Who's the most underrated MLP character?

Apple Fritter is very underappreciated. She's the first Apple family member that Applejack introduces Twilight to, she helps out with not just one, but two Apple barn raisings, she's in Pinkie Pie's You Gotta Share, You Gotta Care song and dance routine, she helps plan Applejack's welcome back party in The Last Roundup, plus she's the one pony that Applejack chooses to help her with the catering at Cadence's wedding. And she's damn cute to boot.

Zecora. Gotta be Zecora. Even after everyone was a complete jerk to her, she was cool enough to forgive them. And then on multiple occasions, she played a part in saving the town. Who's to say Trixie wouldn't have grown powerful and corrupted enough from the amulet and kicked the princesses out of power, had Zecora not helped Twilight nip the problem when it was containable? I mean, I love Sun Booty with all my heart, but she sure as heck wouldn't have found out about the problem until it was too late. Zecora also helped Twilight have that trippy memory on Celestia, Luna, and Discord. Without that nobody would've figured out what was making the Everfree so messed up. She also does small things like help take away the effects of the poison joke (and give it back to Flutterguy), help apple Bloom with her cutie pox, and keep Spike's greed under control in an attempt to avoid another negative growth spurt.

 

Zecora is the most underrated character I know of, which is quite a shame. Girl needs some more love from the fandom.

I think that Spike would be the underrated character, if only he were better developed. As a dragon, there were so many opportunities for him to expand and be used Same with G1 Spike.

Gilda's definitely one. I honestly have more sympathy for her than I do for Trixie. Gilda had some attitude problems but she really valued her friendship with Dash. I want those two to make up at some point.

 

Celestia's another. I want to see more of her before giving Luna anymore screen-time.

I actually hate Gilda because of how she treated Pinkie Pie. I would have still hated her if Fluttershy wasn't in the episode. I hate Trixie, too. Fluttershy is my least favorite of the mane six, and I don't care if some pony makes her cry. She's overly sensitive!

Mane Six: Rarity.

 

Princess: Celestia. I'm a Luna fan, but I don't hate Princess Celestia. I did think she was a troll in The Ticket Master, but I understand that it was necessary to send her sister to the moon. She is a great pony. She needs more development, though.

 

Villain: King Sombra.

 

Side character: Granny Smith

I have to agree, even if you only have 2 lines, those can have a major impact.

I would like to see more love for Gilda, Lightning Dust, Suri Polomare, and Shining Armor, but my biggest pick is definitely Princess Celestia.

 

Cadance had two back-to-back two-parters with a Season finale and premiere respectively and "Three's A Crowd" with Discord and Twilight.

 

Luna had "Luna Eclipsed", then the CMC episodes she shared with "Sleepless in Ponyville", "For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils", and now "Bloom and Gloom".

 

In FIVE SEASONS and approaching one-hundred episodes, there has not been a single episode that really focused on her all that much.

 

And a majority of the hate stems from the show and comics themselves;

 

Then, there's the Trollestia thing because of a stupid prank she pulled one time to try and get everyone around her to lighten up a bit.

 

The Tyrantlestia belief because she had no choice, but to banish Nightmare Moon-something that clearly tore her up to do, if you pay attention to their reunion and the beginning of the series and the fact that she was crying when she had to use the Elements of Harmony against her own sister.

 

 

Then of course, there's her being selfish, incompetent, and hypocritical in an arc of one of the comics-making the same stupid and selfish decisions she claimed to have matured out of-which hasn't done her any favors to help make her more endearing to her haters.

I belive that King Sombra is the most underrated. And I know that because before I was Docor Whooves, I was King Sombra. And I was King Sombra because I am a very juged brony, being a teenager and all. So I figured that Sombra was the manlyest pony in the show. So thats who I became, and now I'm Doctor Whooves. Life is fun like that. But he really doesent have very many lines. He only has only gotten twonlines and I don't even know them both. But I know one. "CRYSTALS,CRYSTALS,CRYSTALS!!!!!" But thats it.Celestia and Luna Have gotten much more time. And so has Cadence.But I never realy liked Gilda, and besides, Why would she come back?

Celestia is extremely underrated.. I know it's not really her story and they wanna keep her powers from just being able to solve everything, but does that really have to reduce her to essentially butt-monkey status every time something serious goes on? It just feels like wasted potential..

 

Speaking of wasted potential: Sombra. Sure, some people say he's a cliche villain, which he was, but I think only because of the way he was written. As we seen in the comic, he has TONS of room for characterization. I think if they just found something a little more to do with him, he'd make a really good antagonist.

 

I agree with Cadence too.. just introduce the only other Alicorn in Equestria and promptly shove her to the sidelines with the other two, Twilight had better watch out, being an Alicorn just seems to mean having less relevance to everything.

It's easily Princess Twilight Sparkle, nobody seems to appreciate her as a character, on the show or in the fandom. I'm not even sure if she has any fans, she might not even have been Rule 34'd yet. Maybe she just needs a bit more screen time, maybe her own episode, I mean, it's been 4 seasons....

I think that Cloud Chaser doesn't get as much love as she should from the fandom. She's one of the few background ponies who have actually had lines. I also would like to see more of the Royal Guard. I think they have a lot of untapped potential as well. I also agree with the Princess Luna and Granny Smith answers. To be fair, though, with a universe as big as Equestria, the writers (and the fandom) have done a pretty good of utilizing characters and giving them cameos/lines.

Instead of naming characters that are "underrated" in the sense of being "over-hated" or "under-utilized" in regards to potential not being used... well, my opinion is that just saying "Celestia is underutilized, or "oh noes has too much of a hatedom" , she needs more love"... is not very original or interesting. Sure, some of us would like a whole episode or two-parter where she gets lots of dialogue and ... I dunno, gets some backstory giving her Dumbledore-like nuance (Even tho the comics already did this), but the show is centered on having Twilight and young ponies learn lessons from people in her own age group.

 

And mainly she is only underrated in the sense of apparently not being appreciated enough by some relative-ness, even tho she is usually one of the first ten characters that people think of if you ask them to name ten characters off the top of your head (Mane 6, Spike, and then usually the two royal sisters... but sometimes people will name the CMCs depending on the time of day).

 

Anyway, I like this rendition of the word "underrated" as in, characters that don't get recognized much. Princess Celestia gets recognized a lot in the show. She's in the opening theme.

 

Here's my underrated, under-recognized character: "Moooar ROOM for mah PUPEHHHHTS!" Claude, the puppeteer from Inspiration Manifestation. Apparently he didn't even have any physical description of what he looked like when he was first written, other than that the was a unicorn stallion. The design was made only after they heard the voice by Jay Brazeau.

Besides the main characters, I can think of a couple background/one-off characters who could use more development after getting hyped for one day.

• Cloudchaser was hyped and fell quickly out of favour by her sister, Flitter.
• Peewee deserves to come back after his controversial send-off in Season 3.
• Screw Loose definitely does deserve a couple lines on the show.
• Lightning Dust and a couple one-episode antagonists returning would also be pretty neat.

Big Mac,   one of the few stallions we see a LOT and used just a place holder most of times sadly.  I mean who runs the farm while AJ is away on magic stuff and helping to raise his little sister and help his granny?   Big Mac is the pony's name.  I think he needs some good or a few eps or parts to show all he does and stuff for his family and farm.
