technology Mechanical Keyboard Discussion Thread

This is a place to discuss various mechanical keyboard related topics. Like switches and different keyboards and even the ones you are using right now!~ I'm personally using a Razer  Blackwidow tournament editon. (It was on sale so no razer hate) Which uses Kahil Green switches (cherry blue knock offs) and I am loving it as it is my first mechanical keyboard. (I probably have 0 taste) But it was only 60$ bucks so it was a steal. Worth every penny in my opinion.

I have the exact same keyboard, I got it as a birthday present and I absolutely love it, the feel of it is great and I love the clicking. It gives a certain satisfaction and has actually improved my typing speed. Personally I think Razer can make good products, it is just certain peripherals such as their headset which are absolute junk, their keyboards have a good rep though.

Edit: My Keyboard use the classic Razer blue switches

Right now I'm using the "As Seen on TV" EZ EYES keyboard. It really is good if you have poor eyesight, and tend to need looks at the keyboard while you type! I have very bad eyesight, and I LOVE this keyboard! It may not suit a gamer, but since my computer world revolves around text, it's perfect for me. Oh, and just because it says you can, I'm not dumping water on it!

Logitech G710+ here.

Awesome keyboard. Very silent keys (compared to other keyboards). And they feel great too. I don't like those switches that don't add any resistance to your push. AND IT HAS 18 MACROS THAT I CAN USE!

The only thing about it is that the spacebar sometimes gets stuck because I don't press exactly in the middle. But I bet that it's something dirt related, so if I clean my keyboard it should be fixed.

I won't be a complete brony until I get a Thunderlane plushie and go to a convention.

I'm using the Corsair k70 with cherry red key switches, I'm never going back to membrane keys :P . I don't think the Razer keys are cherry knock offs Razer just chooses to use there own switches because of the lack of cherry switches.

They are completely knock offs. Although being cheap was not the only reason. One of the reasons is that they wanted to differentiate themselves from other keyboard brands. But cherrys patent expired so anyone can make similar or even the exact same switches. (And there was a cherry mx shortage) so that may also be a reason.

The Razers use rebranded Kailh switches. The only issue is that unlike most other keyboards using them, they kept the price at the same level as when they were using Cherry switches. I have a ThermalTake Poseidon Z based on the Kailh "Blue" type switches and to be honest, for $70 and backlit, it's a nice keyboard. A little heavier on the key actuation than a comparable Cherry board, but still nice. Tt also cut the price a little and raised the warranty to five years, neither of which Razer did.

I'd definitely recommend one of the Kailh boards over those overpriced 'gaming' rubber domes any day of the week.

It's just so pretty, I love collecting old computer stuff like that, used to have an old Macintosh from the 80's, dang I wish my mom never got rid of it. Though I probably would never use a keyboard like that, I enjoy my modern stuff for what I do.

Heh - my dad used to bring old computers home all the time - this was the keyboard learnt to type on when I was six. We still have a bunch sitting round - heck - I've got the next model up sitting on the lounge next to me. It's in need of a good clean though, and I prefer the feel of this one anyway.

Corsair Vengeance K70 Gunmetal with Cherry Red keys here, got it for the Christmas and I'm loving it over my old one so far, much more comfortable on the wrists since my old one didn't have a very good pad. The keys are highly responsive and I love the audible clicking, sounds like an old typewriter. :P Plus it's highly customizable and user friendly. A bit on the pricey side for a keyboard I will say, but well worth it if your looking for a good gaming accessory and have the cash to spare. Goes well with the M65 mouse too. Overall a very good first experience of a mechanical keyboard for me.
