for wrote a long time. I've been side-tracked by FiMFiction, so I'm still only on Season 1 :P

After reading about how guys like it and that the show has good morals, I decided to give it a try. I originally wanted to make fun of it but then I thought "How can I make fun of a show I've never watched?" It felt weird watching the first few episodes but then after realizing what the morals were, how good the characters were, and "Dear Princess Celestia ending scenes", I ended up watching all the episodes. I honestly didn't expect to take this far.

All my life needed was a sense of someplace to go. I don't believe that one should devote his life to morbid self-attention. I believe that someone should become a person like other people.

It played nearly everywhere I went be it the grocery store, someone's house, etc, so I got little few second peeks at it without learning much about it. The animation style was really appealing to me when I got those glimpses of it, so one night I just got so bored and said why not a, if I can be obsessed with TLK then this couldn't be absolutely revolting I thought, and well yea, just turned into a new obsession :squee:

My friend got me turned on to watching My Little Pony, and I started watching midway into Season 1. I then started watching the remainder of Season 1 and I continue watching it. I love the show, it's changed my life for the better and I love the community of bronies as a whole. It's nice to be a part of a community of people who all can relate to the characters, enjoy the show, love the songs, and can just be themselves even if others judge and mock.

What made me a brony? The entire brony fandom, and the fact that said fandom is being demonized.

I've always been a fan of FiM since it originally premiered, but for a long time, I never considered myself a brony. I was happy to just watch the episodes and hardly anything more then that. I didn't want to label myself as a brony for fear of making myself a target. I didn't want people to call me gay, a fag, a manchild, didn't want anyone to try and attack me or come after me, or anything like that.

Then, while watching the first Brony documentary for the 2nd or 3rd time, and after hearing reports about bronies of all ages being picked on to the point of being hospitalized, I realized something... Everything that I was afraid of, it was all ready happening to the mass of fans that dared to proudly proclaim they are bronies. They were getting harassed, bullied, and demonized for doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG.

And that's what made me decide to embrace being a brony. TV shows come and go, and maybe FiM won't last forever. But if you're being unreasonably prejudice or hateful towards a harmless group or set of people, then I'm not cool with that, and I'm going to defend them every time.

When it's true, friendship isn't just magic. It'll save the universe.

What got me started was watching the Death Battle episode between Starscream and Rainbow Dash. Some events unfolded leading me to becoming a big fan.

I was listening to The Offspring and then I watched this

Granted then I wasn't really interested in MLP stuff, but then eventually I listened to 20 Percent Cooler, without knowing it was about MLP, and after watching a series of BronyDanceParty's PMVs, I finally decided to watch the show.

Someone on this forum once said, "I knew bronies were weird, so I had to watch the show to see if they were my breed of weird." I don't remember who it was, and I probably botched that quote a little, but that was the exact mindset that I had at the time.

As it so happened, I found that yes, bronies are my breed of weird.

Honestly, I found out about the show largely through a parody of MLP: FiM called My Little Team Fortress. Its actually quite popular spinoff series of its own. One thing led to another and ultimately my brother and I 1 day at my cousin's house decided to watch the pilot episode to see what was going on. He didn't become a brony not understanding it and I actually wasn't wholly impressed, but eventually I watched several more episodes and was actually impressed by the themes and characters shown in the show, enough that I decided to follow it.

I must get back to watching My Little Team Fortress one of these days.

This video right here..

When I seen this video, my initial reaction was confusion. Then I kept re-watching it until I finally decided to search for other things about the show. Then I found Pinkie's breakdown in Party of One and decided to give the show a shot since I couldn't believe something like that was in a kids show.

Oh, how that was a glorious decision on my part.

I ended up trying the show after knowing about the internet community as well as friends who had seen the show and one day decided to try it on netflix when I was looking for something.  Who knew what I thought would be some seemingly ridiculous and masculinity assaulting choice would end up becoming one of my favorite shows I have ever watched.  I don't understand what it was about the show that made it so appealing but it just was and many episodes later, here I am.

From playing on a TF2 Brony server. I had heard about MLP prior to this and actually knew someone who was a brony, but never gave it much thought till I played on the server. I played for a while, seeing the pony related sprays and the music that could be played on the map untill I said "I'm going to check this out."

And the rest is ponies.

Read Fallout: Equestria (Fallout is one of my favorite video game franchises) after i found my way to it through a friend. It made me curious about the show, and the rest is history.

Vinyl Scratch. Music. The fandom itself.

Oh, and this video:

I watched this video out of curiosity... one thing led to the next... and here I am.

I was introduced to it through a Runescape Private Server by the name of RS2006, and there was a clan called The Brony Alliance, and I was curious, saw the first 2....then the first season....and wanted more by Lesson Zero :P (I'm a sucker for cute stuff and happy things). It took a week for me to tell someone that I liked it, and a couple months to be completely open to the idea of being a brony.

@Tjb2000:  We already have a topic to discuss how and why you became a brony, so I'm going to lock this topic.  If you'd like to add your experience to it, the topic is here:  http://mlpforums.com/topic/118-how-and-when-did-you-become-a-brony/?hl=brony

Also, in the future, please remember that The Everfree Forrest is for non Brony and Pony related topics.
