gaming (Skyrim) Why Do You Support the Empire or Stormcloaks

Snow Frostflame

Recommended Posts

plain and simple there is a civil war in Skyrim between the Imperial Army and Stormcloak Rebellion

we all have different reasons for fighting for the Empire or Stormcloaks

who do you support?... and why do you support them?

as for me I support the Stormcloaks because Ulfric Stormcloak is the true High King of Skyrim... many say he murdered King Troygg in cold blood but he challenged the king in fair combat and won, only to be seen as a murderer and traitor to Skyrim.... not to mention the Empire finds it illegal to worship Talos, and the Thalmor punish those severely who do... there are many other reasons I support them as well but I will leave it to this I want to see your reasons

ok this is a tough one for me, I guess I would have to say the Stormcloaks, mostly because the Empire is siding with there one true enemy..the Thalmor, and allowing them to kill and destroy the lives of their citizens simply because they choose to worship Talos!

but on the other hand Ulfric is kinda a racist against the dark elves and the argonians! he won't even allow them into the city for petes sake!

so I don't know, for me it really is a hard choice

I don't like either side.  The Empire seems more professional and impartial at times, but they're puppets of the Aldmeri Dominion, who I hate.  The Empire also tried to chop off my head at the beginning of the game, so f*ck them.  But the Stormcloaks are racist pricks.  They're also power hungry.  I sided with Ulfric because I backed the cause to worship Talos, and felt that it was the lesser of two evils, but I only fought the war long enough to buy Hejerim.  After that, I walked straight up to Ulfric, gave him back all of the equipment he'd given me, and told him where he could stick his war.  I left the Liberation of Skyrim quest open.  Only thing I never finished.  Well, I actually rushed through it just to see what happens, but didn't save.  I really get into the role playing aspect, so if I don't feel ethically right, I won't do it.  I still feel really bad about having to kill the Whiterun guards.  They weren't really imperials.  They were good men.  They didn't deserve to die.  I feel terrible about overthrowing Balgruuf the Greater, too.  I thought he was a better Jarl than than Geezer McGraymane.  I tried to apologize to Balgruuf in the Blue Palace, but he wouldn't hear it.

Also, your text color is bright as hell and hurts my eyes when I have to read it against the white background.

apologies... the MLP Forums doesn't recognize my HTML color code so Cyan is as close as I can get... I'm trying to fix it because you aren't the first to complain about it

Imperials, all way long.

At the end of the day, it was Ulfric who caused this war, and the war itself is a threat to consistency of the Empire. Empire which lasted hundreds of years already. He's the one responsible for any death that happens in Skyrim during that war, in his own homeland.

In my eyes, he DID murder previous High King. Duel or not, he used the Thuum to shout him apart, as people remember. And if he uses the voice to gain power this way, he's just plain too dangerous to be left alone.

What's worth noting, is that it's not the Empire that banned the worship of Talos across Skyrim. It was Aldmeri Dominion who did it, as written in the Golden Concordate. The Empire itself had nothing against Talos, but was forced to obey the Dominion, otherwise it would be conquered and the Dominion would conquer Skyrim as well with time, the results would be the same or even worse.

I doubt that the Empire will tolerate the Dominion like that. It's really hard to say that the Empire and Dominion are allies. They're still sworn enemies, but they've signed a TRUCE. And that truce dictated that Talos cannot be worshiped. If they did not try and force this law through, the Dominion would just eat them whole.

I'd generally go with Empire if I had to choose, but I don't ever recall going to either side.

Thing is, when you go to Windhelm you meet a lot of Nords and you can get a good taste of their Xenophobia. I just can't stand stuff like that at all, and the Stormcloaks generally support an all-Nord Skyrim that is ruled by the Nords while the Empire is much less horribly racist, kinda :please:

I don't care who killed the high king. I don't care who the land belongs to. I don't care about any of that nonsense.

I just don't like racism, so therefore if I had to choose I'd go Imperial if only because I'm not going to support that thing.

Albeit, I play Altmer in Skyrim, and realistically there'd be no chance of an Altmer joining the Stormcloaks due to the Thalmor :please: I know it'd be possible in game, but it makes so little sense to me that it'd just feel awkward.

