Agender Option in Profiles

Personally, I think there should be an 'agender' option for the forums in a user's profile. I realize that people don't want a "long list" of genders but it's simply an extra option(s) (I believe genderfluid should be added as well).   

 

There's other genders on the list, but using female for myself feels awkward and using 'other' just sounds...kind of disgusting imo, it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I know there are other people here who are agender and it'd probably make them feel more comfortable here as well. 

 

It's just an idea, and sorry if this type of topic was already made (I did see the more gender options topic but everything was added except agender and genderfluid which sounded skipped over in exchange for the 'other' option). 

 

Both agender and genderfluid seem relatively popular so not adding them because it'd be a "long list" just sounds kind of odd to me.

I'm 100% for this idea.

 

I myself am Genderfluid,and using just 'Female' may cause confussion,while transgender isn't the right definition of what i am,so a genderfluid option (and an Agender one,like the OP said) would be nice additions to the list.

I also agree 100% with this idea. There are some people who just don't identify with a gender or people who identify with multiple genders. And the posts above me are right, transgender isn't the same thing. I don't see the harm in adding these two genders.

It would seem rather odd to me. I feel it might result in cases of, "if X gender gets it, why not Y?"

 

'Other', I imagine, is meant to signify as something else. I do agree that the usage of 'other' has multiple meanings in the sense that it doesn't just say "something else", but it might also, from a very certain viewpoint, denote something 'otherly', uncanny, strange, which can indeed lead to as you put it a bad taste. I think the best course of action, if most people feel this way, is to consider changing the wording of 'Other', but I don't think adding a fourth option is the right move.

I don't think we really need anything else other than what we have. Really you're either male or female, there is nothing else. But I do understand why trans options are there.

You're not either male or female, there are tons of different genders, maybe you shouldn't talk about something you know nothing about.

One thing is biological gender,and a completly different one is the gender that you feel related the most.

 

Also,one can be agender if he/she doesn't feel like any gender,of course,as one can be a girl while biologically being a boy and viceversa.

And another thing, @Drakkon's suggestion is alright for me. It would avoid future discussion about adding other genders,and it would solve the current problem.

 

I would personally be up for an editable function, where you can just type in your specific gender, it'd take care of everything. The only problem would be people who would abuse said feature and possibly the difficulty in making it possible in the first place. :s

From a past view point,it seems to be possible.

I remember that the Best Pony part of the profile used to have options,but now is a box which has a character limit and can be used to write any name.

 

If ir could be done there,it shouldn't be a bigger problem on the Gender box s:

I love this idea, I think that it could benefit from just having a box where you can fill out your gender instead of having certain choices (as mentioned previously)

Just to remind you peeps, We already have 7 options for selecting a gender so I don't think any more is really going to be a bad thing. Anyway, I've added the two suggested options and another two, Gender Queer and Androgyne.

I really, really don't see the point in adding a huge list of genders. I don't really get all of it, but that doesn't matter. The solution to this is to just make it a write-in text box so that people stop asking for new genders to be added, because even when new ones are added I still see a new thread popping up every few weeks asking for even more options.

 

Sure, this could lead to people putting silly answers, but that's fine with me. "Best Pony" is a write-in text box and I don't see people complaining about that. Plus I seem to see new "genders" pop up on the web all of the time, so a text box let's people put in whatever new idea they come up with as to their identity.

Seems a nice alternative to having 20 genders in one drop down list.

 

 

Guess a text box has potential for (Fairly harmless) abuse though, so I guess it may be easier to leave it as a list.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The ideal solution is to make the gender field a text box and be done with it. Everyone can write in what they're most comfortable with, everyone is happy, and really, what's the worst that could happen? Someone writes in their gender as "Kumquat"? That would hurt literally no one.

But now seriously, I am fine with agender option. It's not hurting anyone and if someone feels more comfortable with it present - I say go for it.

 

And to relate to Brechard's previously posted thing - biologically there are of course two genders only, but mentally people sometimes feel a bit different, so I can't say biology is a reason to deny this request

Facebook has a whitelisted option of genders that you must select from its autocomplete. I just tried to change my gender to "Banana" and it wouldn't let me. Should someone wish to be more specific with their gender that is not listed, contact us and we'll see what we can do.