On my first character I joined the stormcloaks (I was a nord) but I tend to choose based on my characters race, most of my characters either are not yet on a side or are with the empire since they are not Nords, I mean the stormcloaks are pretty racist to anyone who isn't a nord xD

I went with the empire. You know how you get sort of in character when playing these sorts of games? Well, I had a dark elf for a character and didn't much like the way they were treated in Whiterun under Ulfric. No way was I gonna fight for a side that treats me with such disdain.

I went with the Empire as I had no sympathy for the Stormcloaks. While I did have sympathy for the citizens who had their right to worship who they saw fit stripped away from them, I didn't care for the cult of personality that surrounded Ulfric. Not to mention that there were questions of racism that pretty much made them seem like hypocrites.

In the end, while the Empire was in a much weakened state and was being controlled by the Dominion, I felt that siding with them was better because I felt they were the better option. They didn't want to stop Talos worship; they forced to out of survival. I don't blame them one bit for what they had to do.

In the end I believe that Empire can return to their glory, and in the end Tamriel will be better for it.

Me-thinks I would rather just end them both, put their puny skulls on pikes and take thee throne meself! *Cough* Uh, Sorry. My inner Daedra was speaking.

Anyway, if I would have to choose, I'll have to go with Empire. Yes, I disagree with the banning of the worship of Talos, and while the Stormcloaks bring great points and reasons, there's really just one thing not making me join them. Ulfric Stormcloak. Seriously, that's the only reason(Besides rasism, but I have a feeling only a few are like that). Dude is too power-hungry and eager for the throne for his own good. I'm telling ya, if he gets on the throne bad things are going to happen. Sure, while he cares for the nords and the like, he loves power more. Well, atleast in my eyes. So, imperials take over and ban a religion while protecting the place and enforcing new laws and havering an emperor, or let the power-hungry maniac Ulfric try to take the throne for hims-er, the nords. So, I'll have to go with the imperials. But if I could, I wouldn't let either take the throne, and put Paarthurnax on it or something. Actually, that's a terrible idea, scratch that. Well, guess I would take it myself, and while it's probably extremely difficult, try to be fair with everyone and everything. If that won't work, then screw it. I'll be an evil overlord and be worse than the daedras combined.

Personally, after my first two playthroughs I stopped picking a side altogether. I find the entire thing to be absolutely stupid. Quite why the Dominion disapprove of the worship of Talos, I'll never know. (Though I'm pretty sure that it has something to do with how a lowly Nord couldn't possible ascend to become divine, or some other racist bull)

So I've made my own little guild. Almost every character I've had so far has been a Dragon Priest. The dragons are borne of Akatosh, they are true children of the divines, but along the line they were corrupted, they lost their way. But Paarthurnax, Odahviing and several other dragons have forsaken their draconian urges of power and blood-lust (well, until I need them to kill something). Me and my characters believe that the other dragons can be brought about too. We believe that mortals and dragons can live together in a mutually beneficial society, if enough effort is put in by both sides.

Stormcloaks for sure because lets face it, the Imperials are just a 3rd party faction that are power hungry meanwhile the thalmor pull their strings and basically run the show. Besides the Stormcloaks are the true sons of skyrim.

I wanted to answer this one here, but it would be off-topic hard, so I'll throw it into a blog :P

Empire, because I don't like Balgruuf's disappointment with me when I go Stormcloak.

It's also worth mentioning that the ban on Talos worship was rarely enforced in Skyrim, prior to the Stormcloak rebellion, it's only since then that the Thalmor have been cracking down on it, if I remember correctly.

If I can remember correctly (I haven't played the game in like 2 years so this may be wrong), but Ulfric just wants to rule everything and uses the Talos cause as a gain for popularity with the natives of Skyrim. He doesn't really care for Talos worship to be restored, he just wants the agreement of the majority of Skyrim on his side to make the Imperials look like the bad guys.

I'd go with the Imperials.

I supported the Stormcloaks because they are fighting for their home land and their right to worship Talos a man who became the 9th divine , which is proven when you when you go to sovngarde and he is not there sitting on  A solid  gold throne . I don't hate or like the empire , they are just trying to avoid a war with the Thalmore   who could  probably wipe them out or severely  cripple them .  (Also they did not try to behead me.)
